Young Tenya and his brother Tensei

A young Tenya and his family.

Born as the second son of the Ida Family, a family that has been in heroics for generations, Tenya aspired to be like his older brother, Tensei, who became a famous hero in his family, known as "Ingenium".[1] Tenya once asked his older brother what motivated him to be a hero, to which Tensei replied that he wanted to be a 'cool' type of Hero that helps others when they are in need. When Tenya speaks of his admiration for his older brother, Tensei is joyful that Tenya looks up to him and says that he must be a great hero since Tenya admires him.[2]

Before attending U.A. High School, Tenya previously went to Soumei Junior High School, a prestigious, private school.[3]

Synopsis[]

Entrance Exam Arc[]

Izuku counted out

Izuku gets unwanted looks from Tenya and the other applicants.

Tenya first appears at the U.A. Entrance Exam. In the auditorium before the practical portion, Tenya questions Present Mic about the four villains listed during the explanation. After Present Mic answers his question, Tenya yells at another participant, Izuku Midoriya, for muttering too much as he is being a distraction. Tenya later confronts Izuku just before the practical portion begins. He notices Izuku trying to talk to a female participant, Ochaco Uraraka, but stops him from ruining her concentration with him drawing more bad attention to Izuku.

Tenya entrance exam

Tenya manages to do very well during the test, scoring forty five points well into the exam by using his Engine Quirk. When the giant robot worth zero points shows up, Tenya flees the area despite noticing that Izuku was on the ground paralyzed with fear. He is soon shocked to see Izuku spring into action, where he saves Ochaco from the zero pointer bot by destroying it with one devastating blow.

Tenya is the only one among the viewing participants to notice that Izuku saved Ochaco. This leads Tenya to question the nature of the exam and ponders whether heroic acts had a part in the exam all along. He says to himself that he would have done the same if he hadn't been on the exam and that maybe it's part of the test.[4]

Quirk Apprehension Test Arc[]

Tenya fitness test

Tenya excels during the Quirk Apprehension Test.

April arrives and the U.A. academic year begins. On the very first day in Class 1-A, Tenya argues with Katsuki Bakugo over putting his feet on the desk. Tenya explains that this action is disrespectful to the school, but Katsuki doesn't care. Tenya tries to calm down and introduce himself properly, but Katsuki's only reply is that he'll simply crush him. Tenya is shocked that Katsuki would threaten his own classmate just as Izuku enters the class, surprised he is classmates with both Katsuki and Tenya. Seeing him, Tenya decides to re-introduce himself to Izuku instead. He apologizes for his previous treatment and commends him for seeing what he had not during the practical exam, that saving others was just as important as defeating the villains. Tenya even goes on to say that Izuku is the superior student.[3]

Ochaco arrives and interrupts them by introducing herself to Izuku just before Shota Aizawa arrives and reveals himself to be Class 1-A's teacher. Shota takes the students to the P.E. field for a Quirk Apprehension Test. Tenya completes the fifty meter dash in 3.04 seconds, but questions why Izuku is struggling through them. When Izuku finally uses his Quirk, it shocks Tenya and the rest of the class with his impressive ball toss.[5]

Izuku, Ochaco & Tenya

Tenya with Izuku and Ochaco.

He notices that Izuku has barely trained with his Quirk, due to his finger injury. In the test, Tenya sees that he has placed 4th. Later on, he asks Izuku if his fingers had healed. He tells Izuku that Shota can encourage students through deceptions to get the best out of a student. He then sees Ochaco walk to them and remembers that Shota gave her an infinity score on the test. She calls Izuku "Deku," as Izuku tells them it's an insult Katsuki gave him as children, but changes his view on the name as Ochaco calls it cute, as Tenya is surprised at this change of mind. The next day, Tenya is seen wearing his hero costume.[6]

Battle Trial Arc[]

Tenya finds Ochaco

Tenya notices Ochaco sneaking around.

During the Battle Trial Arc, Tenya is paired up with Katsuki as the villains. Tenya complains that Katsuki left him alone to guard the fake Nuclear Bomb. He contacts Katsuki and asks about the situation, but Katsuki just tells him to guard the fake bomb and then hangs up, much to Tenya's annoyance.

While guarding the bomb, Tenya decides to act more like a villain. He takes his villain role so seriously that Ochaco can't help but laugh. This makes him realize that she is in the room, and says that he has been expecting her. He goes on to say that he is prepared to counter her Quirk by cleaning the floor and starts to laugh like a villain.[7]

Team A Wins

Ochaco successfully recovers the warhead, causing Tenya and Katsuki to lose.

Suddenly, Tenya is distracted by Katsuki's Explosion, shocked by his action. Ochaco uses his distraction to her advantage and uses Skill Release to jump over Tenya to grab the bomb, but Tenya uses his Engine Quirk to quickly snatch it away before she could reach it.

The floor is destroyed by Izuku's Detroit Smash and Ochaco uses the opportunity to launch her Home Run Comet attack, which distracts Tenya long enough for Ochaco to grab the bomb, making Tenya and Katsuki lose the battle trial.[8]

Honored Tenya

Tenya's trial performance is praised.

Tenya goes to the monitor room to have his critique. All Might says that the best participant in the battle trial was Tenya, which greatly shocks him. Momo Yaoyorozu, says that Katsuki and Izuku using large ranged attacks in an indoor area was too idiotic; Ochaco's game got loose halfway and her last attack was reckless.

She continues on to say that he was the best due to him adapting the most to the situation by organizing a counter strategy against his opponent that would allow him to protect the bomb the best way possible while hindering his opponent. Tenya can't help but feel enormously happy being praised in that way.[9]

U.S.J. Arc[]

Ida Family

Tenya reveals he's a member of the Ida hero family.

Tenya is approached by reporters, asking him what he thinks of All Might as a teacher, to which he replies that he's happy to have an impressive role model as a teacher. In class, Tenya says that a leader is only worthy from a democratic choice of the people's will and proposes a vote, to which is allowed. After the vote, he is disappointed to see that he didn't get any votes.

At lunch, Tenya assures Izuku that he will do a fine job as Class President, going on to say that he has guts and right judgment, which is why Tenya voted for him (even though he wanted to be Class President). After Ochaco asks if he's from an upper-class family, Tenya confirms that he is, telling Ochaco and Izuku that he's from the Ida Family, a prestigious family that's been in heroics for generations. He then reveals that Turbo Hero Ingenium is his older brother and aspires to be like him one day.

Tenya Calms Down The Students

Tenya alerts the students about the false alarm.

After the siren goes off, he gets pushed around during the evacuation, eventually pushed against the window, which he sees that the "infiltration" is just the media. Tenya decides to step up and stop the chaotic evacuation, asking Ochaco to make him float, allowing him to jump up into the air and then uses his Engine Quirk to sprint onto the exit sign, where he is finally able to tell everybody to calm down since its just the media, which stops the chaotic evacuation.

In class, Izuku decides to step down as Class President and makes Tenya his replacement, saying that he is ideally the right choice after stopping the chaos in the lunchroom to which everyone agrees. Thus, Tenya officially becomes the Class President of 1-A.[1]

Class 1-A travel to the U.S.J.

Tenya and the rest of Class 1-A in the bus to the U.S.J..

Tenya changes into his Hero Costume in preparation for the rescue training trial and orders his classmates to get into two lines according to numbers to get into the bus smoothly (although this turned out to be pointless due to the layout of the bus). Tenya is later seen applauding Thirteen's speech. However, before anything else could progress, the trail is interrupted by the arrival of a group of actual villains, much to Tenya's surprise.[10][11]

Tenya tries to evacuate with his class, but their attempt is foiled when Kurogiri begins to separate the class with his warping ability. However, he manages to escape from the villain's ability, saving Ochaco and Rikido Sato in the process.[12] They are further joined by Hanta Sero, Mina Ashido, Mezo Shoji and Thirteen, who all confront Kurogiri himself.

Tenya runs from Kurogiri

Tenya fleeing from Kurogiri.

Thirteen asks Tenya to dash back to U.A. as fast as he could and inform the school of their situation. Tenya is at first reluctant to do so as it would be disgraceful to abandon his classmates, but after being encouraged by Rikido, Hanta, Ochaco and Thirteen, with the latter being taken down by Kurogiri, Tenya decides to run back to U.A., with Kurogiri in pursuit of the student.[13]

As Tenya approaches the exit, he is intercepted by one of Kurogiri's portals, but Mezo distracts the villain long enough for Tenya to reach the exit, which he is forced to open manually, however, Kurogiri tries to stop him once again, only for his attempt to be foiled by a combined effort coming from Ochaco, Hanta and Rikido. With the villain finally being taken off his back, Tenya manages to escape the U.S.J. building.[14]

U.A. Teachers vs

Tenya arrives with reinforcements.

Tenya, on his way to U.A., runs into All Might and tells him about the situation. Tenya manages to get to U.A. and gets the Hero some backup. He arrives back at the U.S.J. with the hero backup, just in time to save Izuku and All Might. Tenya is then seen with the rest of his class after the battle with the Villain Alliance ends.[15]

U.A. Sports Festival Arc[]

Izuku & Tenya listen to Ochaco

Ochaco embarrassingly tells her motivations to Izuku and Tenya.

