Biological Family[]

Tenko's Twisted Past

Tomura painfully recalls the massacre of his family by his own hands.

Originally, Tomura felt great love for his deceased family and expressed heavy remorse for the accidental killing of them upon losing control of his Quirk. The severed hands that he wears all over himself are the only remnants of his lost loved ones. He claims that wearing them makes him feel sick, yet also keeps him calm.][1] Tenko was also initially amazed to learn that his grandmother was a Pro Hero.

After their demise by his own hands, Tenko was left alone and traumatised by the incident. Taking to the streets, he started to believe that no one turned to help him as punishment for killing his family. Eventually, the memories of his family faded away, with Tomura only experiencing flashbacks of them.

Eventually, Tomura remembers them fully from his fight with Re-Destro. He recalls the love he felt from his sister, mother, and grandparents. However, he also remembers the suffering he endured by his father simply for liking Heroes as a child. While Tomura loved his family, he recalls that none of them stepped in to stop his father from abusing him and would only do their best to console him. Because of this, Tomura believes that the house he grew up in masked rejection with kindness. This would lead to him developing a deep resentment towards both heroes and society.[2]

After his Quirk manifested, he unintentionally scared his family with his acts and slaughtered them while begging for help. When his father discovered his deed, Tomura begged him for help but the latter attacked him to get him to stop, Tomura's instincts caused him to kill him for the pain he caused. Despite the sadness that he holds at slaughtering them, he felt a slight relish in ending the pain he endured.[3] Overall, Tomura no longer feels any guilt about killing his family after getting his memory back and uses it to further fuel his hatred and desire to destroy society.[4] However, Tomura told his sister in his visions he holds no grudge against her for telling their father about the picture and assured his mother he was fine, even turning back into a child in front of her, proving that a part of Tomura still cares about his family.

During the meeting of the minds with his and Izuku Midoriya's, he met his paternal grandmother, Nana, for the first time. While he was initially surprised to see her, Tomura assured her that he hated her as well, regardless of the circumstances that brought them together.[5] This resentment towards Nana is likely out of her being indirectly responsible for his father's abuse towards him and his sister, as well as for being a Hero and thus contributing to the society he despises.

During the Final War, Tomura uses his memories of his family as an anchor to protect his "true self" when his will is being usurped by All For One, to the point that visages of his family's faces emerge onto his body after undergoing several transformations. After regaining full control of his body, he declares his hatred for the household he grew up in, with it being the very source of all his resentment and suffering. Even if a part of Tomura still cares for his family, he resolves that him and Tenko share the same goal of destroying everything connected to that house, saying that it will be the only thing that will grant him salvation.

However, within his mindscape with Izuku, the hero manages stops him from decaying his family; Tenko tries to convince himself that he killed his family by choice, because he believes if it wasn't by choice, that there was no explanation to why he was born that way.

League of Villains/Paranormal Liberation Front[]

Tomura is the leader of the League, following All For One's capture. While Tomura was initially very distant from the members of the League, mostly viewing them as disposable pawns, his feelings towards them evolved as he himself grew as a person. During the confrontation with Overhaul, Tomura becomes angry at Magne's death and Mr. Compress losing an arm. Due to Overhaul's actions, Tomura decides to trust Twice and Himiko in their infiltration of the Yakuza, even revealing his face to them. After taking down Overhaul, Tomura declares that it is the League's time to shine, as opposed to his previous statement which was only concerned with himself.

As time passes on, Tomura eventually grows closer to the League. When Spinner questions his leadership and direction, Tomura replies calmly and peacefully, as opposed to his first encounter with Himiko and Dabi, which was very violent. Although Tomura wants to destroy the whole of society, he also says multiple times that the League's wishes and desires are an exception to this goal. During the conflict with the Meta Liberation Army, Tomura declares angrily that he can't forgive the Meta Liberation Army for messing with Twice's feelings. Following the remembrance of his memories, Tomura declares that the only thing he wants is for the League to live how they see fit. After their victory over the Meta Liberation Army, the League is treated to lunch by Tomura, further showing the concern he now has for them. This is further shown upon Tomura awakening from his coma, the first thing he did upon was order Machia to "bring the others".

