Hizashi comes up with Eraser Head

Hizashi chooses the hero name "Eraser Head" for Shota.

When Hizashi Yamada was born, his newborn cries damaged the ears of his parents and the doctor who delivered him.[1]

During his adolescent years, Hizashi attended U.A. High. During his first year, he met Shota Aizawa and Oboro Shirakumo. They all become best friends and were called "the three dumbigos of Class A".[2] While picking their hero names, Shota was unable to decide so Hizashi chose the name "Eraser Head" for him.[3] During his second year, his friend, Shota, began to have doubts about his ability to become a hero. One day, Hizashi pointed out Shota's gloomy demeanor arriving late and feeling powerless, trying to cheer him up with bad jokes, with Oboro joining them minutes later.[4]

Class 2-A's homeroom teacher begins class by reminding students that most second-years do Hero Work-Studies during summer vacation to get a taste of what the world of a Pro Hero is like. Hizashi along with Oboro and Shota were reminded they have yet to assign themselves to an agency. Hizashi and the rest of his class geared up for Joint Exercises with Class 2-B that consist of Battle Training, Rescue Training, and Entertainment Lessons. He excelled in each exercise.

A few days later, Hizashi's teachers discussed if he has any chance of landing an agency. His homeroom teacher considered he shouldn't have problems, because his Voice Quirk has implications in battle and entertainment, although he might be easily distracted, and have trouble given a set role. They could easily see him take on more than one profession in the future.

The boys talking with Nemuri.

On one of the rooftops of U.A., Hizashi was with his friends Shota and Oboro having lunch and discussing Work-studies, at the same time they talk about what they should do with a cat that Oboro brought to school. The third year student Nemuri Kayama showed up to talk with them and ended up adopting the cat. That day, Hizashi was assigned to a battle-oriented agency,[5] the Buster Union, coinciding with Sensoji, a student of Class 2-B with whom Shota usually had problems.

After a period of practices, all students returned momentarily to U.A. High School to show their progress in a Two on Two Battle Royale Training. Hizashi noticed Shota has added Oboro's signature googles to his hero costume, and Oboro jokes about it. Sensoji interrupted the conversation that they stole his eye protecting idea. At Oboro's suggestion, the teacher ordered to team up prioritizing the partnership during the Work-Studies. Hizashi protested because that means he had to team up with Sensoji, but the teacher ignored his complaints.

Sensoji leaves the battlefield

Sensoji leaves the fight.

The battle begins, and despite Hizashi's grumbles, he made a good combo with Sensoji, defeating their opponents without problems. At the end, Sensoji-Hizashi team faces the Shota-Oboro team. Before the two duos went against each other, Sensoji demanded Shota to handed his googles over if they lose. Oboro accepted and wagered their googles against Hizashi and Sensoji shades. Hizashi asked why he is included in the bet. Sensoji ordered Hizashi to stand back, because he planed to defeat them alone, but thanks to their great teamwork, Shota and Oboro managed to defeat him, winning the team battle. The wager is called off by Shota, causing Sensoji to storm off.

Later, Hizashi was hanging out with Shota and Oboro, with his new googles to match the other two. Oboro talked about the future and suggested that, when the three go independent, they should start their own agency. Hizashi and Oboro would start the combat and Shota would be the edge in battle to allow them the final blow. Shota told that he never agreed to a team-up with them two, which made both Oboro and Hizashi tease him and his broody act.[6]

A week later, the students returned to their respective agencies to continue with the Work-Studies, and accordingly, Hizashi and Sensoji returned with the Buster Union. The team of heroes was notified that a villain known as Garvey was causing great destruction in the city, and the entire Buster Union team, including the two students, flocked to face him.

