Synopsis[]
Paranormal Liberation War Arc[]
Ryu Yoshida was the head doctor of Central Hospital. In the aftermath of the Paranormal Liberation War, many Heroes and Hero Course students were severely injured from fighting against the Paranormal Liberation Front, with some requiring surgery. Ryu was present with Eraser Head and Present Mic. After Eraser Head survived his wounds from the war, his conditions were very bad with the doctor mentioning that they could've ended up much worse if not for those who prioritized their safety.[1]
U.A. Traitor Arc[]
Ryu was present when Yuga Aoyama and his parents were brought to Central Hospital, shortly after Yuga was exposed as All For One's mole. Yuga was examined by the doctors in case he had been planted with an explosive trap like Lady Nagant was. In an interrogation room, Ryu told Shota that they found no abnormalities in the boy's brain or biological system, leading Class 1-A's homeroom teacher to realize that All For One had been controlling Yuga only through threats and fear.[2]
Final War Arc[]
When All For One escaped from Tartarus, he attacked all the maximum security prisons, liberating the inmates over there, causing Japan to fall into societal collapse. Due to the destruction left behind by Gigantomachia, and the spread of destruction unchecked, many Heroes are calling quits and resign, closing agencies and bringing the number of Heroes in the country down. With the number of Heroes dwindling, those that remain and the Counter Force have come up with a plan to defeat All For One and his army of villains for an all-out-battle in the Final War.
Because Central Hospital is housing the perfect Nomu, Kurogiri, the Heroes take position at the location to prevent the villains from freeing Kurogiri. Spinner and the Paranormal Liberation Front is calling for arms on the mutants to storm the Hospital in retribution for all the prejudice they've faced with the intention of liberating Kurogiri.[3]
200 Heroes and Police Force find themselves overwhelmed by the 15,000 strong army, consisting of Liberation soldiers and civilians who support their cause, pushing down and dividing the ones defending the Hospital to create a path for Spinner to reach. Once Spinner has breached through the hospital to free Kurogiri, many other civilians follow, but they hesitate upon seeing the hospital staff getting in the way of other patients. Ryu was among the doctors and staff standing in the way, making the mutant civilians hesitant to the point where they give up trying, leaving only Spinner to break through and reawaken Kurogiri.[4]
Epilogue Arc[]
After the Heroes emerged victorious over the Villains in the Final War, the restoration efforts that were stalled after the Jaku Hospital Raid have picked back up at a breakneck pace, as Heroes from around the world arrived to provide support and resources in rescue and rebuilding Japan. Ryu treats all the wounded Heroes who defeated the Villains, and was the one who performed surgery on Katsuki Bakugo after his brutal fight with All For One. As Katsuki recovers, Ryu tells him and his parents the very bad news.
Ryu informs Katsuki that his body won't ever go back to normal, with his right arm completely stitched up but mingled from his fight with Tomura and All For One, and the surgery won't get better than that. They were able to join and set together a large amount of bone fragments, but they can't guarantee rehabilitation will give him back use of his right arm. He recommends Katsuki to have prosthetics like what Mirko got if he wants to be a hero, but Katsuki declines, since his Quirk comes from the palms, and thinks about how Izuku never had one. He shouts to bring on the rehab, but the Ryu says he must only do low-level exercises, reminding him that his heart was destroyed, and he died if it wasn't for Edgeshot suturing and restarting his heart, but he has no idea how Katsuki managed to keep fighting, or why he travelled so many kilometers right afterward, telling him he was given a second shot at life and heeded the call, so for now to focus on rest.[5]
Eight years later after the end of the Final War with the Heroes being victorious over the villains, Ryu has started to gain a reputation as one of the most prominent doctors in the country, with a middle school student wishing to study and follow in his footsteps.[6]