Later during his final battle against Izuku, part of Tomura's desire to destroy come from a desire to show Spinner the warped horizon he was looking forward to, showing the League is still at the forefront of his mind, despite claiming to have abandoned his humanity. Also when talking to Izuku within the vestige world, Tomura states that even if he his hated suddenly disappeared, even if he just became an empty husk, he'd still need to be a hero for the villains, envisioning the League as his inspiration.

All For One[]

Tomura and All For One

All For One reunites with Tomura.

All For One is Tomura's master and the one who saved Tomura in his childhood. He has also groomed Tomura to be his successor.[1][6] Ever since then, Tomura has looked up to All For One as a father figure. All For One is very committed to his role as Tomura's master, displaying great care despite being the Symbol of Evil. During the Kamino Incident, All For One tells Tomura that even though he failed, he needs to continue and try again while proclaiming that he is there to help Tomura succeed and that his actions are for Tomura.[7]

All For One is happy to see Tomura think for himself and begin to "carve his own path forward"[8] by having the Vanguard Action Squad capture Katsuki Bakugo. He decides to stop the Pro Heroes and Police Force from apprehending Tomura and his Squad. At the start of his battle with All Might, All For One activates Kurogiri's Quirk to give Tomura and his team a chance to escape with Katsuki. Tomura stalls and asks about what will his master do.[9] When the fight between All Might and himself intensifies, All For One forces Tomura and his Squad to leave. Tomura, worried about All For One's condition, calls out for him saying he is not ready but All For One is confident that Tomura will carry on the fight in his stead.[10]

Despite the appreciation and respect Tomura holds towards his master, he still rejects All For One's image of Tomura as his successor, refusing to heed his master's voice in his head, declaring that he will forge his own path to become something more than All For One.[11] However, as the fight continues and All For One seizes control of Tomura's body, he begins to resent his master for his interference and repeated attempts at stealing his body, even attempting to destroy the vestige of his master when they're in the mental mindscape. When All For One attacks Tartarus while possessing Tomura's body, he attempts to take back control of his body, demanding his master give him back control and declaring that he won't be used as a pawn.[12]

It is unknown if he knows or cares that All For One killed his grandmother, though given that Tomura openly expressed his hatred for Nana, it's likely that this would be irrelevant for him.[5]

As a result of the All For One Quirk melding together into Tomura's body, his personality became merged with All For One, meaning he no longer thought of All For One as a separate entity, but as part of himself. Despite this, Tomura still finds himself fighting for dominant control against the All For One side, including during his encounter with Star and Stripe[13] and the final battle against the Heroes.[14]

Some time after, All For One realized that while his merging with Tomura was indeed a success, it came with the drawback of his original aspect as Tenko Shimura creating a "fissure within" that actively resisted him. All For One never growing aware of this until his confrontation with the heroes at U.A. High School proved the self-serving nature of their relationship, and his attempts to keep Tomura under control against his will showed he doesn't actually care for the boy himself, and will use him like he uses anybody else to accomplish his goals.

During their time sharing the same body, Tomura becomes aware that All For One is just using him because of his connection to his grandmother to torment All Might and incited his hatred to hijack his body so they would merge together, while intending to use his hatred so that he would be able to steal One For All. Refusing to be his puppet, Tomura secretly kept his origin hidden deep within his heart and was able to take back control of his body little by little without All For One noticing. He mocks his former master that his plans didn't go as he intended, before he usurps full control back over his body. Ironically, All For One's plan to use Tomura's hatred to steal One For All would backfire and ultimately lead to All For One's downfall.

