Season 4 of the My Hero Academia anime was announced in the 44th issue of the 2018 Weekly Shonen Jump magazine. It aired in Japan from October 12, 2019 to April 4, 2020, covering the rescue of a little girl from a powerful yakuza boss, Katsuki and Shoto taking care of powerful children, Kyoka and Class 1-A planning a concert for the School Festival, and Endeavor stepping into the new role of the No. 1 Hero. It is a direct sequel to the third season, and was followed by a fifth season.

The season is comprised of 25 episodes, covering the Shie Hassaikai Arc, as well as the Remedial Course Arc, the U.A. School Festival Arc, along with the beginnings of the Pro Hero Arc.

History[]

As had been done previously, this season was first confirmed to be in the works at the end of the final episode of season three, which had aired days before the Shonen Jump issue containing the announcement was released.[5]

On May 26, 2019, the Japanese music label Legendoor announced that Yuki Hayashi had returned to compose the soundtrack for this season.[6] Hayashi would later confirm this himself on social media just one week later.[7]

On June 6, 2019, Funimation announced that it had acquired the season for streaming in North America, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand through its FunimationNow service.[8]

On June 16, 2019, it was announced that the season would premiere on October 12, 2019.

  • This is the first time in which the show did not begin airing in Japan during the spring anime season. While this season retained its timeslot on YTV and NTV, the baseball manga Mix aired in its stead during that time.[10]
    • This also marks the first time in which this season aired during the fall.
  • This season is tied with Season 7 for the most promotional teasers out of all seasons, with a total of 9 (10 if counting alternative versions).
