Season 4 of the My Hero Academia anime was announced in the 44th issue of the 2018 Weekly Shonen Jump magazine, it began airing in Japan on October 12, 2019 to April 4, 2020 and ran for 25 episodes. A direct sequel to Season 3, this season continued covering the Shie Hassaikai Arc, the Remedial Course Arc, the U.A. School Festival Arc, and the Pro Hero Arc.

Summary

The season picks up where Season 3 ended with the introduction of The Big 3, and the Hero Work-Studies program being extended to first years. It follows Izuku, Ochaco, Tsuyu, Eijiro with third years Mirio, Nejire and Tamaki participation in the Work Studies and Shie Hassaikai Raid with their respective assigned Hero Agency. While this is occurring Katsuki and Shoto participate in the Provisional License Remedial Course.

Following these events U.A. High School has their annual U.A. School Festival which is planned to be interrupted by an infamous duo. Soon after the School Festival it's time for the biannually Hero Billboard Chart JP where Endeavor finally takes his official place as the Number 1 Hero, which leads him working with the newly appointed Number 2 Hero Hawks. While discussing rumors of a Nomu in Fukuoka, the being itself crashes into the building they're at leading to a heated battle testing both Pro Heroes limits.

Days later, Izuku has a mysterious dream featuring the One For All Vestiges and himself witnessing in exchange between All For One and the first One For All user.

Production

History

As had been done previously, this season was first confirmed to be in the works at the end of the final episode of season three, which had aired days before the Shonen Jump issue containing the announcement was released.[5]

On May 26, 2019, the Japanese music label Legendoor announced that Yuki Hayashi had returned to compose the soundtrack for this season.[6] Hayashi would later confirm this himself on social media just one week later.[7]

On June 6, 2019, Funimation announced that it had acquired the season for streaming in North America, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand through its FunimationNow service.[8]

On June 16, 2019, it was announced that it will premiere on October 12, 2019.

  • This is the first time in which the show will not begin airing in Japan during the spring anime season. While this season will retain its timeslot on YTV and NTV, the baseball manga Mix aired in its stead during that time. [9]
    • This also marks the first time in which this season will be airing during the fall.
  • This season holds the most promotional teasers out of all seasons, with a total of 9.