Once All For One finally disappears, Tomura senses his former master's death and blames himself for not being able to kill Katsuki. Despite being manipulated by him for years as well as his attempt to take over his body and mind, Tomura admits that he's still grateful to All For One for making him strong.[15]

Much later, Tomura started to waiver but the manifestation of All For One seized control again. All For One then reveals his ultimate orchestration of Tomura's life, he manipulated his father into having him, fueled the latter's resentment of heroes, and secretly helped Tomura as a child but stole his Quirk Factor before it manifested and bestowed upon him Decay. All For One revealed that he was indirectly responsible for Tomura's abusive childhood and views, to make him the perfect host. This showed he never cared for Tomura as a person but only a possession, as these revelations caused Tomura's soul to seemingly be destroyed. After gaining control of the body, All For One cruelly shut off Tomura's lingering presence by forming a hand over his mouth.[16]

Kurogiri[]

Tomura and Kurogiri

Kurogiri fighting alongside Tomura.

Kurogiri is loyal to Tomura as his care and development were entrusted to Kurogiri by All For One.[17] Tomura values Kurogiri, considering him to be important during the League of Villains's attack on the U.S.J. While Kurogiri generally follows Tomura's orders, he will go against Tomura's commands if he believes that Tomura is acting too hotheadedly. As in the case of Tomura's introduction to Dabi and Himiko Toga were an irritated Tomura tries to kill the latter two and Kurogiri stops him and reminds him that "if they are to act upon his desires, expanding the League is a necessity" and advises Tomura to accept Dabi and Himiko.[18] Kurogiri occasionally talks over Tomura for this same reason. Daruma Ujiko believes that Kurogiri babies Tomura.[19]

Tomura becomes slightly annoyed after Kurogiri's capture which consequently delays the locating of Doctor Ujiko. Around that time, Himiko Toga notes that Tomura seems to miss Kurogiri's company.[20]

Although Tomura values Kurogiri, he has called him a few names such as "idiot" which Kurogiri overlooks.[21]

Daruma Ujiko[]

Daruma Ujiko questions Tomura's worthiness

Daruma questions Tomura's worthiness as All For One's successor.

Tomura Shigaraki has known Daruma since being rescued by All For One, however they have had few interactions due to Daruma's cautious nature. Daruma gave Tomura his collection of hands, which belonged to the boy's slaughtered family.[1]

Tomura only receives criticism and reproaches from Daruma after being summoned from battle with Gigantomachia, due to his lack of achievements and progress since the fall of All For One. Daruma questions what it is that Tomura has to offer in exchange for his help. Tomura answers that he wants to destroy everything and that he can show the doctor heaven and hell. Daruma comments that Tomura's dreams are childish but likes his passion. Keeping to All For One's plans, Daruma agrees to help Tomura but stipulates that his full support will come after Tomura defeats Gigantomachia.[1]

Unlike Kurogiri, the doctor does not baby Tomura. He gives him and the League a one-time small allowance after their meeting to live off of.[22]

Once Tomura succeeds in taming Gigantomachia and gaining the support of the Meta Liberation Army, Daruma congratulates his achievements. Daruma also expressed a willingness to lend Tomura more power that was originally intended for All For One, in which the latter agreed for the offer.[23]

Gigantomachia[]

Gigantomachia finds the League of Villains

Gigantomachia finds the League of Villains.

At first, Tomura expresses delight when he meets Gigantomachia for the first time, realizing that he must be the “power” Kurogiri mentioned. However, his opinion changes after Gigantomachia challenges the League to battle. Gigantomachia erupts into an inconsolable rage from witnessing Tomura's weakness and realizing how much he does not equate to All For One even though he wants to accept Tomura as successor. After Daruma is able to soothe Gigantomachia, Tomura says that he doesn't want Gigantomachia.[1]

Tomura returns to fight Gigantomachia after his conversation with Daruma, declaring himself the future king. Gigantomachia is intrigued but after a month and half of fighting he still calls Tomura weak. Tomura, on the other hand, becomes more invigorated and steadfast in getting Gigantomachia to submit.[22]

During the conflict with the Meta Liberation Army, Gigantomachia tracked Tomura to resume the battle but instead witnessed Tomura’s fight with Re-Destro and was left in awe at his embrace of villainy and his true strength once he awakened.[4] Afterwards, he finally acknowledges Tomura after the latter not only defeats Re-Destro but destroys half of Deika City.[24]

Vanguard Action Squad[]

Dabi[]