Once there, the team leader ordered everyone to unleash the full power of their Quirks. All of them fired powerful attacks at Garvey, but to their surprise, the villain absorbed all the attacks. Before they could react, the villain strikes back using their own attacks against them, with even greater power. The wave of energy swept a large area, and Hizashi and the entire Buster Union team was defeated. With them out of combat, the Purple Revolution Agency, of which his friends Shota and Oboro were part, fought against Garvey. [7]

In the end, Shota was able to defeat the villain alone, but at a terrible cost: Oboro Shirakumo died during the confrontation. Even after his body was removed from the area, Hizashi and Shota remained for hours contemplating the place where Oboro died, mourning over the loss of their dear friend.[8]

The Oboro’s death had a strong impact on both but especially on Shota. While Hizashi could, more or less, overcome his loss, Shota was isolated, barely socializing with his classmates and training most of the time to improve his combat skills. Only Hizashi interacted with him and many times he saw with melancholy how Shota over trained.

Hizashi ended up graduating from U.A. and started his career as a Pro Hero.[9]

My Hero Academia: Vigilantes[]

Vigilantes Beginnings Arc[]

The heroes are victorious

The heroes defeat the Instant Villains.

Months before he started working as a teacher at U.A., Hizashi was involved in a series of events caused by a criminal organization known as the Villain Factory, a criminal organization responsible for trafficking Trigger, a drug that boosts a Quirk but turns its consumers in violent Instant Villains.

One day, one of the Factory's agents, Kuin Hachisuka, uses her Queen Bee Quirk to inject Trigger into innocent civilians, causing an Instant Villain Outbreak. Detective Naomasa immediately calls for backup. Hizashi and other heroes appear immediately and quickly they suppress the outbreak.[10]

Due to the villain outbreak, where several innocent people were turned into Instant Villains, detective Eizo Tanuma organized a meeting in the Police Station with several of the heroes who helped to stop the outbreak, to discuss the situation the best action to take. Hizashi calls his friend Shota to tell him that he cannot attend the meeting because he has a cold and he must go to a doctor.[11]

Vs. Queen Bee Arc[]

Present Mic and Midnight (Vigilantes)

Present Mic and Midnight.

Weeks later, he is invited by Makoto to participate along with other heroes in a musical event organized by the Marukane. Present Mic accepts the invitation and acts as the announcer at the festival. After the introduction, he tells the audience that in the evening portion will begin with the ensemble's FeatherHATS performance.

In the greenroom, he meets Midnight, who ask him where Eraser Head is. Present Mic replies that Shota told him he would come to the show if he can. Midnight assumes he won't come. Finally, Shota cannot attend because he has to face a villain that generates a blackout in the area.[12] Fortunately, Makoto's team fixes the generators and the festival continues, ending up being a success.[13]

Sky Egg Arc[]

Pro Heroes come on stage

Pro Heroes come on stage.

Months later, on the occasion of the return of Captain Celebrity to the USA. Makoto decides to organize a farewell show at the Tokyo Sky Egg, inviting several of Japan's most famous heroes to the event, including Present Mic.[14][15]

In the middle of the event, the Tokyo Sky Egg is attacked by creatures known as Bombers, commanded by the villain Number 6, a member of the Villain Factory. The main objective of Number 6 is to kill Captain Celebrity, and to achieve it he orders the bombers to damage the structure, leaving the Captain celebrity at his mercy by having to use his strength to prevent the building from collapsing, leaving him completely defenseless to the Bombers attack.[16]

The heroes who were participating in the event decide to organize in two groups: one group goes outside and confronts the enemies, while another group helps the show staff to look after the spectators who had come to enjoy the show without telling them the truth about what is happening, to avoid panic. Present Mic is part of this last group.[17] Thanks to the intervention of the heroes, and the timely arrival of All Might, they manage to avoid a tragedy.[18][19]

School Days Arc[]

Talking about Yamada

Shota talking about Present Mic.

Weeks after the Sky Egg Bombing, Midnight phones Shota Aizawa to talk about her experience as a teacher at U.A. and tell him that Hizashi Yamada will start teaching next semester, and the only one missing is him. Shota replies that he has not agreed to being a teacher, but Midnight replies that according to Present Mic he only needs a good shove to take action. Although Shota is annoyed by Hizashi's comments and Nemuri's insistence, after re-thinking, he accepts the offer to be a teacher.[20]

Naruhata Lockdown Arc[]

Hizashi spending time with Shota

Hizashi doesn't buy Shota's indifferent attitude.