Following the attack on the U.S.J. students continue their routines until the Sport Festival is about to start. Tenya and Izuku are surprised to see that Ochaco is the most excited about the event. After the fourth period of modern literature ends, Izuku and Tenya listen to Ochaco's motivations to be a heroine. She wants to earn money, noting that it is a selfish reason, but Tenya says that becoming a hero to make a living is not selfish at all.

Izuku and Tenya point out that Ochaco's Quirk could drastically reduce business expenses if she got licensed, and her family could sell their construction equipment as well. Ochaco agrees completely, but remembers that her father encouraged her as a child to follow her own dreams instead. Izuku and Tenya are genuinely inspired by Ochaco's noble ambition.[16]

Tenya obstacle race

Tenya traversing a rope.

On the day of the Sports Festival, Tenya is seen walking out to the event with his class. During the Obstacle Race, Tenya manages to navigate past the robots. Afterward, he heads towards the Fall, where he uses his 'Engine' Quirk to ride the tightropes in order to get to overcome the obstacle. Tenya later speedily avoids the hidden landmines as they explode.[17]

He eventually manages to complete the Obstacle Race, placing sixth,[18] allowing him to continue on to the next event, the Human Cavalry Battle. Izuku tries to have Tenya join him and Ochaco in their team, however, while liking Izuku's strategy, he politely declines his invitation to join his team.

Tenya challenges Izuku

Tenya's declaration to Izuku.

Tenya states that, even though they are good friends, he feels that if he keeps following Izuku he will never grow. Tenya then says that he will be challenging himself against Izuku so that he can grow. Tenya is then seen teaming up with Shoto Todoroki, Momo and Denki Kaminari. Shoto explains that Tenya will be in the front using his Quirk to act as a physical defense. After the Human Cavalry Battle begins, Tenya and his team confront Izuku and his team.[19]

Shoto orders Momo to prepare an insulator sheet and tells Denki to prepare to release his electricity. Shoto covers himself along with Momo and Tenya with the insulator sheet while Denki releases a huge amount of electricity, electrocuting and stunning the other teams attacking them. Afterward, Shoto immobilizes the stunned teams by freezing their legs. Shoto takes one of the headbands of the teams while charging forward to fight Izuku's team. Fumikage Tokoyami's Dark Shadow tries to attack Shoto but Momo uses her Quirk to block the Dark Shadow. Shoto's team continues fighting but Izuku's team proves to be quite resilient.

Team Todoroki steals the 10,000,000 points

Tenya uses Recipro Burst to get the ten million points.

With only a minute left, Tenya tells his team to hold on tight as he uses his move, Recipro Burst, to forcibly accelerate his movement to blazing speeds allowing him and his team to speed past their enemies in a blink of an eye which catches Izuku's team off guard and allows Shoto to grab Izuku's 10 million headband in the confusion. Tenya then explains his move but adds that he will suffer from engine stall for a short time, meaning he and his team are unable to move. He then says reminds Izuku that he is challenging himself against him. Izuku's team attack Tenya and his team. Unable to move, Tenya and his team are forced to fight Izuku's team for the remaining minute of the Human Cavalry Battle.[20]

After Izuku manages to get a headband from Shoto, Tenya tells Shoto to pull himself together which snaps Shoto back to reality. For the last ten seconds, Tenya's team prepares to battle, but the Human Cavalry Battle ends before they could battle. Tenya's team places first, allowing him and his team to participate in the final event. After the lunch break begins, Ochaco talks to him about him being sneaky with his Recipro Burst move, but Tenya replies that he was not being sneaky and all he wanted to do was be a proper rival to Izuku.[21]

Mei auto bracers

Mei uses their battle to advertise her inventions.

The final event is a tournament event and Tenya's opponent in the first round is Mei Hatsume. Mei meets her opponent, asking if he is Tenya, to which he replies that he is. Mei gives Tenya some support items so that their fight can be on equal terms, which he accepts. During the recreational events, Tenya is seen drinking cool drinks to renew his energy. Tenya watches Shoto's match with Hanta, becoming shocked and horrified when Shoto creates a huge pillar of ice.[22]

Tenya then faces Mei in his match with her, equipped with the support items and gadgets she gave him. After Midnight explains that students in the Department of Heroes need to apply for permission to use support items, Tenya apologizes for doing so, saying that he was moved by her superb sportsmanship for wanting to fight on equal terms and felt that not using her support gadgets would be dishonorable of him.

Mei tricks Tenya

Tenya wins but is angry at being tricked by Mei.

The match begins with Tenya running at Mei using his enhanced leg support item received from Mei, but Mei dodges him with her own equipment. For the next ten minutes, Tenya and Mei continue their fight with Mei explaining the features of her gadgets and items in the process. After ten minutes, Mei steps out of bounds and eliminates herself from the tournament, allowing Tenya to advance to the next round. Tenya is angered for being played like a fool, with Mei apologizing to him for doing so.

After winning his match, Tenya goes to the waiting room to relax, only to find Ochaco in the waiting room as well. After Izuku arrives and offers to give her notes on a strategy against Katsuki based on her Quirk, Tenya thinks that Ochaco must be pleased. However, Ochaco politely declines Izuku's offer, saying that she will be all right. Tenya, along with Izuku, go to their seats to watch Ochaco's match with Katsuki.[23] Tenya asks Izuku what his counter strategy for Katsuki was, to which Izuku replies that the strategy involved striking fast to gain the advantage. Tenya watches the match and expresses worry for Ochaco when she gets hit repeatedly by Katsuki's explosions.[24]

Izuku's friends check on him

Tenya and friends visited Izuku.

During the match between Izuku and Shoto, Tenya becomes shocked that Shoto is using his fire power despite him saying that he never would. After Shoto defeats Izuku, Tenya, along with Ochaco, Tsuyu, and Minoru Mineta, go to Kango's office to see Izuku. However, Tenya is forced to leave as Kango states that Izuku is going to undergo surgery.[25]

Tenya faces his opponent, Ibara Shiozaki in his second round match. During the match, Ibara attacks Tenya with her thorns, but Tenya's maneuverability allowed him to avoid her thorns. In the remaining seconds of the match, Tenya uses Recipro Burst, grabs Ibara, and throws her out of bounds, thus making Tenya the winner and allowing him to move on to the third round (the semi-finals).

Tenya then goes to see Izuku and is happy to see that his surgery went well. After Tenya told Izuku how he defeated Ibara, he tells Izuku that he will make ample use of his match against Shoto. Izuku asks Tenya if his brother is watching, Tenya tells Izuku that he was, but is busy due to work. Tenya tells Izuku that he will report back to his brother as the victor of the tournament event. After Katsuki defeats Eijiro Kirishima, Tenya tells Izuku he will be back and goes down to the ring.

Tenya vs Shoto

Tenya uses Recipro burst in his kick to take out Shoto.

Tenya faces his opponent, Shoto, in his third-round match. After the match begins, Shoto attacks first with a wave of ice, but Tenya dodges the ice by jumping towards Shoto. While in the air, Tenya notes that now that Shoto is using his firepower, his options are very narrow, causing Tenya to think that his best option is using Recipro Burst to finish the match quickly.

Tenya uses Recipro Burst and tries to attack Shoto with a speed-enhanced kick, but Shoto dodges his kick. Tenya quickly counters and attacks Shoto with another speed-enhanced kick, which slams Shoto down onto the floor and injures him. Shoto grabs Tenya's leg, but Tenya kicks Shoto away. Tenya grabs Shoto and proceeds to try and throw Shoto out of bounds before Recipro Burst ends.

Shoto beats Tenya

Shoto encases Tenya in ice, beating him and advancing to the finals.

However, along the way, Tenya realizes that there is ice in his mufflers and he slows down. Shoto then freezes Tenya's entire body. Due to being unable to move, Tenya is declared defeated and is eliminated from the tournament event. Tenya is angry at himself for not thinking more about his opponent's tactics and apologizes to his brother for losing.[26]

Tenya, along with Izuku and Ochaco, watches the match between Fumikage and Katsuki. After Fumikage surrenders, Tenya tells Izuku and Ochaco to watch the final match closely for their revenge later, to which Izuku and Ochaco agree. Suddenly, Tenya's phone starts ringing and excuses himself.

Tenya goes to answer his phone in private. Tenya picks up his phone, noticing that his mother is calling him. Tenya apologizes to his mother for losing in his match and that he was too careless. However, Tenya's mother tells him that she is not phoning about that, though she does apologize for his loss and tells Tenya to stay calm for her real reason. Tenya is shocked at the news his mother is telling him and becomes distraught.[27] Tenya tells Ochaco and Izuku that he has to leave due to learning that his older brother has been cut down by a villain. Tenya leaves the Sports Festival and goes to the Hosu General Hospital where his brother is.

Tenya visits Tensei in the hospital

Tenya visits Tensei in hospital after he was attacked by the Hero Killer.

At the hospital, Tenya immediately barges into the room his brother is in and is shocked at Tensei's injuries. Tensei, despite being weak, tells Tenya that he is a brilliant little brother and apologizes to him for not being able to be the role model Tenya sees him as. Tenya begins to weep.[28] Tensei tells Tenya that he can no longer feel any movement in his legs and says that this is probably the end for Turbo Hero Ingenium. Tenya refuses to believe this, unable to stand the idea. Tensei tells Tenya he cannot stand the idea either and asks him to carry on the torch and use Ingenium as his Hero name.