Upon their first encounter, Dabi expresses disgust at the sight of Tomura's appearance. Tomura responds by calling Dabi an ill-mannered brat and requests that Kurogiri warp him and Himiko away. Coupled with Tomura's sullen state from Stain's popularity over the League's, Dabi's refusal to give answers to Tomura's questions, and Dabi's admiration of Stain ideology, Tomura tries to kill him along with Himiko. Dabi was prepared to attack however, Kurogiri stops the trio and Tomura storms off. Dabi summarizes the encounter as 'weird'.[18]

Despite the rough start, Dabi follows Tomura's commands. Tomura considers him and the rest of the Vanguard Action Squad as 'reliable comrades'.[25] Dabi is also one of the few members who tries to expand the League. Before setting off to continue fighting Gigantomachia, Dabi declines, reasoning he doesn't want to fight Gigantomachia and that he has a really good prospect waiting. Tomura allows this and insists Dabi bring along the new prospect.[1] Dabi appears to take cues from Tomura now, deciding to go all-out on the remaining M.L.A. soldiers after seeing Tomura do so.

Himiko Toga[]

Himiko and Tomura

Tomura protecting Himiko from Gran Torino.

During their first meeting, Tomura calls Himiko a freak due to her excited attitude as well as for her abnormal fanaticism for Stain. Giran comments that Himiko can be useful. However, unimpressed and in a bad mood, Tomura tries to attack her and Dabi but the three are stopped by Kurogiri. After Tomura's departure from the meeting, Himiko confesses that she thought she was going to die.[18]

When Tomura tells Kurogiri that it doesn't matter if the Vanguard Action Squad succeeds or fails and Kurogiri responds with describing the group as "disposable pawns" Tomura interrupts, saying that he sees Himiko and the other as reliable comrades with useful strengths.[25]

When Overhaul requests Himiko and Twice to take part in his plan, Tomura responds that they are his "cornerstones".[26] Upon hearing she has to work for Overhaul, Himiko playfully pulls a knife on Tomura while asking why she has to do things she doesn't want to. Tomura pulls off his hand revealing a calm and decided face. He tells her and Twice that they will help Overhaul for him, themselves and the rest of the League and that he believes in them. This talk results in Himiko and Twice creating the havoc that Overhaul tried to avoid.[27]

When Himiko was afraid that Tomura would destroy everything she loves, he assured her that his allies wishes would always have a place in his new world and would keep whatever they desired.

Twice[]

Twice was one of his subordinates that he valued and appreciated the most. At first there was little interaction between the two, but after the defeat and capture of All For One, Tomura began to relate to Jin Bubaigawa more, especially after his first encounter with the Shie Hassaikai, which ended with the death of Magne and with Mr. Compress losing an arm. Tomura never punished him for his screw up, in fact he even trusted him to destroy the Shie Hassaikai from within after handing him over to Overhaul.[27]

This appreciation for Twice was seen again during the confrontation against the Meta Liberation Army to rescue Giran. After a series of events, by sheer luck, Twice managed to overcome his trauma when the army tried to use his trauma against him. Although this proved beneficial to Tomura, he detested the Liberation Army for toying with Twice's heart.[28] Tomura was initially unaware of Twice's death at the hands of Hawks.[29] However, he was shown to think about Twice when explaining to Izuku "the villains need a hero of their own."

It appears he learned later and was seemingly upset.

Spinner[]

Spinner questions Tomura's motives

Spinner questioning Tomura.

At first, Spinner joined the League of Villains thinking that it would help him to continue with Stain's legacy, so he had no problem with Tomura, following his orders without questioning them.

However, as the time progressed, Spinner began to have doubts about Tomura's actions. The first clue is when the League attack a police convoy to get at Overhaul, who was arrested. Spinner isn't happy about attacking police officers, who have nothing to do with creating a true society. Tomura Shigaraki reassures Shuichi that it is a necessary sacrifice.[30]

Later, after the League had little benefit from other operations, Spinner finally loses his patience and begins to shout at Tomura that he has little faith in him and his ability to lead the League of Villains. He has openly questioned how Tomura and the League will help him bring Stain's goals to fruition.[20]

Nevertheless, he still respects Tomura and was amazed by his determination to defeat and tame Gigantomachia. He also made an attempt to rescue him from the subordinates of the Meta Liberation Army and Re-Destro. However, he is left in awe at Tomura's victory and the enemy bestowing an army upon him.