It has been about two years since Shota accepted the job to work at U.A. High. One day, Present Mic loudly shows up to Shota and asks if they can go out to eat, but is turned down, with Shota mentioning how he has been subbing for Midnight after she had to step out temporarily. Mic pulls out an earbud and learns that he has been listening to the Naruhata news stations and teases him for worrying about the situation down there, to which he denies. Mic continues teasing, saying that if he cares about his friends there so much he should just babysit them, while Shota responds, "I'm not their teacher," amusing Mic. Shota then gets a text from Naomasa Tsukauchi to assist in apprehending The Crawler.[21]

While he's out, Naruhata ends up being attacked by the villain Number 6, who shuts down the power all throughout the city, making them unable to call in for reinforcements. Eventually, word manages to reach the outside, but by then, Number 6 has transformed into a gigantic fiery kaiju that has begun rampaging throughout the city. While the Pro Heroes deal with it, Present Mic makes his way to the city, accompanying Mister Blaster and his Buster Union, crying out that he's coming to help Eraser Head, to Mister Blaster's annoyance.

Present Mic and Buster Union

Mic joins the Buster Union to head to Naruhata.

By the time they arrive, Number 6 has exploded himself into several mini bombers that begin to suicide bomb everywhere, causing mass destruction and hysteria from the civilians. Mic once again screams out in worry over the chaos, unsure of what they can do to help prevent it, when they suddenly get word from a voice above, that being Endeavor, reminding them that since their specialty is concentrated firepower on a single villain, they are out of their wheelhouse.[22]

Endeavor prepares to end the threat, but the sudden arrival of All Might swiftly knocks all the mini bombers into the air, allowing Endeavor to safely dispose of them all, saving the city.[23] In the aftermath, Present Mic calls out to all the civilians that All Might has dealt with the villain, and since the power will be back on later, everyone should head back home, and to call out for a hero if they need help.

Present Mic chatting with Eraser Head

Present Mic talks about Koichi with Eraser Head.

He then spots Eraser Head saving a child from some rubble, congratulating him, surprised since rescues aren't usually his thing and not so "rational". Eraser Head however claims the citizen's safety is the top priority, so it is the "rational" decision. Present Mic quips back at him, heads out with Mister Blaster, and reminding him to keep an eye out for The Crawler.[24]

After Eraser Head takes an unconscious Koichi to the hospital, he and Present Mic continue to help clean up after the Naruhata Lockdown, before returning to U.A. Within the next year, Present Mic hears about Koichi's newest escapades in America as Captain Celebrity's Sidekick, "The Skycrawler".[25]

Hizashi suggests they beat them up for trespassing, but Shota warns him to stand down and wait for the police to arrive.[29]

Mic provides running commentary on the U.A. Sports Festival.

Present Mic acts as the main commentator and announcer for U.A. Sports Festival. He manages to talk Shota into commentating alongside him. During the opening ceremony for the festival, Present Mic announces every class that's taking part one by one. After Midnight introduces herself as the chief referee, the Obstacle Race is announced to be the first event.

Midnight explains the rules and the event begins as Present Mic gives a play by play to the audience. Hizashi reveals the first Obstacle will be a blockade of villain bots he nicknames the "Robo Inferno". After Shoto Todoroki freezes a gigantic villain bot on his own, Present Mic commends him and reveals to the audience that he was a student let in on recommendations.[32]

Present Mic explains the rules of the Obstacle Race

Present Mic explains the rules of the Obstacle Race.

Present Mic explains the second obstacle is "The Fall" once the students reach it; if they fall, they're out. He mentions that it can be difficult to become a popular hero without a flashy Quirk to tease Shota. He also comments on how easily Shoto is getting ahead and that Tenya looks foolish crossing the fall. Once Shoto reaches the third obstacle, the "Minefield", Present Mic explains that it is the final obstacle and the mines aren't that powerful.[33]

Present Mic continues giving a play by play of the race, including an excited take on Izuku's sudden pursuit of first place. He notices Shoto and Katsuki stop fighting to pursue Izuku and comments on how Shota's students are amazing. When Shota credits them for their own will to succeed, Present Mic teases him by calling him a terrible instructor. To conclude the event, Present Mic announces Izuku Midoriya as the champion and asks the crowd to cheer for all the competitors as they prepare the results.[34]

Present Mic and Eraser Head announcing

Present Mic and Eraser Head commentate for the Sports Festival.

