Transmission (トランスミッション Toransumisshon?) is an Ultimate Move performed by Izuku Midoriya using the Gearshift Quirk.

Description[]

Izuku first uses this move against "Tomura Shigaraki" during the Final War. He rushes toward his opponent and delivers several punches, with each successive punch increasing the speed of Gearshift, before sending his opponent flying. The increase in speed is labelled as "gears", with the gears being:[1]

  • Low Gear (一速 (ロー) ?), the base speed that is activated upon using Transmission. This speed is demonstrated when Izuku uses Transmission on himself. It can also be used to slow down his own movements.[2]
  • Second Gear (ニ速 (セカンド) Sekando?), the second level of speed that is activated upon using Transmission. This speed is demonstrated when Izuku uses Gearshift on Katsuki to save All Might from All For One.[3]
  • Third Gear (三速 (サード) Sādo?)
  • Top Gear (四速 (トップ) Toppu?), the final and fastest speed.

Each punch of Transmission is so fast, the sound barrier is broken numerous times, causing the punch to be seen before it is heard.

In addition to himself, Izuku can also use Transmission on other things and people. During his initial fight with "Tomura", Izuku uses Low Gear to freeze the villain in place and thwart his attack.[2] When Katsuki joined the fight, Izuku used Second Gear on him, in combination with his own strength and Katsuki's Explosions, to launch him upwards and gain enough speed to save All Might from being killed by All For One.[3] Later, Izuku also applies Low Gear to Smokescreen to slow it down, keeping Tomura's Danger Sense constantly active as he summons Blackchains. This allowed him to catch Villain off-guard without being detected by Danger Sense.[4]

Trivia[]

  • The Ultimate Move is most likely a reference to the transmission used in a car, given that it lets the user shift between multiple gears, and the movement Izuku executes when shifting his own gears is similar to how a driver shifts gears while driving.