Later, Spinner's devotion grew and the two bonded over their love for video games and stuff, even telling All For One who possessed Tomura that he is not the one Spinner is following.[31]

During the Final War, despite claiming to have no humanity left, Tomura proceeded to express a desire to make the flattened horizon that Spinner was looking forward to, proving he still cares about him and the rest of the League.

Mr. Compress[]

Mr. Compress appears to have a sense of loyalty to Tomura Shigaraki and the rest of the League. He is dutiful in carrying out objectives. During the Forest Training Camp, Mr. Compress captures not only Katsuki Bakugo but also Fumikage Tokoyami believing him to be beneficial to the group after seeing Dark Shadow's rampage take out Moonfish. When Katsuki is rescued during the All Might and All For One battle he is first to respond that they can't let him escape and asks who has a long-range attack, knowing how much Tomura wants to keep Katsuki. Tomura was shown to be enraged when Compress lost his arm to Overhaul and quickly leapt up to kill the latter to avenge his injured comrade.

Atsuhiro follows Tomura's commands and doesn't hesitate to aid him in battle, as seen when the League was battling Gigantomachia for over a month. He knows that Tomura is the key to the League's happiness and sees him more valuable than himself. He believes that his leader is worthy enough to carry on his great-great-grandfather's legacy and goal, entrusting him with it.

Former Liberation Army Members[]

Re-Destro[]

The battle between Tomura and Rikiya reaches its climax

Tomura facing Re-Destro.

Tomura doesn't appear to have much a view on him, though believes Re-Destro's actions are a nuisance to his own goal. They later speak and Tomura insults him, though Re-Destro retorts back by stating the numbers of his army and revealing he knew where to locate them. Re-Destro states Tomura and his forces are too notorious and he needs them gone to make his Meta Liberation Army known. He personally gives Tomura the option of fighting them or have the League destroyed by heroes.[22] Tomura personally declares to Spinner that Re-Destro is an enemy after he forces his members to fight for a good colleague Giran and vows to eliminate him.[28] Tomura later meets Re-Destro after he destroys his tower and was amused by his real identity as the president of a company before preparing to fight.[32] Tomura angers the villain leader by taunting him on his army's dwindling numbers and asks him where his bravado when he called the League went. However, an enlarged Re-Destro seizes Tomura's hand and starts to snap it, for its part in killing many of his subordinates.[33]

Re-Destro was also disgusted by Tomura's declaration of only wanting to destroy and not having any other purpose. Despite looking down on his mindset, he does recognize the strength and threat Tomura poses, being quick to notice the improvement of his Quirk.[34] He was also shocked by Tomura surviving a fatal attack of his.[2]

During the fight, Re-Destro unwittingly awakens Tomura's memories of his past life and lets him use his Quirk to his full capacity. The horrified Re-Destro becomes forced to use 100% of his "Stress" Meta Ability but is again shrugged off by Tomura who angers him with his goals of simply to destroy. After Re-Destro summons his support item to amplify his Stress, Tomura is not fazed and his new abilities cause Re-Destro to feel fear and he ushers to use 150% of his power to end him.[4] In the end, Tomura uses his new power to not only destroy Deika City and Re-Destro's machine but force him to sever his own legs to survive. Confronting him, Tomura watches as Re-Destro concedes defeat and control of his army to him after seeing he is more worthy of leading the future.[24]

After the battle, it appears Rikiya has come to respect Tomura, as he declared him as truly liberated to the members of the army. He now sees Tomura, as his leader and has become fanatically devoted to him. When he offered anything to please the latter, Tomura simply tells him to "Get lost", which Rikiya gladly does so.[23]

Skeptic[]

Initially, Skeptic thought of Tomura as nothing more than an obstacle in the way of making Destro's name recognizable. However, that changed when Re-Destro acknowledged him as the Liberator and proclaimed him their new leader.

