Season 5 of the My Hero Academia anime was announced in the 18th issue of the 2020 Weekly Shonen Jump magazine.

Story

So far, promotional material for Season 5 showed the anime will primarily revolve around the Joint Training Arc in the manga.

Production

History

As with previous seasons, the production of season five was confirmed at the end of the final episode of season four.^[1] It was later confirmed by Funimation that preparation has started in Japan.^[2] On July 8, 2020, Yuki Hayashi posted a tweet saying that he and the other composers have begun recording the soundtrack for season five.^[3]

After Hero FES 2020 occurred on October 3, 2020, the official Japanese Twitter account confirmed that season five will begin airing during Spring 2021.^[4] It was later revealed on December 18, 2020, at Jump Festa 2021, that season five will start airing on March 27, 2021 for Japan.^[5]