Vs. Hero Killer Arc[]

Two days after the Sports Festival, Tenya is running to U.A. and passes by Izuku, telling him that they should be at least 10 minutes earlier for school. After arriving inside, Tenya tells Izuku that he doesn't have to be worried about his older brother as he will be fine and apologizes for causing him unnecessary concern. During the Hero Informatics Period, Shota shows the students the Pro Hero nominations, which reveals that Tenya received 301 Pro Hero nominations to which Ochaco congratulates him.

Tenya Ida chooses his hero name

Tenya chooses his hero name.

Afterwards, Class 1-A has to decide on hero names. Tenya and Izuku are the last ones to reveal their Hero names. Tenya struggles on whether to use his brother's Hero name, Ingenium or not. Tenya is unable to bring himself to write down Tensei's Hero name Ingenium and instead writes down and shows his classmates his own name.[29]

After Class 1-A is finished formulating their Hero names, Tenya is given his personalized work place list to choose a work place that he wants to train at. Tenya chooses the Hosu City Hero Office to train at. The day of the work place training arrives and Tenya is at the train station with his class. As Tenya goes to board his train, Izuku tells Tenya that if he needs someone to talk to, he can talk to him and Ochaco (with Ochaco nodding in agreement) as they are friends. Tenya says that he will. He then walks away to his train with a scowl on his face.[30]

Tenya wants revenge

Tenya wants to avenge his brother.

Tenya arrives at Hosu City's office. In the borough of Hosu City, Tenya in his Hero costume goes on patrol with Manual. Tenya ponders that the Hero Killer Stain was the one who critically injured his older brother Ingenium, deciding that he himself will chase after Stain, unable to forgive the Hero Killer for his crime, declaring that he will avenge his older brother and kill him.[31]

In the Hosu Hero Office, Tenya has arrived back from patrolling. Tenya has gathered information on the Hero Killer Stain, the villain who severely injured his older brother and realizes that Stain has an attack pattern. Tenya concludes that Stain will without a doubt be in Hosu to attack more Pro Heroes. Tenya, in a silent rage, tells Stain to appear so that he himself can dispose of Stain with his own hands.[32]

Manual and Tenya

Tenya and Manual on patrol.

It is the third day of workplace training and Tenya is out patrolling with Normal Hero. Normal Hero asks Tenya if he is chasing after the Hero Killer Stain, thinking that would be the only reason Tenya came to the Hosu Hero Office. He tells Tenya not to act out on a personal grudge. Normal Hero apologizes for his question to which Tenya replies that he appreciates his warning. However, Tenya ponders that if he doesn't get revenge, what should he do with his rage and emotions.

Chaos emerges in Hosu and Normal Hero, who at the time was patrolling with Tenya, tells Tenya to go with him. Suddenly, Tenya sees someone in an alley. he approaches closer and sees that it is the Hero Killer Stain. Tenya immediately charges at Stain. However, Stain takes his katana and slashes it at Tenya, knocking Tenya down to the ground as well as knocking off Tenya's helmet and glasses. Stain sees that Tenya is just a child and tells him to leave. Tenya gets up, seeing that the villain in front of him is indeed the Hero Killer Stain.

Stain threatens Tenya

Stain warns Tenya about vengeance.

With a scowl on his face, Tenya tells Stain that he has been searching for him but didn't expect to meet him so soon. Stain points his katana at Tenya's face, telling Tenya that his eyes are seething with vengeance and warns Tenya not to meddle with him, otherwise even children will become targets. Stain prepares to walk away, but Tenya, seething with rage, yells at Stain that he is the brother of a Pro Hero that he cut down and he is here in his older brother's stead. Tenya tells Stain to remember his Hero name; Ingenium, which is the name of the Hero that will take him down. Stain sees that the child is serious and tells Tenya to prepare for death.[33]

Tenya attacks Stain with a high speed kick, but the Hero Killer dodges Tenya's fast kick with ease by jumping above him. Stain kicks Tenya's right arm, causing it to bleed and slams Tenya onto the ground with his left foot. Stain stabs Tenya's left shoulder with his katana which defeats Tenya. Stain reveals to Tenya that he let Tensei live in order to feed rumors. Stain says that both him and his brother are weak because they are fake Heroes. Tenya, even though he is defeated, rebukes Stain's claim that his older brother Tensei is weak, yelling that Tensei was a splendid Hero and that he will kill Stain to avenge his older brother. Stain tells Tenya to save the injured Pro Hero behind him, advising the defeated younger brother to act selflessly by rescuing others first and not be selfish by brandishing his power for his own sake. Stain states that seeking revenge just to satisfy one's selfish desires is the act furthest from the title of "hero" which is why he will die now.

Bloodcurdle

Stain paralyzes Tenya.

Stain stomps his foot on Tenya's head and prepares to kill Tenya with his katana, licking the blood. Tenya tries to move his body but is unable to. Tearing up, Tenya refuses to believe Stain's advise, yelling that Stain is just criminal scum who hurt his older brother. Stain is about to deliver the finishing blow, but is punched in the face by the timely appearance of Izuku, which stops Stain from killing Tenya, shocking Tenya.[34]

Tenya orders Izuku not to get involved since his fight with Stain has nothing to do with him. Izuku responds to Tenya's order, saying that Heroes would not be able to do anything by following Tenya's logic. Tenya watches the battle between Izuku and Stain. After Izuku lands a powerful blow on Stain, Tenya is shocked at Izuku's fast movements, comparing Izuku's movements to Katsuki's. However, Stain managed to get some blood from Izuku when Izuku was dodging his slashes, causing Izuku to become immobilized. Stain prepares to kill Tenya once again, but suddenly, a column of fire and ice attacks Stain, forcing Stain to stop his attack on Tenya and dodge the fire and ice. Shoto reveals himself as the one that attacked Stain.[35]

Tenya realizes his mistake

Tenya realizes his mistake.

Shoto then proceeds to battle Stain. As their battle gets underway, Tenya begs Shoto to stop fighting, as he inherited Ingenium's Hero name. Shoto criticizes Tenya for making a vengeful face, saying that the Ingenium he knows would not make such a face. Izuku and Shoto team up to battle Stain, stating that they will protect Tenya. Tenya starts to feel regret for his actions as he has not been acting like a Hero should be. Stain paralyzes Izuku with his Quirk, causing a regretful Tenya to tell them to stop. Shoto replies that if Tenya wants to stop them he must stand up. As Stain breaks through his wall of ice, Shoto encourages Tenya to set his eyes on the person he wants to be. Tenya remembers that he wants to be like his brother, Ingenium and tries to break free of Stain's Quirk.[36]

Tenya is ashamed that he needs protection from his friends, Izuku and Shoto. He then remembers his brother's motivation for being a Hero; that helping people is the best motivation for being a Hero. Tenya agrees with Stain; that he is a failure as a Hero and pales in comparison to Izuku and Shoto.

Recipro Burst

Tenya saves Shoto with his Recipro Burst.

Stain's Quirk wears off and Tenya gets up with the motivation of not wanting to be outpaced as a Hero by Izuku, Shoto and his brother. Tenya uses Recipro Burst and smashes his leg into Stain's katana, breaking the katana in half. Tenya then kicks Stain away. Tenya apologizes to Izuku and Shoto for getting them involved in his problems, not wanting them to spill anymore blood for his sake.

Stain criticizes Tenya for having a change of heart, saying that a man's character never changes. Shoto tells Tenya to pay no heed to Stain, but Tenya says that Stain is correct about him not being a true Hero. Tenya tells Stain that he cannot give up so easily, as doing so means that Ingenium would die. Tenya asks Shoto to cool down his leg, but Stain attacks Shoto with daggers to which Tenya intercepts and falls down to the ground. Shoto cools Tenya's leg, restoring Tenya's mobility. Tenya uses Recipro Extend and leaps into the air towards Stain. He hits Stain in the stomach with his speed enhanced kick while Izuku punches Stain in the face with his enhanced might.[2]

Izuku and Tenya defeat Stain

Izuku and Tenya defeat Stain.

Stain makes one last ditch attempt to kill Tenya, but Tenya retaliates with a kick and Shoto shoots a stream of fire into Stain's face. Tenya and Shoto's additional attacks finally cause Stain to lose consciousness, defeating him. Tenya and Izuku land safely onto the ground thanks to Shoto's ice ramp. Shoto decides to tie up Stain with Izuku suggesting that they remove Stain's weapons.

Izuku, Shoto, Tenya and Native leave the alley with the unconscious restrained Stain in tow. Tenya offers to pull Stain but Shoto tells Tenya that his arms are in bad shape. After Gran Torino and Endeavor's sidekicks arrive, Tenya apologizes for his un-heroic actions with Izuku saying that he is also sorry for overlooking his pain, causing the speedy teenager to burst into tears; Shoto tells Tenya to pull himself together because he is the Class President, with Tenya complying. Out of the blue, the winged Nomu-like creature grabs Izuku; suddenly, Stain wakes up and defeats the winged Nomu-like creature while saving Izuku in the process.[37]

Tenya cries

Tenya apologizes for all the trouble he has caused.