Though Skeptic respects Tomura as his Grand Commander, he still prefers to follow Re-Destro's orders.

Following the events of the Paranormal Liberation War, Skeptic sided with the League to escape the heroes and has began to loyally follow Tomura. Soon All For One in Tomura's body chose him as one of the few allies that Tomura should keep close to him. He then ordered him, Spinner and Dabi to look after Tomura while he recovers and perfects his body.

Pro Heroes[]

All Might[]

Izuku tries to save All Might

Tomura attempting to kill All Might.

Tomura hates the current Hero society, considering it wrong and erroneous, and focuses all of this contempt on All Might, who embodies the Hero society ideals as the symbol of peace and causes regular civilians to be happy.[35][1] Apparently, the catalyst of this hatred occurs in Tomura's childhood after he accidentally kills his family resulting him being homeless, and no hero comes to save him. Upon rescuing him, All For One emphasizes that no one rescued him believing that a hero would come.[8] However, until he attacked the U.A. High School, Tomura never met All Might in person.

They finally meet in the U.S.J., when Tomura orders a raid in the hopes to kill the symbol of peace. Disappointed because All Might is not there, Tomura decides to kill the students to see if that makes him appear. With the arrival of All Might, Tomura resumes his murder plan and after a long and arduous battle he is forced to retreat.[36][37][38]

His hatred for All Might grows even more after he defeats and has his mentor imprisoned.[39]

At first, All Might despises Tomura Shigaraki, considering him as a criminal with a crazy desire to cause harm. However, after discovering that he is the grandson of his beloved mentor, Nana Shimura, his perception about him changes.[40]

Eraser Head[]

Decay

Tomura clashes with Eraser Head.

Tomura met Shota in the U.S.J., when Tomura orders a raid in the hopes to kill the symbol of peace. Tomura watched Eraser Head fight off his grunts and expresses his displeasure to see him live up to his reputation. However, Tomura soon discovers and exploits his weakness before leaving him with a destroyed elbow after their clash though Tomura shows him respect by calling him cool for still standing against him and his forces single-handedly. Tomura then watches with glee when Nomu thrashes the pro-hero into the ground.[41] After Tomura makes a move to kill his students, Eraser Head quickly prevents this by canceling out his Quirk and Tomura is forced to compliment him on his strong will before Nomu takes him down.[42]

Tomura has sincere respect for Eraser Head, going as far as to call him "pretty cool" even during the Paranormal Liberation War when Shota cuts off his leg after taking the Quirk-Erasing Bullet from him. Just afterwards, Tomura leaps forward and maims Shota's face with his hand, costing the hero his right eye.

While Tomura had failed to destroy Shota's Erasure, he did succeed in leaving the hero in a functionally Quirkless state once the war had concluded. With one of his eyes gone, Shota's Quirk was rendered nearly useless.[43]

After months of recovering from his fight in the Paranormal Liberation War and his fight with Star and Stripe, Tomura gains a pitiful view of Shota. When he meets him again at the U.A. Flying Sky Fortress, he remarks he used to think Shota was still so cool, but he has turned out to be a letdown now after he saw how much damaged Shota has taken and survived.[44] He also further taunts Shota after seemingly killing Katsuki Bakugo, saying that his death is his fault for staying on the sidelines and letting a child try to take charge.[45]

During the final battle, while Tomura refers to all the Pro Heroes by their full names, Shota is the only one he refers to as his hero name, Eraser Head, showing lingering respect.

U.A. High School[]

Izuku Midoriya[]

Izuku Midoriya is Tomura Shigaraki's arch-nemesis. Izuku and Tomura mutually despise each other; Tomura despises Izuku for his admiration of All Might, who he hates, while Izuku is disgusted by Tomura's cruel actions. Tomura develops an interest in Izuku after he saves All Might during the U.S.J. attack, and sees him in a match during the U.A. Sports Festival.

Deku facing Tomura

Like his master before him, Tomura faces off against Izuku, his arch-nemesis and his "little brother."