Just as the Cavalry Battle is about to begin, Hizashi wakes up Shota in preparation for the battle royale.[35] At the beginning, Present Mic comments on Team Mineta's clever use of Mezo's body to cover both Minoru and Tsuyu. He's excited to see Katsuki attack Team Midoriya in mid-air, but questions if leaving his team is even allowed in the event. When he decides to take a look at the rankings seven minutes into the event, Present Mic is surprised to see Class 1-A isn't doing well. He announces the halfway point of the game and ponders what will transpire next.[36]

When Team Todoroki freezes the other teams, Present Mic is impressed with Shota's comments on Shoto's strategy. With only a minute left in the battle, Present Mic comments that Team Midoriya has miraculously kept away from Team Todoroki for the latter half of the games. He's also taken by surprise when Tenya uses his Recipro Burst technique to steal Team Midoriya's points in an instant.[37] Present Mic comments on all of the shake-ups within the final minute, including Katsuki's merciless assault on Team Monoma. He announces the end of the second round and all four of the qualifying teams. Afterwards, he asks Shota to grab lunch with him, but he refuses so he can take a nap.[38]

Reaction to the giant ice wall

Present Mic and Eraser Head react to Shoto's attack.

Prior to the final round, Present Mic announces that those who didn't make it can enjoy the cheerleaders and recreational games. He and Shota are both surprised to see the girls of Class 1-A are dressed like cheerleaders as well. He also explains that the finals will be a one-on-one fighting competition. When Nirengeki and Mashirao drop out of the finals, Hizashi calls it a strange turn of events. Present Mic announces the beginning of the finals and introduces the first match between Izuku and Hitoshi Shinso.[39]

At the start of their bout, Present Mic comments on how Hitoshi immobilizes Izuku using their Quirk. He's surprised to see how Izuku listens when Hitoshi commands him to walk out of bounds, and even more shocked when Izuku breaks his mind control. When Izuku throws Hitoshi out of bounds and wins the match, Present Mic says the match was kind of boring but still asks the audience to applaud both participants. He announces the next match and introduces both Hanta Sero and Shoto. He commends Hanta for his strong start but is silent and staring with awe after Shoto completely freezes Hanta along with half of the stadium.[40][41]

Shota and Present Mic are dismayed with Mei

Commenters don't like that Mei uses the event to promote her gadgets.

The battles resume after all the ice is removed and Present Mic introduces the next two competitors: Ibara Shiozaki and Denki Kaminari. He introduces Ibara as an assassin, but she takes exception to this and questions why he did so. Present Mic apologizes and is annoyed when Ibara starts monologuing over her own humbleness. She defeats Denki rather quickly, prompting Present Mic to comment that it was over in an instant. He continues on to the next match between Tenya Ida and Mei Hatsume, but is dismayed when Mei turns the match into a commercial for her gadgets. He commentates during Mina's match with Yuga, Fumikage's battle with Momo and Eijiro's fight with Tetsutetsu. He later mentions that Eijiro and Tetsutetsu's Quirks are redundant and even gives them the same introduction for their match. They fight to a draw, and while they recover Present Mic announces the last match between Katsuki Bakugo and Ochaco Uraraka.[42]

During the final match of the first round, Present Mic makes it evident he's rooting for Ochaco. He becomes concerned when Katsuki barrages her with explosions and agrees with the crowd when they start booing him for it. However, Shota takes it upon himself to hit Present Mic and reprimand the crowd for their negativity. Hizashi is surprised when Ochaco reveals her strategy and drops floating debris from the sky. He's equally shocked when Katsuki blows it away with a super explosion. When the match ends, Present Mic calls the outcome depressing and announces that there will be a break between rounds. Before the second round's first match, Present Mic comments on the huge anticipation for the epic battle between frontrunners Izuku and Shoto.[43][44]

Present Mic excited for Izuku vs Shoto

Present Mic excited for Izuku and Shoto's battle.