After Endeavor arrives, Stain's bandaged mask falls off and reveals his true face, shocking Izuku. Stain walks forward and declares that the only one who is allowed to kill him is All Might, unleashing a bloody malefic aura in the process. Tenya falls to his knees out of fear, along with several other heroes.[38] After Stain loses consciousness for the last time, Tenya becomes shocked that Stain is still standing. Tenya, along with Izuku and Shoto are taken to the Hosu General Hospital to have their wounds treated.

The next day at Hosu General Hospital, the recuperating Izuku states to Shoto and Tenya that it is a miracle that they are still alive as Stain could probably have killed them if he wanted to. Shoto praises Tenya for his bravery but Tenya admits that he doesn't deserve any praise. The Chief of Hosu Police, Kenji Tsuragamae arrives and tells Izuku, Shoto and Tenya that the Hero Killer is undergoing treatment. He states that Izuku, Shoto and Tenya acted on their own without the supervision of their superiors and as such violated the rules, thus they along with their superiors (Gran Torino, Endeavor and Manual due to their negligence) will be given punishment.

Chief Kenji Thanks Students

The Police Chief thanks the students.

Shoto becomes furious that Kenji expected them to follow the rules and let people die as a result. Izuku, Gran Torino and Tenya stop Shoto. However, Kenji states that there were limited witnesses and as a result there will not be any punishment for Izuku, Shoto and Tenya but they won't be receiving any praise either from the public as the events that occurred yesterday will be covered up.

Tenya apologizes to Manual but Manual criticizes Tenya for his actions, asking him to never do it again. Tenya along with Izuku and Shoto thank the Chief of Hosu Police for not punishing them. Kenji states that Tenya along with Izuku and Shoto have a promising future and thanks them for their heroic actions.[39]

The next day of the newspapers publication of Stain's defeat, Izuku returns to the room where Tenya says his physical examination reveals that his left hand's fingers won't move properly, although a surgery will fix the damage. Tenya states that until he becomes a true Hero, he will leave his left hand in its injured state as a reminder of his un-heroic actions during the encounter with the Hero Killer; he will only undergo the surgery when he become a true Hero.

Tenya's injured arms

His wounds on his arms will be a reminders that will help him to be a better hero.

Izuku thinks that apologizing would have little effect and sees that Tenya realizes his mistake. Tenya and Mashirao prepare to run to the gate

Because Power Loader is constantly digging through the ground, Tenya and Mashirao can barely move because the ground collapses in front of them. Tenya decides their best course of action would be to escape. Mashirao gets on Tenya's back. Tenya activates Recipro Burst and outruns the traps. When the ground in front of him collapses, Tenya leaps over it.

Mashirao wraps his tail around Tenya's leg and the latter uses Recipro Extend to send Mashirao towards the escape gate, avoiding Power Loader's attempt to stop them. The team passes the practical test.[45]

Tenya's family was invited to I-Island's I-Expo, but only Tenya went as his family was busy. Tenya ran at a high speed to remind Denki and Minoru not to slack off, and see that some of his classmates, including Izuku and Ochaco, have come to I-Island as well. He explains that he was the only one from his family to be able to attend the expo.

Izuku notices an explosion nearby, so the group heads over and finds a Villain Attack attraction, where Eijiro and Katsuki were participating in. Irritated by Izuku's presence, Katsuki blasts over in his direction and makes a scene, causing Tenya to reprimand him. Tenya and Ochaco praise Izuku's performance in the attraction, annoying Katsuki further. Tenya is once again forced to restrain Katsuki before he could elevate the situation when he confronted Shoto, who is also revealed to be on I-Island.

Tenya asking Katsuki not to make a fuss

Tenya asking Katsuki not to make a fuss.

Melissa invites Class 1-A to a reception party, and Tenya reminds everyone to arrive by 6:30 PM. Much to Tenya's dismay, several of his classmates arrive late, and Katsuki and Eijiro don't show up at the intended location, so he scolds them. Little by little everyone is arriving at the reception, but suddenly the I-Island security system sets off an alarm and locks down the entire island, leaving Class 1-A stuck inside the central tower.

They later learn that the villain Wolfram is keeping the island hostage, so Tenya suggests that they escape since they cannot legally fight villains yet. Melissa Shield tells them that they cannot escape because I-Island's security system is on par with that of Tartarus, and the students remain silent until Izuku says that he wants to save everyone.

U.A

Class 1-A is ready to save I-Island.

They devise a plan to disable the security system so that All Might can deal with the villains. They scale up over fifty floors until they stop at a closed shutter on the 80th floor. Minoru opens the door to the main floor, notifying their presence to the villains. Tenya and Shoto break through and create an opening to the plant factory just in time before the shutter doors close them off from both ends of the corridor.

They hide after noticing the elevator coming up, and see two villains coming out to find the students. However, they instead find Katsuki and Eijiro, who got lost. The villains attack the two, but Shoto saves them with an ice wall. He creates an ice pillar to elevate his friends up to the top, where they find a small roof panel that leads to the maintenance room, and convince Minoru to help out. He succeeds, and the group advances past the one hundredth floor.

Recipro Burst (Two Heroes)

Tenya uses Recipro Burst on the security bots.

They notice that the shutters are closed and deduce that the villains are trying to lead them somewhere, which turns out to be a swarm of security bots on the one hundred and thirtieth floor. The group executes their Plan A, which fails as the bots are resistant to Denki's Indiscriminate Shock 1.3 Million Volts, so they go with Plan B and disrupt their communication systems with smoke bombs made by Momo.

Tenya and Izuku pushes back the robots and the group moves on. On the one hundred and thirty-eighth floor, the groups find security bots in the server room, and, because they cannot afford to damage the servers, Izuku, Melissa, and Ochaco continue ahead while the rest fight the bots.

Tenya, Eijiro, and Minoru encourage Izuku

Tenya, Eijiro, and Minoru cheer on Izuku.

They are soon freed after Melissa disabled the security system. They run up and motivate All Might to free himself from Wolfram, and cheer as Izuku and All Might use a Double Detroit Smash to defeat the villain. Tenya is later seen with the rest of Class 1-A after the expo opens.[48]

The next day after the shopping trip at U.A., Shota informs Class 1-A that the destination for their lodge trip has been changed and the new destination will only be announced on the day of the event. The first semester has come to a close and summer break has begun.[49]

A day prior to summer break, Izuku invites Tenya and all the boys of Class 1-A to the pool for endurance training. The boys take a break after a intense training lead by Tenya. During which, Izuku and Tenya remember their path to becoming friends with one another. Katsuki abruptly arrives and challenges Izuku to a fight. After finishing, they both notice Shoto. All three of them once again vow to become the heroes they wish to be. The final race between Izuku, Katsuki, and Shoto is about to start, with Tenya as the referee. Before they can begin, though, Shota arrives and kick all the students out of the pool area.[50]

Students vs the Earth Beast

Tenya and his classmates defeat the dirt beast.

On the day of the event, Class 1-A boards a bus that will take them to the forest lodge destination. An hour later, Class 1-A's bus stops for a restroom break. There, they meet Pixie-Bob and Mandalay, two members of the Wild, Wild Pussycats, who challenge the students to reach base camp past the forest in three hours. Then, all Class 1-A is forcibly thrown into the Beast's Forest by Pixie-Bob's Quirk, which they must traverse to reach their destination.

Suddenly, Class 1-A are confronted by a beast; Koji tries using his Quirk to control the beast but it does not work due to the beast being made out of dirt. Tenya, along with Shoto, Katsuki, and Izuku, mobilize and use their Quirks to destroy the dirt beast.[49]

Class 1-A begins traversing the Beast's Forest, destroying any dirt monster that faces them. However, the journey through the forest to the Cabin takes around about eight hours. Class 1-A arrive at the facility, battered and tired. Pixie-Bob takes a liking to Izuku, Tenya, Shoto, and Katsuki.

She points out that Izuku, Shoto, Tenya, and Katsuki did especially well for taking quick action against the first of her Earth Beasts and concludes that they have experienced action against villains. After Kota punches Izuku in his crotch, Tenya goes to check on Izuku and admonishes Kota for his actions. However, Kota harshly replies that he doesn't want to be with wannabe heroes and Tenya is taken aback by Kota's lack of respect.

Class 1-A fetch their luggage and put it in their rooms, Class 1-A head to the dining hall and have dinner; they enjoy the delicious food that the Pussycats provide them. After finishing dinner, Class 1-A goes to the hot springs. At the hot springs, Tenya orders Minoru to stop with his perverted ways, but Minoru ignores him and begins scaling up the wall, only to fall down courtesy of Kota.

The next day at 5:30 AM, Class 1-A is seen outside the training camp cabin. Shota greets his students and tells them that they will undergo reinforcement training to strengthen and upgrade their Quirks. Tenya's training consists of doing long training runs to increase his leg strength and stamina. That night, after the students are tasked with making curry for dinner, Tenya sees this as survival skill training and motivates the students to make the most delicious curry in the world.[51]

Tiger prepares to face the Villains

Tiger orders the students to evacuate area.