Later, in the shopping mall, they unintentionally meet again and Tomura pretends to be a bystander before revealing his identity to the shocked boy. Threatening to use his Quirk against him and the surrounding civilians, Tomura questions Izuku about the difference between himself and Stain. After hearing Izuku's thoughts on the matter, Tomura realizes his goal and thanks Izuku for helping him see that All Might needs to be eliminated.[35]

Tomura is considered to be a dark reflection of Izuku. While Izuku is working to become the greatest hero, Tomura is working to become the greatest villain. Distinctively, Izuku and Tomura share many similarities. Interestingly, when Tomura was five years old, he bore a striking resemblance to Izuku. As young children, both Tenko and Izuku had a strong admiration for heroes.

Izuku is mentored by All Might and Tomura was mentored by All For One, and both characters inherited their mentor's Quirk with Izuku inheriting All Might's One For All while Tomura inherits All For One's Quirk. They clash the second time during the Paranormal Liberation War, where they have grown to hate each other, mirroring All Might and All For One respectively, fated to clash once again with their Quirks and their desires to become the greatest Hero and greatest Villain.

Despite how much he hates Izuku for being All Might's successor and the next successor of One For All, he has a strange obsession with Izuku, even going far as to call him his "little brother" during the height of the War, primarily due to the struggling control of his body from All For One after he was transplanted with the original Quirk from his master, making him switch in-between personalities of himself and All For One. Even after he stole Star and Stripe's Quirk, New Order, and when it was destroying him inside and out, "Tenko" calls out to "Izuku Midoriya" within the vestige world while surrounded by an onslaught of hands.

Once Izuku defeats All For One's vestige within Tomura's body, it allowed him to emerge once again. While his central aspect as "Tenko" was still crying out to Izuku to save him, it could only manifest itself through continued spite in his present self as "Tomura", pushing Izuku away by declaring he was "[his] villain."

While finally regaining complete control of his body, Tomura announces that he has no desire for One For All, proving that his previous obsession with stealing the quirk was merely an extension of his master's will. "Tomura Shigaraki" and "Tenko Shimura" state their one and only hope: the destruction of everything that stemmed from the abusive house he grew up in and will stop at nothing to eradicate everything associated with it, telling Izuku it will be the only thing that will save him. The two enemies clash, with Tomura Intending to destroy Izuku, the only person in the world with the power to stop him, once and for all.

During their final battle, Tomura constantly mocks Izuku's continued desire to "save him" even as the fate of the world hangs in the balance. Tomura states that people interpret the world around them through narrow, limited windows, and when the world throws the inexplicable at them, they concoct rationalities to put themselves at ease, and tells Izuku that he is simply cramming Tomura into his own narrow worldview. He tells Deku that just like he is able to see the One For All vestiges inside him, he is able to see deep inside himself, as within Tomura is a visage of crumbling buildings melded together are burying the vestige of Tenko Shimura.

In order to defeat him Izuku, begins transferring the vestiges of One For All's wielders, Tomura begins to fear Izuku screaming to stay away from him, while remembering his father's abuse. Eventually, Izuku manages to reach through to Tomura after holding his hand and preventing him from decaying Hana, getting him to stop his desire for vengeance and open up, with Tomura stating that even if Izuku could stamp out his hatred, he'd still need to be the "hero for the villains".

Katsuki Bakugo[]

Tomura first meets him in the U.S.J., he nearly attacked Katsuki and the others before All Might appeared. Tomura takes an interest in Katsuki after he wins the U.A. Sports Festival and successfully procures him during the forest training camp.

Tomura offers Katsuki a place in his organization since they are both adamant about doing things their way. Katsuki refuses, voicing his admiration for All Might and his intent on being a hero. Katsuki attacks Tomura, knocking off "Father".[46] Tomura is irked but impressed by Katsuki's resolve to fight back.[47]

However, after time passes, Tomura loses interest in Katsuki, telling the student that he's no longer on Tomura's radar, and attempts to kill him like he would anyone else.[48]

During the final battle, Tomura once again reiterates these feelings to Katsuki, now with added malice as All For One controls him directly at this point. He taunts him over his weakness and lack of strength in comparison to Izuku, and that the only reason he's interested in him anymore is because of his connection to Izuku.[49] However, Katsuki proves to be troublesome enough that Tomura starts to lose his cool and retaliates, striking him in the chest to the point of seemingly killing him, making him satisifed once again.[50]

When the heroes attempt to revive Katsuki, Tomura starts to panic, realizing that despite his initial claims, Katsuki was able to injure him and can't comprehend that an "extra" like him could do all that to him.[51] It's unclear how much of this panic is from Tomura and how much is from All For One, but it's implied by Tomura's inner monologue that his outrage over never being rescued as a child feeds into All For One's megalomania, furthering the derangement of master and pupil in their melded state.

