Shock Absorption (ショック (きゅう) (しゅう) Shokku Kyūshū?) is one of the Quirks used by the U.S.J. Nomu.

Description[]

As described by Tomura Shigaraki, Shock Absorption gives the user the ability to reduce the effectiveness of physical blows by absorbing the shocks produced by them, allowing them to cancel out many attacks.[1]

Weaknesses[]

This Quirk does not give the user the ability to completely nullify blows, meaning there is a limit to how much punishment the user can withstand.[2] Tomura even stated that the primary method to overcome this power is to slowly lacerate the user.[1]

Usage[]

All Might defeats Nomu with a blow so powerful that it cannot be stopped by Shock Absorption.

The U.S.J. Nomu was created to destroy All Might by matching his strength, with this power being specifically given to him to negate All Might's attacks, including fully powered One For All smashes. Nomu first demonstrates this during the U.S.J. Incident while fighting All Might by absorbing his Carolina Smash along with a few other attacks.[1] However, after All Might deduces that the Quirk only absorbs shocks instead of nullifying them, he goes beyond his normal 100% output, slowly overcoming Shock Absorption's limit until he eventually lands one final blow that blasts Nomu miles away from the Unforeseen Simulation Joint.[2]

Trivia[]

  • Shock Absorption is similar to Flect Turn's Reflect Quirk, with both of them granting the ability to withstand powerful blows unscathed. Coincidentally, both Quirks are overpowered by a user of the One For All Quirk (All Might and Izuku Midoriya, respectively).