Present Mic announces their match closely, commentating on Izuku's counters against Shoto's ice. When Shoto unleashes his flames and Endeavor yells across the arena, Hizashi hesitantly comments about how much of a good father he is. The match concludes with a gigantic explosion that Present Mic questions. Shota explains that the arena's air had been cooled then rapidly heated, prompting Hizashi to realize that is what caused the explosion.[45][46][47]

Hizashi continues to announce the rest of the second and third rounds leading up to the final matchup between Shoto and Katsuki.[48] Shoto opens the match with another giant ice blast and questions whether the match is already over. However, Katsuki tunnels his way out of the ice and surprises Hizashi and the viewing crowd. He commends Shoto's use of an ice wave and mentions that it looks like fun. Come the battles climax, Present Mic comments on Katsuki's Howitzer Impact technique and that Shoto refused to use the fire blast he used to beat Izuku. Afterwards, Present Mic announces the conclusion of U.A. Sports Festival.[49][50]

Vs. Hero Killer Arc[]

In the faculty room, Hizashi and Shota are both annoyed by All Might's obnoxious ring tone.[51]

Final Exams Arc[]

Present Mic attends a meeting with his fellow faculty members to discuss changing the final exams. He questions whether having the students fight teachers in pairs is a good idea because it may be difficult to grade them if they are easily defeated. He and the other teachers meet with the students prior to the practical exam so Principal Nezu can explain the change. He comments that it differs from combat training because the students will be up against superior fighters. Kyoka responds with confusion, claiming that Present Mic is just an announcer. This irritates him and he yells for Kyoka to have some respect. Present Mic is placed against Kyoka Jiro and Koji Koda to drown out their sound related Quirks.[52]

Voice

Present Mic puts Koji and Kyoka to the test.

Present Mic begins their battle guarding the escape gate and uses his loud Quirk to blast the entire forested area with his voice. As he waits for them to draw closer to the escape gate, Present Mic continues to yell and flood the forest with his voice. Kyoka manages to counter one of his shouts with her own Quirk, but Hizashi is unimpressed with her power.

After yelling for them to come out for a few more moments, Present Mic notices bugs coming from underground where sound doesn't travel well. He is paralyzed with fear and allows the bugs to crawl up his leg, causing him to faint and allow Team Kyoka and Koji to pass through the escape gate.[1]

Forest Training Camp Arc[]

Present Mic is later seen among other U.A. teachers in an emergency meeting regarding the villain attack at the training camp and the capture of Katsuki Bakugo. Present Mic pointed out how the time of peace had made them soft and was the one to bring up the idea of a traitor in U.A. He desired to find the identity of the traitor, only for his theory to be dismissed by Midnight and Snipe.[53]

Remedial Course Arc[]

All Might and Present Mic

"You are late!! Bad boys!"

Present Mic and Eraser Head's substitute All Might were assigned to monitoring Shoto and Katsuki at the Provisional Hero License Course Training. He explains that Shota is busy dealing with tasks related to U.A. High School. Shoto inquires, causing Present Mic to explain that his Quirk is needed to help the rescued girl, and for that reason, he ask him to come along as a bodyguard. All Might further comments that Present Mic's presence is a precaution in light of the League of Villains' movements.

Shoto, Katsuki, All Might and Present Mic take the bus to the Provisional Hero License Training centre. All Might and Present Mic prepare to go and watch from the bleachers, but unexpectedly encounter a furious Endeavor who, although thanks All Might for looking after Shoto, demands a chat with the former Number One Hero. Seeing the situation so tense, Present Mic decides to buy coffee for all three.[54]

Gang Orca is in charge of training the students, and Present Mic is impressed by his aggressive drill instructor attitude. Gang Orca has prepared for Katsuki and Shoto, along with Inasa and Camie from Shiketsu High School, a particular task for just the four of them which is taking care of elementary school kids from Masegaki Primary School. The students from Masegaki are especially misbehaved, lacking any sort of discipline or respect, even their teacher. The goal is for all four to learn to connect with people, but the students start their task poorly.

Present Mic as a commentator

Present Mic decides to provide commentary on the "battle".