Other Villains[]

Stain[]

Tomura and Stain

Tomura uses Stain's ideology as a stepping stone for his own convictions.

Tomura has a deep disdain for Hero Killer: Stain. They first meet when Kurogiri tries to recruit Stain as a means of helping Tomura grow out of his impulsive nature. When Tomura tells Stain he wants to destroy All Might, everything he doesn't like and Izuku, Stain replies that Tomura is the type he hates most, "a temper-tantrum-throwing child, or one with "bloodlust but no conviction". Stain ends up injuring Tomura but is intrigued by Tomura voicing his anger, deciding to let him grow.[52]

Annoyed by Stain's ideology and believing him vastly different from himself, Tomura, has the Nomu ravage Hosu City. His intentions to wound Stain's "pride and dignity" by creating more destruction than Stain backfires.[53] Stain becomes infamous while Tomura and the Nomu are reported as an afterthought.[54] Even after Stain's capture, his influence and popularity continue to bother Tomura. Stain sympathizers, Dabi and Himiko, aggravate Tomura to the point where he even decides to attack them.

After this conversation with Izuku, Tomura discovers his true hate for Stain comes from his connection with All Might. Wishing to create a world without All Might, Tomura develops his own conviction and states he will use Stain's ideology as a stepping stone for himself.

Ironically Tomura would ultimately prove Stain right, shortly after the Paranormal Liberation War many heroes would quit following all the destruction the war cause making the populace stop trusting heroes.[55]

Overhaul[]

Overhaul meets the League of Villains

Overhaul makes contact with the League of Villains.

Before their first meeting, Tomura had been shown a picture of Overhaul by All For One.[56]

The two's first encounter goes awry immediately. Overhaul notes that All For One's fall is bigger than All Might's. He poses the question of who will be next to leader of the darkness. Feeling challenged, Tomura responds with himself. He continues that he is gathering forces and expanding the League's operation day by day so he can use the power to "annihilate the society of heroes". Overhaul asks if Tomura has a plan since he's failed to capitalize off of Stain the Hero Killer and the Vanguard Action Squad's most brutish members, Moonfish and Muscular. Overhaul proclaims he has a plan and instead of working for the League, the League should join him and the Shie Hassaikai so he can become the "next leader and put the League to good use". Tomura demands that Overhaul leave, causing a short skirmish resulting in Magne getting killed and Mr. Compress losing his left arm. Despite this bad start, Overhaul still sees value in the League and encourages Tomura to figure things out before contacting him again.[56]

Tomura's second encounter goes better, although Tomura is momentarily threatened with a gun for his sudden movement and he mentions that the Shie Hassaikai needs to compensate the League for Mr. Compress's arm and Magne's death.[57] Overhaul divulges his plans and the Quirk-Destroying Drug to Tomura in order to gain access to the League's clout. In return, "to build trust, and clear away ill will," Overhaul requests Tomura loan Himiko and Twice to him.[26]

However, when Overhaul is defeated by Izuku and is being transported to a hospital, Tomura attacks the police escorting him. Tomura voices his reasons for hating Overhaul; he's too "high and mighty". Overhaul is at first unfazed by Tomura's and Mr. Compress's appearances but becomes angry when Tomura steals his Quirk-destroying drug however. The two each take an arm from Overhaul as retribution. Tomura gleefully taunts the now helpless and powerless Overhaul about how all Overhaul's creation is now his. Overhaul is left in a state of dread and fear, losing all of his life work and now unable to heal his boss from his coma.[30]
