Salaam (サラーム Sarāmu?) is the top Egyptian Pro Hero in My Hero Academia: World Heroes' Mission.

Appearance[]

Salaam is a brown-skinned man with a two dimensional appearance, similar to human representations in ancient Egyptian art.

His hero costume is clearly inspired by the garments that the pharaohs of ancient Egypt used to wear, wearing a wraparound skirt called shendyt, a top of fine pleated robes, and covers his head with a striped headcloth called nemes. He also wears various jewelry items and a cape.

Personality[]

Not much is known about his personality at this time. He is said to be well-liked in Egypt. He has a strange aura that makes the Egyptian citizens feel at ease when they see him fight, but to this day no one has ever seen his back.

Synopsis[]

My Hero Academia: World Heroes' Mission[]

Salaam learns that Humarise has detonated a Trigger Bomb in a major city, killing thousands, and destroying the entire infrastructure. In response to the act of terrorism, the World Heroes Association mobilizes the largest anti-terror joint task force. Salaam is assisted with international Heroes worldwide including The Lurkers and their trainees, Minoru Mineta, Denki Kaminari, Hanta Sero, and Ibara Shiozaki.

The heroes lead an assault on a Humarise forward operating base in Cairo. Despite their successful raid, the Heroes fail to locate the Trigger Bombs or any of the Humarise's leaders. The Egypt team were ordered to be on standby. The operation is compromised when Humarise publicly broadcast to the entire world that they have planted the Trigger Bombs in over twenty-five cities, one of which is Cairo, and they will detonate the bombs in two hours to "cleanse" the population of their Quirks. As a result, Cairo is locked in a state of anarchy and chaos, so the Egypt team scrambled in defense to quell the hysteria and locate the bombs.

While Mt. Lady removes the trapped cars on the jamming roads, Denki, Hanta, and Minoru roam the streets looking for the bomb. Minoru questions if they will really be able to find it in such a wide area, and Salaam appears to motivate them and asks them to follow him, with the three impressed by how fast he can move with his Papyrus Quirk.

Finally, the Heroes manage to find the bomb, having to engage in an all-out war against the Humarise agents who protect it. During the battle, the Heroes are informed that Izuku's group intend to storm Humarise's main base in order to defuse the bombs worldwide.

The Lurkers manage to reach the bomb just as the countdown ends, but after a few seconds, nothing happens, indicating that Izuku's group had managed to deactivate the Trigger Bombs in time, saving the world from catastrophic destruction. With the main threat neutralized, the Heroes defeat the last of Humarise's agents and seize the device, celebrating the victory. Once the crisis has been averted, Salaam stays behind while the team leave the country.[2]

Star and Stripe Arc[]

In the aftermath of the Paranormal Liberation War, All For One has escaped from Tartarus, and proceeded to break into several more maximum security prisons, liberating the inmates. Due to the chaos inflicted by Gigantomachia and the mass breakout of prisoners, Japan has entered a state of total chaos and anarchy. In addition, many Heroes resigned and called it quits because of the massive criticism of their work, and the destruction spreading unchecked.

The chaos is also escalating throughout the world with Egypt being one of them. All Might requested assistance from other countries, and Salaam is one of the heroes who obliged to his request, annoyed at his country's officials for not accepting sooner. However, America's No. 1 Hero, Star and Stripe, was killed in action by Tomura Shigaraki. The world is shaken by the death of the American Number 1, and knowing that with the strongest hero in the world had fallen to this threat, the nations of the world retracted their support to Japan, much to the dismay of many Pro Heroes, including Salaam.

Final War Arc[]

While Salaam continues to stay at Cairo to keep the country from descending into further chaos, he watches the live broadcasts of the Final War between the Heroes and Villains in Japan, including the battles against Tomura and All For One.[3]

Abilities[]

Being Egypt's Number 1 Hero, Salaam is very proficient in his combat abilities that he was able to fend off against the Humarise terrorist organizaiton.

Quirk[]

Papyrus (パピルス Papirusu?): Salaam's Quirk allows him to turn his body paper-thin, allowing him to slip through narrow spaces and ride the wind.

  • Salaam's hero name probably originates from the gesture of greeting or respect, with or without a spoken salutation, typically consisting of a low bow of the head and body with the hand or fingers touching the forehead.
    • It could also come from the Arabic word "Salam" (سلام) which can either mean 'peace' or be used as a greeting.
  • Salaam, along with Big Red Dot, are the first movie-original characters to be both directly shown and named in the manga.
  • Salaam's Japanese voice actor, Takumu Miyazono, also voices Slidin' Go.
