Todoroki Family vs. Dabi is a battle taken place during the Final War between the Todoroki Family - Endeavor, Rei, Fuyumi, Natsuo, and Shoto - and Dabi.
Ingenium assists Shoto in arriving to the battlefield.
Prologue[]
After being warped to Endeavor's location in Gunga by Kurogiri, Dabi unleashes his Blueflames upon the mountain, which in conjunction with Himiko Toga's Sad Man's Parade, begins to overwhelm the Heroes and force them on the defensive. While he fights off several Twice Doubles attacking him, Endeavor recognizes the fire around Dabi's chest as Shoto's Phosphor move, asking what happened to him. Dabi says he wanted to give him his head, but he was too strong, so is upset that his dream won't come true, but he will still try to take as much as he can from whatever Endeavor tries to protect.
Just then, Hawks calls out to Endeavor, telling him that because their divide-and-conquer plan failed, he now has to deal with Dabi, while he'll take care of All For One. Dabi charges toward his father, and thinking about his duty, realizes that this time he is finally seeing Toya. The two begin a chase as Endeavor lures Dabi away from the primary location of the battlefield.[1]
However, what Endeavor doesn't realize is that ever since Dabi re-invigorated himself, he has been internally compressing his thermal energy, and that in about ten minutes time, his body will explode and incinerate everything within a 5 kilometre radius. The Counter-Force observing the battlefields discover this revelation, and even worse realize that several of the civilian evacuation blocks that have been travelling in-between U.A. and Shiketsu are trapped in the middle of the blast zone. Between the Heroes still dealing with Himiko's Doubles, and All For One slowly making his way to Deku and Tomura's location, they start to run out of options.
Meanwhile in Kamino, Shoto insists on trying to do something to help, since he knows Deku is in danger and that he is still standing. Ingenium warns him because he hasn't recovered from using Phosphor yet, and can only imagine the feelings that drove his friend to stand against his brother, wondering why he should bear this burden alone after all that he has done for him.
The two suddenly receive a call in their earpieces from All Might, who tells them to run to Gunga, informing them about Dabi's impending explosion, the civilians trapped there, and how Endeavor can't do anything to stop it. He says he knows Ingenium can run, and tells Shoto that, after overcoming a tremendous inner turmoil, he knows that Shoto knows his mind and body have now become one. Shoto worries for All Might, but he assures that a "mighty ally" is waiting to deal with All For One, and that he has the utmost respect for anyone who continues to fight in the face of doubt. He bolsters Shoto, saying to put a stop to Toya, and to make everyone safe, so that he can be his best self, and says that the dynamic duo of Engine and Half-Cold Half-Hot is enough to deal with the crisis in Gunga.
Shoto worries that Ingenium won't be able to run since his Engine has stalled, but he simply responds saying that the rain has cooled them down, reminding him that his legs are designed to guide wayward children. Carrying Shoto on his back, Ingenium uses his Ultimate Move Maximum Speed, and blasts through the city on their way to Gunga.[2]
Elsewhere in the evacuation blocks, the civilians receive some trouble due to some of All For One's spies sabotaging the structure, but they are apprehended by the Heroes. However, the damage starts to become too much, and they are forced to evacuate to the surface. Outside everyone bears witness to an incredibly immense sphere of heat as a result of Dabi's impending explosion, as they are told to ride the support robots to get as far away as possible. Among the civilians are the other members of the Todoroki family: Rei, Natsuo, and Fuyumi. Rei defies these orders, and breaking away from her children, orders a robot to head towards the center of the flames, to which the robot responds that it exists to serve humans' desires.[3]
Battle[]
Roughly 800 meters from the Gunga Mountains, Endeavor learns from the Counter-Force about Dabi's impending explosion, as he starts to slow down in their chase. He makes note that, along with the evacuation blocks being in danger, Pixie-Bob's group, who are still fighting Himiko's Doubles, are as well. His injuries sustained during his fight with All For One catch up to him, making him unable to lure Dabi any further.
The blazing Dabi flies toward Endeavor, maniacally yelling for him to "Watch me!", causing Endeavor to see a young Toya in his eyes, as Dabi purposefully explodes his right arm and launches a devastating Vanishing Fist against his father, completely enveloping him. Dabi then unleashes numerous pillars of flame onto the battlefield, which knocks Endeavor to the ground. Dabi grabs ahold of him, as Endeavor begs for his son to extinguish his flames as he doesn't want to see him die. Dabi continues to repeat the same words over and over, leading Endeavor to realize his mind is long gone. He also wonders, with heat strong enough to burn even him, how Dabi is holding himself together through all this.
Endeavor reaches into Dabi's heart, and thinks about how Quirks can Awaken, when their user has a near-death experience, while on the other hand, some people are able to summon a large amount of power in a crisis, but unlike an Awakening, this occurs only when someone is truly about to die. Within Dabi's Phosphor, Endeavor recognizes Rei's Quirk, realizing Dabi has manifested ice within his own Quirk.