After sitting in the bleachers silently for a while, Present Mic gets so bored he shrieks in agony, saying his DJ soul can't take it anymore. Present Mic decides to act as a commentator on the training to lighten up the mood with his commentating and All Might remarks that this is Present Mic's way of looking out for them, to which Endeavor does not respond.[55]

He begins to commentate on the situation with the bratty children as the kids give the students a hard time, commenting on how the kid make every student's attempt to win their hearts fail. Some of them start showing off their Quirks, believing in their parents' words that their generation will be better. Katsuki is glad that the children are showing off their Quirks and decides to take them all on while Hizashi Yamada is disappointed that the students in training are struggling with some mere school children. However, Hizashi did not utter his thoughts since he had a small amount of conscience left in them.[56]

Present Mic remarks that Gang Orca like kids

"He really likes kids."

The children of Masegaki attack Katsuki, Inasa, Shoto and Camie with a variety of Quirks. Present Mic is impressed at the children's efficiency with their Quirk abilities, saying that at their age he didn't have as much power as they did. Komari Ikoma, the teacher of the kids, apologizes her students violence, but before she can do anything, she is stopped by Present Mic telling her that now is their turn. It turns out that the four students are perfectly fine as they used their Quirks respectively to stop the children's attacks.

Then they combine their Quirk to win the hearts of the children by creating a playground for the children to play on, successfully win over the kids and passing the task.[57] When the Provisional Training Hero Course training ends Gang Orca congratulates the students, although without abandoning his aggressive attitude. Present Mic remarks that deep down, Gang Orca actually like kids and his behavior is mostly an act.

Before returning to U.A. High School, he and All Might talk with the Shiketsu teacher about the two schools starting to work together in order to stop the League of Villains.[58]

Joint Training Arc[]

Hizashi talks about Oboro Shirakumo

Hizashi talks to Shota about their old friend Oboro.

After evaluating the performance of Hitoshi Shinso in the Joint Training Battle, Shota presents his case for Hitoshi’s transfer to the other faculty members and earns Nezu’s approval.

After the meeting, as they are walking down the hall, Present Mic notes the similarities between Hitoshi and Shota in his younger years, and asks if he has taken him as a pupil for that reason, although he also asks if he does it for Oboro Shirakumo. Shota requests that if he wants to say something he should keep it short, as Shota has somewhere to be. Hizashi evades the question saying that he was just reminiscing.[59]

My Hero Academia: World Heroes' Mission[]

Japan Task Force 2

Present Mic joins the Japanese Task Force.

While Hizashi continued to teach at U.A., a major city suffers from a terrifying terrorist act committed by Flect Turn, the leader of the cult known as Humarise, who detonated a Trigger Bomb in a large city, causing a large number of victims. As a result of this, the World Heroes Association mobilizes a anti-terror joint task force made up of the top heroes worldwide in defeating the terrorist organization.

U.A. teachers Present Mic and Cementoss volunteer to accompany the Japan Task Force which also includes members from Fat Gum's agency and Gang Orca's agency.

They have the mission of storming the branch that Humarise has in Tokyo, arrest its members and get hold of any Trigger Bombs that might be there. Despite their successful raid, the heroes fail to locate the Trigger Bombs and the most prominent members of Humarise. Around the world, the other hero teams also succeed in their respective raids, but with the same results. The WHA director orders all the hero teams to stand by in their respective countries.

A few days later, the operation is compromised when Flect Turn hacked into every communications network and broadcast to the world that they have planted Trigger Bombs in the major cities of the twenty-five countries and they will detonate them in two hours. As a result of their ultimatum, widespread panic and hysteria persists in Tokyo. The WHA greenlights the heroes being deployed to each sector and fights in defense to quell the chaos and locate the Trigger Bombs.

Present Mic helping stuck drivers

Present Mic assisting the civilians to evacuate the traffic jam.

With major highways and roadways clogged and blocked in a traffic jam, Present Mic also arrives to help along with Cementoss, asking him to use his Quirk to create a path to evacuate people trapped on a highway bridge. Mic then uses his Voice Quirk to draw the attention of drivers and tell them where to evacuate.