After another day of intense training, Tenya prepares to participate in a courage test organized by the Pussycats. However, before he has the opportunity to participate, the Vanguard Action Squad of the League of Villains invade the place that night, attacking the students and tutors. One of them, Spinner, is a devotee of Stain's ideals and recognizes Tenya as the one who brought Stain's terror to an end, and unsheathes his sword as he claims to make Stain's dreams a reality. Mandalay decides to deal of him, she tells the Class 1-A students who are not participating in the test to leave and orders Tenya to take the lead. As Tenya leads his classmates away, Izuku tells Tenya to go on ahead as he informs Mandalay about the villains' objective.[52]

Tenya, along with Mashirao, Minoru, and Koji, arrive at the facility, where they see Shota holding Dabi, who disintegrates after receiving great damage. Shota orders the students to go into the facility, while he heads into the forest himself.[53]

Vlad King protects the students

Vlad King protects the students.

Once inside, Tenya and the rest wait until they receive a telepathic message from Mandalay, in which she says that Shota has authorized the students to use their Quirks to defend themselves. Eijiro asks Vlad King to allow them to fight, and Tenya supports him, saying that not knowing how many enemies there are, it would be better to have as many people fighting as they can. Vlad King refuses and prevents the students in the building from fighting, explaining that only the students in the woods have permission to fight with Quirks because they need to defend themselves. At that moment, they are attacked by a copy of Dabi, but Vlad protects them and quickly defeats the copy. Shota arrives and destroys the clone of Dabi, saying to Vlad King that the villain is only aiming to distract the pro-heroes.

Despite the efforts of the teachers and students, the League manages to kidnap Katsuki, and leave the forest, leaving several students injured.[54]

Eijiro argues with Tenya

Eijiro argues with Tenya.

Two days later after the League of Villains' attack on the training camp is over, Tenya visits Izuku who is in hospital. Tenya informs Izuku about Toru, Kyoka Jiro, and Momo's conditions. After Eijiro and Shota explain about a transmitter being planted on a villain by Momo and Yosetsu, Tenya deduces that Eijiro wants Momo to create a device for themselves so that Class 1-A can track down and rescue Katsuki themselves.

Tenya demands that the rescue of Katsuki be left to the Pro Heroes, but Eijiro is tired of being unable to do anything that will make him a Hero and a friend, causing them to get into an argument. After being calmed down by Denki and Tsuyu, although fully aware that the matter should be dealt by professionals, Eijiro encourages Izuku to go through with the plan as it will allow him to reach and save Katsuki. Izuku gives Tenya a pleading look, but Tenya is hesitant as he knows fully well about the consequences they will face.[55]

Despite Izuku knowing that breaking the rules is against the law, Tenya punches Izuku in the face. Frustrated that they are not taking his concerns, feelings, and worries into consideration; Tenya says that he doesn't want to see Izuku or any of them end up with severe injuries.

The disguised group exits the clothing shop and observes a video clip of U.A.'s public apology.[57]

They continue towards the place that Momo's tracking device is detecting. After waiting for a while near the place, Momo notes that the villains have made no movements and states the possibility of Katsuki not being in the place while Tenya reminds them that if he sees any combat, then he will not hesitate to stop them. Izuku thanks Tenya Afterwards, they prepare to infiltrate the supposed League of Villains' hideout; Tenya, although he respect Izuku's determination, will not hesitate to stop Izuku if there is combat because it is his turn to protect him.[58]

Izuku attempts to move in order to save Katsuki who was teleported to their location. However, Tenya stops Izuku from making his move, serious in his resolve to protect Izuku and the rest of the group.[61]

As the battle between All Might, All For One, Katsuki, and the League of Villains continues, Izuku comes up with an idea. Tenya tries to oppose, but Izuku says that the plan won't involve fighting and that it will enable them to rescue Katsuki and escape. However, the entire plan rests on Eijiro because Katsuki will respond to him due to the friendship they have built up during their time at U.A.. Tenya understands that the plan is a gamble, but considering the situation, there won't be much risk due to All Might's presence.

He also knows that the rest of Class 1-A, except Katsuki, Toru, and Kyoka, also knew about their plans, but did nothing to persuade them. Mei forces Tenya to equip her electric boosters.

Following the recommendations of Shota, Tenya, Izuku, and Ochaco head to the Development Studio for a costume upgrade. Tenya wants an upgrade to his radiator to help keep his engines cool. There, they meet again with Mei, who causes problems to the three students with her inventions. When Tenya asks Power Loader for cooling capabilities for his legs, Mei gives him arm engines, sending him into the ceiling. Mei's argument in favor of this baby is that Tenya can run with his arms while his legs cool off. Mei's suggestion makes Izuku realize he can use his legs for combat if his arms are so vulnerable to excessive use of One For All. He asks Tenya for advices on how to use the legs for combat. Tenya's advice allows Izuku to develop Full Cowl - Shoot Style.[70]

On the day where the Hero Qualification Exam starts, Class 1-A arrives at the test location, along with several other classes from other hero schools. Shortly after the exam starts, the first part of the exam involves thinning out the number of people who can succeed by playing a game, where people put three marks on their body and are given six balls to throw at the other examinee's marks. Tenya explains that he's already found some of Class 1-A and he's trying to have all of them regroup. Yuga proposes that they might have already passed while Tenya is searching. As the class president, Tenya would be happy for his classmates if that were the case. He asks that he and Yuga work together to pass.

However, they find themselves in the middle of several students from different schools ready to take them out. As Yuga thinks that the situation is bad, Tenya saves Yuga from a stray bullet and tells him not to give up. Tenya tells Yuga that as long as he is able he will do his best to serve his class, just as his brother would do and that his actions follow his dreams. Inspired by Tenya's self-sacrifice, Yuga shoots his navel laser upwards. He already has two of his targets lit up and does not want Tenya to go down with him, so he decides to use himself as bait to draw in the enemy so Tenya can hide and ambush them. Yuga explains that he's always wanted to be equal.

The fact that they play a villain and a hero role at the same time causes Tenya to have an indefinite crisis, having Momo to reassure him by telling him to just consider himself a hero.

The teachers begin the exercise afterward. Each class chooses lots to split into five teams of four. As the teams are set, Tenya is placed with Mashirao Ojiro, Mezo and Shoto, and they will face Class B's team of Pony Tsunotori, Sen Kaibara, Juzo Honenuki and Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu at Round 3.[87]

Tenya's team discuss the plan for their match

Tenya's Team prepare a strategy for their round.

After Momo's group lost, Tenya's group waited for their turn as repairs were made to the area for their turn. During their meeting, Tenya tells them about the fact that he has improved his Quirk.[88]

Before his team headed out into the arena, Tenya catches Shoto's attention when he is lost in thought and relates to him on representing his brother, Tensei. Tenya briefly reflects on his brother's recovery from the hospital before telling Shoto they have to do their best as the latter agreed and they went out to battle. As the two teams get ready to start, Tenya watches as Shoto tells his team that their opponents will likely turn this into a head-on battle.[89]

Tenya and the rest of his team run towards their opponents, who are still unsure of what move the 1-A team will make. Shoto blasts them and freezes all four of the Class 1-B students with a giant ice wall. After Shoto's attack, Tenya uses Recipro Burst to run towards Tetsutetsu after waiting for the ice to slow down his movements. However, Juzo is able to free his team from Shoto's ice using his Softening Quirk.

Recipro Turbo

Recipro Turbo!

Released from Shoto's ice, members of Team B attack Class A. Tenya tries to escape, but finds himself trying to run on top of pipes that Juzo has softened. Tenya loses his footing and falls into the frozen ground, which also was softened and turned into mud pit. Juzo claims Tenya is hard to deal with so he allow him to sink and re-harden the ice around him, trapping him. Juzo claims it was foolish for Tenya to use Recipro Burst so early in the match. Tenya argues that Juzo is underestimating him and activates his upgrade technique: Recipro Turbo![90]

Thanks to Tensei's advice gave him short after Provisional Hero License Exam, Tenya tuned his engines to increase his horsepower while decreasing fuel consumption. Now Tenya can go beyond his limits for ten minutes. However, Tenya can't quite control himself and doesn't land a clean hit on Juzo. Even so, Juzo retreats by softening the ground into a liquid and swimming away within it. With Juzo out of the picture for now, Tenya moves out to find his other teammates.

Ingenium stops Spiral's attack (Anime)

Ingenium saves Mashirao.

He first helps Mashirao, who is having problems dealing with Sen and his Gyrate Quirk. Before Sen defeats Mashirao, Tenya speeds past, capturing Sen and running off to put him in jail. Sen is upset with Tenya for interrupting one-on-one fight, to which Tenya replies that his brother would have done the same, and that if he is to do this in the real world as a Hero, he must do it in training too. Tenya knows that saving people is more important than defeating the enemy.[91]

Elsewhere, Tetsutetsu fights against Shoto. Although Shoto begins to use increasingly hot flames to get rid of him, Tetsutetsu keeps attacking and pressuring him, despite showing symptoms of fatigue and risk of melting. Shoto is about to perform a counterattack when Juzo interrupts their fight and softens the ground so that Shoto sinks, then hardens the ground once again after debris falls on Shoto, trapping him.

Ingenium saves Shoto from Mudman

Tenya saves Shoto from Mudman.