As his life flashes before his eyes, Endeavor looks at Dabi, accepting full responsibility for his past actions, believing he had to bear that burden and live his life atoning for what he had done, but now recognizes that Dabi was watching him this whole time, while he couldn't be there to do the same, especially when he was someone he needed to do right by. Endeavor declares that he won't let Dabi die alone, but also won't let anyone else get caught up in their tragedy, as he grabs ahold of his son, and rides his fire into the sky, so that they may explode in the sky together. However, before they can get too far, as Dabi's body begins to crack apart, Rei appears before the two, using her ice to cool them both down, much to Endeavor's confusion.[4]
Rei continues using her Quirk to shield herself from the heat, and to cool down Dabi, whom she calls out to. Endeavor shouts for her to leave or she'll be burned to death, but she responds that the same will happen to the pair of them. Dabi recognizes his mother, who proceeds to apologize to him. He then recognizes Natsuo and Fuyumi, who have followed their mother into the flames as Rei turns around to realize this, with them also using their Quirks to protect themselves from the immense heat.
Rei yells at them, telling them to stay away, but Fuyumi cries out that she can't take any more loss, as she begs Dabi to not take everyone down with him, being unable to bear losing anyone else. Remembering their interactions when they were children, Natsuo yells to Dabi to quit causing trouble. As the Todorokis continue to shoot their ice at Dabi, Endeavor implores Dabi to not kill anyone else and that he should be enough.
The only thing Dabi can do in response is let out a couple muffled laughs, thinking about how everyone is finally watching him, and looking at Endeavor, thinks "...so this is what it's like?". Envisioning his family and himself together and happy, he wonders why it hadn't happened sooner, if it was this simple.[3]
The Counter-Force reports in on Dabi's inferno, detailing that the rise in temperature is slowing down thanks to the efforts of the Todorokis, but the temperature is not dropping, meaning that the explosion is inevitable. Rei, Fuyumi, and Natsuo, still at the centre of the blaze, continue their attempt to cool Dabi down.
The firebomb continues to expand, infringing on the adjacent battle between the Heroes and the Twice Doubles. The Heroes and the civilians continue to ride the robots and vehicles, attempting to evade the explosion and head to safety. As the chaos is reaching its climax up, Ingenium and Shoto speed toward Gunga aboard an Engine-powered fighter jet made of ice, as Shoto readies his Phosphor.[5]
As Ingenium's Engine begins to falter, he tells Shoto that he can escort him no further, something Shoto thanks him for. Using Phosphor, the duo combine their abilities for a final burst of speed, as the Counter-Force look on in awe as they witness them travel as fast as a fighter jet, noticing Shoto creating ice constructs to reduce drag, whilst heating the air to reduce friction. Naomasa Tsukauchi anxiously watches, thinking about All Might's words of them being their only help, describing him as "one hell of a teacher".
Ingenium's Engine gives out, causing him to collapse to the floor, but is still able to yell out to Shoto, thanking him for helping him become the person he wants to be, and that he needs to make it happen for him too. Shoto is shot forward, and starts running toward the blazing inferno. He thinks back to a letter he wrote to his mother during schooltime, where he explains that to reach his classmates' level, he is making efforts to speak up and talk with them daily, and while it can sometimes lead to conflict, it has lead to a better understanding of how they think and feel. He wants to be like his friends, who get mad and cry for the sake of others, and while it's not easy, he's trying.
Shoto enters the vicinity of Dabi's inferno, where the rest of his family are as they're still trying to cool Dabi down, who is on the verge of detonating. As the brothers look at each other, they each wonder what would have happened if they'd butted heads sooner, with Shoto thinking that there are still arguments he wants to have and things he wants to say. Unleashing his full power, Shoto completely extinguishes the inferno with Great Glacial Aegir, defeating Dabi for good.[6]
Aftermath[]
Shoto starts to recover, speaking to his family, while looking down at the charred and partially frozen Dabi. He says that it was good that they were there, because his Great Glacial Aegir may not have been enough, since Dabi's flames kept getting hotter and hotter, far beyond his reach and figuring he was never the "masterpiece creation."
As he slowly freezes from the inside out, Dabi begins cursing his family, saying that everyone, including himself, should drop dead. Natsuo wonders what's next for everyone, as all that awaits them is "pure hell", while Endeavor begins crawling toward Dabi, apologizing for not going to Sekoto Peak. Dabi responds that he hates him and his family, and Endeavor says that he deserves it and to keep it coming, but not before apologizing to Rei, Fuyumi, Natsuo, and Shoto for everything as well.[6]
Shortly afterwards, after they all survive the onslaught of Twice Doubles,[7] Rei, Fuyumi, Natsuo, and Dabi are escorted away by the evacuation robots to treat their wounds, while Shoto and Endeavor use a Warp Gate to take part in the final battle against All For One.[8]
By the end of the war, all of the Todorokis's wounds are eventually treated, but they are left permanently scarred in the process. Dabi's injuries, on the other hand, were too severe that he had to be kept in a life supporting pod, as his life slowly begins to reach its end.[9]