Shoto slowly loses consciousness but, out of the blue, Tenya appears and delivers a powerful kick to Juzo's head, destroying half of his mask. Tenya apologizes to Shoto for being late and carries his unconscious body away. Tetsutetsu says that he won't let them get away. Tenya has a flashback to the time he fought Hero Killer: Stain along with receiving wisdom from his brother. He yells that he will abstain from villains and that saving comes first.

Juzo laments allowing Tenya to run freely and resolves to make up for his mistakes. Juzo refuses to let his team lose because of his mistake, and softens a large metal tower before yelling to Tetsutetsu to push it over. Tenya tries to run away at full speed while carrying Shoto, but both get crushed by the building and get knocked out. At the same time, both Juzo and Tetsutetsu also collapse and are out cold.[92]

Tenya, Shoto, Juzo and Tetsutetsu are down

Tenya, Shoto, Juzo, and Tetsutetsu incapacitated.

Four competitors are down. Shoto, Tetsutetsu, and Juzo are all unconscious and Tenya trapped. He attempts to break free from the softened substance but can't due to his limbs being trapped under the tower. Tenya regrets not having been able to arrive earlier to help Shoto. Meanwhile, Vlad King comments on how Sen Kaibara's efforts to slow down Tenya during the match was effective enough to halt his progress

The battle continues with the remaining members of both teams, ending in a tie after Pony captured Mashirao and levitates herself high above the field with her unconscious teammates until time runs out. Everyone is taken to Recovery Girl's office and post-match critique is slated for later. Ochaco feels sorry for Tenya but Izuku claims he did very well in the battle.

At the office, Tenya apologizes to Shoto and says they could've won if he had been faster, but Shoto claims he was the one who slowed the team down and reflects on overusing his ice power compared to his flames. The two students vow to become Heroes who can put everyone to ease and rush to anyone who needs it. Juzo interrupts their chat and admits the flames and Recipro are hard to deal with. He wants to practice and asks both his rivals for a rematch. They agree and Recovery Girl kicks them all out of her office.[93]

My Hero Academia: Heroes: Rising[]

Tenya helps Ms

Tenya helps Ms. Sato.

During fall, the Hero Public Safety Commission devises the Hero Work Recommendation Project, to help to train the new generation of Heroes due All Might retirement. Weeks go by, and shortly after winter begins, after the Hero Interview Training, Class 1-A is sent to Nabu Island, a remote place in southern Japan. The Pro Heroes who protected the island are about to retire, so the students will take care of the place, performing duties as real heroes acting like their own "Hero Office", until the arrival of new Pro Heroes.

Because Nabu Island is quite isolated from the rest of the country, and therefore far from any villain activity, there has been no notable incident since the last thirty years. For this reason, their work on the island basically involve mostly minor deeds. Tenya is in the office taking request when Momo tells him that one of the neighbors, Mrs. Sato, has suffered a sprain. Tenya immediately leaves to help the elderly woman and quickly takes her to the island hospital.

Tenya organizes teams to counter the threat

Tenya organizes his classmates against the villains.

At night, all Class A members mention that despite they only did minor deeds, this kind of hero work is still hard, even though they're not fighting anyone. However, the island citizens are thankful, and they bring a bunch of food for the kids to eat at the Hero Agency. Tenya asks some of his classmates for some decorum due to their excitement over food, and thanks the neighbors for their supplies.

The next day, while Tenya and several Class 1-A students wait in the office waiting for a request, a neighbor and Fumikage arrive to report that the island is being attacked by a group of villains. Tenya quickly organize the class to face this crisis. He, Shoto, Hanta, Rikido and, Fumikage will intercept the villain at the beach as Ochaco and Koji Koda assist with the evacuation of the tourists and residents.

Tenya stops Shoto

Tenya stops Shoto from chasing Chimera alone.

Once there, they fight Chimera, but despite outnumbering him, the villain is superior to the students. Chimera continues fighting the students until he sees a flare in the sky. This was a sign from his allies indicating that he must withdraw. Chimera obeys the order and leaves. Shoto wants to chase him, but Tenya stops him by saying that if they couldn't defeat him outnumbering him, trying to face him alone is very dangerous, plus they must prioritize population safety

At night, the students retreat to a factory to heal their wounds and provide first aid to the inhabitants of the island. Tenya helps refugees and reassures them by ensuring Class 1-A protects them from villains. Later, they have a meeting where they discover that the objective of the villain leader, Nine, is to steal the Cell Activation Quirk from a boy named Katsuma Shimano. With this information, they devise a plan to approach them in front and keep civilians safe. The plan is to lure the villains to the furthest corner of the island where ancient castle ruins are.

Tenya, Eijiro, Shoto and Tsuyu ready to face Chimera

Tenya, Eijiro, Shoto, and Tsuyu stand against the villain.

The next morning, Nine and his crew arrive at the entrance to the island. When the students see the villains approaching, they put their plan into action. Yuga Aoyama and Momo start attacking them from afar with their respective Quirks at full power. While Nine blocks the attack with his Air Wall Quirk, his allies break away from the blast. Chimera runs dodging the cannon shots, but a shot explodes near him and launches him off a cliff, though he lands unscathed near a waterfall. Here, Tenya, Shoto, Eijiro, and Tsuyu ambush him

Along with Eijiro, Tenya attacks him with a series of kicks and punches but Chimera blocks all his attacks easily until he feels his body feels paralyzed. The students reveal that Tsuyu has covered their arms and legs with a special toxic mucus that she had secreted with her Frog Quirk. Chimera uses his Quirk to transform himself, becoming bigger and more powerful and nullifying the toxin, and start attacking the four students.

Tenya protects Shoto from Chimera

Tenya protects Shoto from Chimera.

Pinned by Chimera, Shoto devises a plan: they need their companions to distract the villain and help him get closer to him so that he can use his Ice powers at full potential to freeze Chimera. All of them agree to put the plan into action. Chimera manages to defeat Tsuyu, Eijiro and Tenya, knock them out, but thanks to their efforts the plan works, and Shoto freeze the villain before passing out from the cold temperatures in his body.

While they are unconscious after the battle, Izuku and Katsuki manage to defeat Nine, saving the island and its inhabitants in the process. After Class 1-A emerged victorious over the threat, the military and a large number of heroes arrive on Nabu Island, rescuing the civilians and medically treating Class 1-A. The villains are arrested, and Class 1-A continues to stay on Nabu Island to help repair the damage done by Nine and his villains until the Public Safety Commission suspends the program and orders them to be sent home. With the island being repaired by the military and the heroes, Class 1-A boards a ferry to return to the U.A. High School.[94]

Tenya during the evacuations

Tenya has to scold Katsuki when he complains about not being in the front line.[103][104] The evacuation of the city proceeds without any problem, although Tenya wants to be sure that everyone is safe. He suggests to his teammates that they should check each building to ensure nobody has been left behind in senior homes and apartments.

The hero tries to warn him of the danger that Tomura's decay poses from to those who cannot fly, but Tenya is already too far away to hear him.

Nejire asks him why he is coming with the deployed group, as the Heroes that were deployed are ones capable of flight. Tenya says that he is prepared to accept whatever punishment awaits him for violating orders but the reason he is joining them is because Izuku, Katsuki, and Shoto haven't returned and two of them taught him a valuable lesson; they are his dear friends because of it.[109]

Tenya arrives to help his classmates

Tenya arrives to help in the fight against Tomura.

Tenya and Nejire reach the battlefield where Izuku and the others are fighting Tomura. Shoto asks him to get the injured out of the area as Tenya sees why they didn't come back before. For his part, Izuku asks Tenya to take care of Katsuki and Endeavor and leave him there because Tomura is still after him and his Quirk.

As he carries Katsuki away while Shoto and Nejire fight Tomura, Gigantomachia finally arrives carrying Dabi, Spinner, Mr. Compress and Skeptic on his back.[110] Upon arrival, the hulking villain attacks Shoto and Nejire to keep them away from Tomura, devastating the area. Tenya manages to get away in time with Katsuki in his arms, showing concern for Shoto and Nejire even though they managed to avoid the blow. A semi-conscious Katsuki orders him to put him down. He tells him that he can't because of how injured he is but Katsuki insists on achieving a perfect victory.

When Dabi is ready to attack, at that moment Best Jeanist appears after jumping from a plane that was flying over the area, which drops several containers with carbon fiber cables. Best Jeanist uses his Fiber Master Quirk to wrap all the League of Villains members.[112]

Dabi manages to free himself by burning the cables and blasts Nejire when she was about to strike Tomura, before facing Shoto. Tenya manages to grab her before she hits the ground, but Tomura briefly regains consciousness and orders Gigantomachia to break free. Best Jeanist struggles to prevent Gigantomachia from causing trouble, but several Near High-End Nomus arrive to attack him.

U.A

Luckily, Mirio appears and saves him,[113] and soon Tenya, Nejire, and Katsuki join him to protect Best Jeanist from the creatures. At that moment, Katsuki reveals to Best Jeanist that his hero name is "Great Explosion Murder God Dynamight". Tenya, like most, thinks it's an absurd name.[114]

Gigantomachia finally falls defeated after being hit by Endeavor, with an anesthetic that the other U.A. students made him swallow before finally starts to take effect on him. With the Giant out, Best Jeanist concentrates his efforts on the League of Villains, being protected from the Nomus by Tenya and the others.

Tenya kicks a Near High-End Nomu

Tenya does what he can to keep the Nomu at bay.

Tenya also makes sure to keep Katsuki safe, as he is having a hard time fighting due to his injuries. After preventing one of the Nomu from attacking him from behind, Tenya yells to Katsuki that he needs to retreat because he is in no condition to continue facing the creatures, something Katsuki is forced to admit to himself, though he continues protecting Best Jeanist.[115]

Unfortunately, Mr. Compress manages to free himself from the wires of best Jeanist and rescue Spinner and Tomura, as well compress Dabi and Skeptic.[116] While Mr. Compress tries to buy time for his allies, Spinner manages to wake up Tomura, although without knowing that it is the conscience of All For One who is controlling the body. The villain uses Radio Waves to blow all the heroes away, while also calling the remaining Near High-Ends for help.

Shoto and Tenya attack All For One-Tomura

Shoto and Tenya team up in one final attempt to stop "Tomura."

The Nomu arrive quickly and proceed to grab "Tomura" and Spinner to make their getaway. Best Jeanist attempts to restrain them with the cables, while Nejire, Tenya, and Mirio also try to stop them, but they fail, and "Tomura" manages to escape along with Spinner, a compressed Dabi and Skeptic, and a large number of Near High-End Nomu.[117]

With the flight of "Tomura", the war is over and the wounded are immediately sent to the Central Hospital to treat their wounds. Tenya is hardly injured after the conflict but several of his classmates and teachers must be admitted. Together with Ochaco and Tsuyu, he remains in front of the door where Izuku remains unconscious.

Katsuki is carried off by his classmates

Tenya is relieved knowing that Katsuki isn't as bad as he thought.

Two days later, Katsuki wakes up in his room and despite his condition, tries to see Izuku to aggressively ask him to wake up, having to be restrained and carried off by Tsuyu, Minoru, and Rikido. Tenya thanks Tsuyu for handling him, and he and Ochaco reflect on how things are back to normal for Katsuki, as Tenya feared for the worst due to his injuries. Kyoka arrives to tell Tenya about Fumikage and Denki also being cleared for release.

Then, Best Jeanist and Hawks arrive, as they want to talk to Izuku about a topic. Tenya informs them that All Might asked to be alone with him for now, causing Hawks to ponder.[118] After waiting a while, All Might leaves with Best Jeanist and Hawks so he can talk to them. Tenya, Ochaco, and Kyoka enter the room to see Izuku. Sometime afterwards, Tenya and the rest of Class 1-A resettle back to Heights Alliance where they receive a letter from Izuku explaining his origins as being Quirkless, and the history of "One For All" which makes him leave U.A. because he is Tomura and All For One's target.[119]

A few days after he left U.A., Tenya holds a meeting with Class 1-A and asks Katsuki, Shoto, and Fumikage if they can confirm their suspicions by contacting their respective mentors, but all three of them report that they refuse to respond, believing they are hiding something from them. Class 1-A deduce that Izuku and All Might are now working with the top three heroes, but need to find some way to confirm their suspicions.

Ochaco suggests taking advantage of Endeavor's U.A. alumni status to confront him, which is backed up by Nezu. After learning the truth from him, Endeavor is convinced of Class 1-A's dedication to Izuku and Tenya declares that as Class 1-A, they will follow Izuku wherever he goes, and no matter how much responsibility that comes with One For All, they consider him their friend, and they won't let him walk such a troublesome path all by himself.

After a month since he first left, Tenya and Class 1-A arrived on the scene to defeat Dictator during his battle with Izuku. Izuku asks why they are all here and insists that he is okay and that they shouldn't worry about him and leave, but they all refuse to leave him. When Izuku refuses to yield, he demands everyone to get out of his way, which means they might have to fight Izuku, with Tenya telling everyone else to stand strong.[120]

Episode 135

Tenya and the rest of the class prepare to face off against Izuku.

Class 1-A proceed to duel with Izuku as he attempts to escape them, while they try to restrain him so they can return him back to U.A. Tenya is coated in Mina's Acidman, with the heavy-hitters, including Mezo, Rikido, Koji, and Fumikage, pushing him and Katsuki forward as Shoto blasts the two up the ice ramp with his Flashfreeze Heatwave. Ochaco tags Katsuki and the Acidman with her Quirk, and then Katsuki blasts Tenya even further into the air at blinding speeds using his Explosive Speed: Cluster as the Acidman melts away.

Tenya reminds Izuku of his words

With sheer will and teamwork, Tenya successfully grabs Izuku.

With sheer speed, Tenya successfully grabs ahold of Izuku's hand, completely shocking him, still insisting for him to let go. Tenya refuses, stating that he is a hero who will always take a lost child by the hand, and repeating Izuku's words when he saved him from Stain that "giving help that's not asked for is what makes a true hero."[122]

Ochaco releases her Zero Gravity, causing Tenya and Izuku to fall toward the city. He wonders how he's going to stick the landing, when he sees Eijiro who manages to catch the both of them. Tenya and the rest of Class 1-A listen to Katsuki apologizing to Izuku before he finally collapses from the shock and exhaustion. Once Izuku is secured, they escort him safely back to a heavily fortified U.A High where they are confronted by protesting civilians.[123]

The civilians are distressed because they are aware that Tomura is targeting Izuku and him being there at U.A. will put them in danger too. Everyone tries to reassure them but to no avail, until Ochaco floats her way up to the top of the building, shouting down to everyone and giving an impassioned speech to let Izuku stay.[124] During the speech, Tenya and the class watch on in awe, with him telling Izuku that she is fighting for him and everyone's right to smile again, as he eventually tears up and breaks down in exhaustion.[125]

Refugees accept Izuku's return

Tenya helps escort Izuku back into U.A.

Kota Izumi and a mutant woman rush up to comfort him, with Tenya holding Minoru back from doing so, telling him it's not their turn yet. With all this, the civilians agree to let Izuku stay, and Tenya and the rest of the class proceed to escort him inside.[126] The boys immediately rush Izuku to the bath, stripping and washing him down before getting in themselves. Afterwards, Class 1-A is visited by All Might, where he and Izuku apologize and make up before he heads back out. With Izuku finally passing out and getting some rest, Class 1-A comes back together, as they declare they won't just bring the world back to how it was, but to make it a better place than before, and do it all together.[127]

U.A. Traitor Arc[]

Class A prepares to train

Tenya and Class 1-A prepare to train with each other.

Two days later, Class 1-A learn that during this time, Tomura had fought American No. 1 Hero, Star and Stripe, and while she was killed during the battle with Tomura successfully stealing her Quirk, New Order, thanks to her actions, the Quirk acted like a virus within his body, destroying several of his Quirks and delaying his procedure by about a week. All Might informs all this to the class, telling them that this is now their perfect time to prepare for the inevitable all-out war. The class reveals over the past month they had been training with the Wild, Wild Pussycats in order to keep up with Izuku in the incoming conflict, and are now about to head out to continue their training.[128]

The class train amongst themselves in the courtyard, where they discuss about their plans for the incoming conflict. Izuku says how they need to try and dictate how they enter the fight, and that he's going tor rejoin the search soon, before being reprimanded by Tenya, reminding him that "we" will be rejoining the search. Izuku then asks if he can go for a quick stroll, which Tenya says is okay as relations between the Heroes, students, and the evacuees have grown warmer since Ochaco's speech.[129]

Tenya in support of Yuga Aoyama

Tenya wants to give Yuga another chance.

Shortly after this, Tenya and the rest of the class receive the devastating news that Izuku had just captured the Aoyama Family, learning that they have been spies for All For One, and Yuga was the traitor who isolated the class at the U.S.J. and revealed the location of their training camp. Restraining them in the AV room, he and the other class members refuse to back down from the news despite Nezu's request, all in stunned and tears of Yuga's betrayal. He listens to Yuga's desperation that drove him to despair, followed by Izuku's pleading to let Yuga still help them.[130]

The rest of the class quickly realize that they could have Yuga help deceive All For One and "steer the villains" into the fight, and when questioned why they're so willing to trust him, Tenya simply responds that what happened is in the past, and with them being unable to realize how he's been feeling all this time, they carry some responsibility, so they must reach out to him as friends in order for them to become equals again.

Class A eager to take down All For One

Tenya and the others vow to bring All For One down.

Shota then appears on a tablet screen, taking full responsibility and reveals that he has an idea, which Class 1-A, the U.A. Staff, and Police Force hear while the Aoyama Family's ears have been covered. Naomasa then has the Aoyama Family escorted back to their HQ, telling everyone not to say a word to anyone else about the plan, while he and the rest of the class look on sullenly.

Back at Heights Alliance, Class 1-A take a breather, before getting ready to gear back up, as everyone, with fire and rage in their eyes over the betrayal, prepare to bring All For One down once and for all. Tenya and Izuku head to the Development Studio in order to fix up their hero costumes, when Izuku is suddenly caught in a very familiar explosion blast, which Tenya sees as "deja vu", soon spotting Mei Hatsume emerging from the smoke, landing directly on top of Izuku.[131]

Mei asks Izuku and Tenya what they need from her, with Izuku lamenting how his Danger Sense didn't activate. Tenya tells Mei they came looking for repairs for their Hero Costumes. Mei is confused why they don't just take them to the item agency, and Tenya responds that with recent disruption to the agencies, they have to rely on the support course. Mei's increasingly nonchalant reactions cause Izuku to realize that Mei has no idea what is going on outside.

Izuku is hit by an accidental explosion…again

Tenya has a feeling of deja vu.

Power Loader emerges from the explosions, inviting the students to see the new set-up in the Development Studio, revealing they are in charge of both developing and controlling the U.A. Barrier. Izuku hands Mei his Mid-Gauntlet, asking if she can fix it for him, but she immediately says no, due to how damaged it is and not having the available materials. Tenya then asks for repairs for his armor, but just as quickly she shuts him down due to not having a spec sheet. Two of her classmates approach the two saying they'll make it for them.

Tenya is surprised that Mei would turn down the offer due to how much she loves making things, as they look on to see her currently working on the evacuation shelter blocks. Power Loader tells them that Mei was brought on to help strengthen the barrier, and she's been busy creating new mechanisms in case of mass evacuation. Power Loader compliments her inventive mind, and she responds with how she always needs to try think up new "babies" to improve themselves.

Mei gives Izuku and Tenya their latest upgrades

Mei throws at Tenya's face his piece of armor.

After Mei tells Izuku about how even she is aware of the trouble Heroes are facing now, and that inventing stuff is how the support course does heroics, she suddenly throws a pair of Air Force Gloves attached to new make-shift Gauntlets right at his face, saying that she couldn't make an exact copy but it's the best she can do. She proceeds to throw a new piece of armor for Tenya right at his face too, exasperating the support students that she did it all so fast. She concludes saying for them to tell the rest of the hero students that they'll all win this.

Outside, Izuku and Tenya meet up with the rest of Class 1-A and Mt. Lady, who reminds them that even after learning what they just dealt with, their main objective is tracking down and eliminating the remnants of the villains and they must do it all without haste. Following Izuku, the Class 1-A Search Squad assembles and heads out.[132]

Class 1-A taking a break from their efforts

Tenya recommends his classmates to rest.

Later that night, Class 1-A returns to Heights Alliance, unable to find any information about the villains' whereabouts, to take a break from their search efforts, feeling incredibly tired. Tenya advises everyone to get some rest as soon as possible, when All Might, Naomasa, and Nezu arrive into the droms, informing them all about their secret finalized plans for the upcoming Second War.

The next day, Nezu announces to the civilians that Tomura will make his big move in 4 days, with Class 1-A moving outside of the U.A. barrier to begin prioritizing their safety. Tenya says goodbye to his family members one last time before heading out. The class proceeds to move into the upgraded makeshift fortress called "Troy". After unpacking, Tenya, Katsuki, and Eijiro go to visit Shoto to comfort him regarding Dabi, with Tenya offering his support as someone who also has an older brother.[133]

Final War Arc[]

U.A

Tenya enters through the Warp Gate to confront All For One and his army of villains.

The plan is revealed to be, utilizing Hitoshi Shinso's Brainwashing, they will brainwash Yuga and his parents when they contact All For One, allowing them to deceive him without him being able to detect any malicious intent, luring him to a specific area. Then, using Neito Monoma copying Kurogiri's Warp Gate, they will summon several portals which will not only warp the Heroes to the battlefield to surprise the villains, but also to create portals which they will use to send the major threats all over Japan and split them up.

On the day of the operation, All For One and the villains are successfully drawn out by Izuku and Yuga, with the Heroes and then Class 1-A themselves warped to the battlefield soon after. Before the fighting can truly start, the "Troy" defense system is activated, trapping many villains in cages from beneath the battlefield.[134]

The villains are able to quickly escape, but were delayed long enough for the Heroes to push the villains into their respective portals. Tenya joins the team consisting of Shoto, the Flaming Sidekickers, and several other Heroes, to end up in Kamino to face against Dabi.[135]

Tenya can't stay near Dabi's flames

Tenya can't get close to helping Shoto due to Dabi's fire.

Dabi proceeds to completely burn everyone down in a fire tornado, accompanied by a Near High-End Nomu, which dwindles down the accompanying Heroes. Tenya, meanwhile, is forced to stand outside the fire tornado, noting the incredible heat and how he can't get any closer or his Engine will overheat, while Dabi is confronted by Shoto, Burnin, Kido, and Onima.[136]

Tenya continues to evade throughout the battle as Dabi unleashes his Flashfire Fist: Hell Spider to send a wide array of fire spirals all outside the tornado. The Heroes try to avoid it, recognizing it as Endeavor's move, with Tenya noticing it as thicker and more haphazard, causing him to worry about Shoto. Nonetheless, Shoto is able to overcome Dabi's burning hot blue flames and defeats him with Great Glacial Aegir Ultimate Move.[137]

Tenya cheers up Shoto

Tenya congratulates his classmate on his victory.

With Dabi defeated, the Heroes cheer over Shoto's success, having taken care of all the accompanying villains, and resolve to finish off the last threat in the vicinity, being the Near High-End Nomu. Tenya goes to help Shoto while several other Heroes deal with Dabi. Shoto apologizes for messing up Tenya's Engines with his attack, with him telling his classmate he has nothing to apologize for.[138]

However, unbeknownst to him, Dabi managed to copy Shoto's Phosphor right before he covered him in ice. Tenya and Shoto then watch in horror as Dabi begins to scorch both Kido and Onima alive, all the while revealing to him how he copied his technique.[139]

Dabi's inferno continues to endlessly increase and consume the city. Tenya tries to hold Shoto back, telling him his Phosphor move took too much out of him, but Shoto can't believe that despite everyone surpassing their limits to fight, Dabi is the only one still standing. Dabi then prepares to fly himself directly toward Endeavor's location, when he's suddenly enveloped in a Warp Gate and teleported there.[140] Despite Dabi's disappearance and the inferno still around them, Shoto declares it is not over yet, supported by Tenya, both unaware that Stain is observing their determination from afar.[141]

Stain observes Shoto and Tenya in Kamino

Tenya helps Shoto get back into the fight.

Because of how much Phosphor took a toll on his body, Tenya tells Shoto he hasn't recovered from using it yet, but he insists he's fine, yelling that All For One is about to reach Izuku and he can still fight. Tenya continues to speak about how he can only imagine the thoughts in his head having to fight his brother, wondering why this must be his emotional burden to bear, especially after all he has done and shown to him.

Just then, the two receive a call in their communicators from All Might, telling them to run to Gunga as he informs them of even worse news. They learn that ever since Shoto defeated Dabi, he has been internally compressing thermal energy inside of his body, and continues to compress even more. With all of his Blueflames building up, in about ten minutes, his body will explode and cremate everything within 5 kilometers in a massive nuclear blast. In addition, several of the U.A. evacuation blocks are trapped directly within the blast radius.

Maximum Speed

Tenya holds Shoto tight as he uses Maximum Speed to blast themselves to Gunga.

All Might warns them about all this, telling Tenya to he knows he can handle running there, and telling Shoto that he knows his mind and body are one. After saying that a "powerful ally" is waiting to deal with All For One, All Might continues telling the two that he has the utmost respect to those who still continue to fight even with doubts, telling them to stop Dabi and reassure everyone, and that they need the two of them and their Quirks together to avert the disaster.

Initially, Shoto is worried that Tenya's unable to run all the way to Gunga since his Engine was stalled, but he simply responds that the rain cooled his Engines off, reminding Shoto his legs exist to guide wayward children. Tenya puts his mask and armor on Shoto as he blasts off at his Maximum Speed while carrying Shoto across the city to reach the location.[142]

Chapter 390

Tenya and Shoto rapidly approach Dabi's inferno.

On their way to the battlefield, Dabi's internal combustion is starting to take into effect as the villain's body implodes into an inferno sphere that starts to expand outwards, causing everyone to retreat from the blast zone. Shoto creates a makeshift fighter jet made out of ice and powered by Tenya's Engine, using the ice to minimize their drag and Shoto's heat to reduce friction. Shoto reactivates his Phosphor once again while the rest of Tenya's armor starts to blast off him as they rush to Dabi in minutes away from his nuclear explosion.[143]

As Tenya's Engine begins to reach its limit, he tells Shoto it is as far as he can take him, which Shoto thanks him for. Utilizing Phosphor, the two combine their abilities for one final burst of speed. Tenya's Engine finally gives out and his mufflers explode after surpassing their limits, causing him to crash to the ground. Regardless, Tenya yells out to Shoto, thanking him for helping him become who he wants to be, so he needs to make it happen for him too. Shoto is flung forward, and begins to run toward the fiery inferno sphere, successfully unleashing his Great Glacial Aegir, consuming the inferno in his ice and saving everyone.[144]

With his mufflers destroyed, Tenya can only lay there and realizes the danger isn't over yet, as he senses the threat of the rapidly increasing Double ocean approaching his way.[145] By the time he was able to stand up, it was too late as the ocean of Doubles reached his location in the city, having decimated everything in its path. Just as he is about to be attacked, thanks to Ochaco and the Heroes, the ocean of Doubles disintegrate into air, as Tenya watches up close.[146]