The heroes manage to locate the Trigger Bombs, only to engage in a all-out war against the Humarize sleeper agents guarding the bombs. All the heroes fight relentlessly until the countdown finally reaches zero. Much to their relief, after several seconds pass, none of the bombs go off, indicating that the other Heroes managed to defuse the primary devices just in time. With the bombs disarmed and the Humarise members arrested, Hizashi and Cenemtoss return to U.A.[60]

Paranormal Liberation War Arc[]

Episode 107

Hizashi and Shota ready to interrogate Kurogiri.

Hizashi and Shota are called to Tartarus after it was found that Kurogiri was a Nomu created from their deceased friend Oboro, shocking them both. Hizashi says he hopes it is a big misunderstanding. After the duo arrive at Tartarus, they meet up with Naomasa Tsukauchi and Gran Torino, who explain the situation to them.[61]

They explain that they have failed trying to obtain information from Kurogiri, but they hope that due to their friendship with Oboro, both Hizashi and Shota can awaken the consciousness of their former friend from Kurogiri. Hizashi questions if it shouldn't be the Oboro's family who does that to which Naomasa says they will contact them if he and Shota fails. Shota uses his Quirk on Kurogiri and says he'll be damned to let Oboro's parents learn of this stuff.

Shota and Hizashi calling their friend Oboro

Hizashi and Shota try to awaken Oboro within Kurogiri.

When the investigation begins, Hizashi notes that the black fog doesn't vanish even with Shota looked at him, meaning Kurogiri's body is made of the black substance. Just as he starts immediately yells that their theory that he's Oboro is off mark, Kurogiri questions if Tomura is okay and if he got captured. Hizashi starts yelling that watching over him is a stupid job only to notice Shota's saddened expression.

In their interview with Kurogiri, they try to get their old friend to remember who he used to be, with Shota breaking down into tears as he reminisces of all the kind things he did back when he was Oboro.[2] The two eventually success in their efforts, with Oboro breaking through the mist and saying "hospital" before passing out. Hizashi expresses his concern towards Shota's eyes as he had used Erasure the whole time, while the latter says his eyes are just dry as he cries. After this, Hizashi and Shota return U.A. while Naomasa reports to the Hero Public Safety Commission about the last clue obtained.[62]

Shota and Hizashi are depressed

Shota and Hizashi are in a bad mood when they find out about Oboro.

Once in the In the teacher's dorms at Heights Alliance, Shota and Present Mic dejectedly talk about recent events. Shota expresses his distrust of the Hero Public Safety Commission, suggesting that they must know something's up, due to their insistence on students participating in work studies, something Hizashi agrees with. Shota changes the subject, asking Hizashi what he would do if they were to discover where the Nomu are being made. Hizashi angrily gives a sarcastic response before turning the question on Shota. Then they are interrupted by Big 3 to tell them that Eri is unwell.[63]

It then becomes the end of March. After hearing Kurogiri's clue and Hawks' intel, the Heroes plan for a raid, the war that will stop the Paranormal Liberation Front once and for all.[64] Naomasa talks about the Jaku General Hospital, the hospital that Kurogiri was referring to, since one of his undercover agents had found that its head doctor, Dr.Kyudai Garaki is an ally of Tomura Shigaraki and managed to discreetly photographed him with a small Nomu in a hospital area that only he can access.

Present Mic confronts Kyudai Garaki

Hizashi wants to make Kyudai pay for what he did to Oboro.

When the raid began, Present Mic is one of the Pro Heroes participating in the raid of the Jaku General Hospital, to find Kyudai and stop Tomura Shigaraki's surgery before he awakens. The heroes quickly encounter Dr. Garaki in the corridors of the hospital.[65] Kyudai is aghast at the unexpected appearance of the heroes and tries to flee, but Eraser Head capture him with his Capturing Weapon and uses his Erasure on him proving Kyudai has a longevity Quirk.

Thinking about what he did to his friend Oboro, Present Mic angrily demands him an answer why he's using his powers for evil. Two doctors, who were watching, come in and push Present Mic away, wanting to know what it is he's done wrong.

Loud Voice

Present Mic shatters the tank containing Tomura Shigaraki.

The heroes are escorting the two doctors away when suddenly several Nomu tear through the floor and kill Kyudai, who it turns out not to be the real doctor, but a clone created with Double. The real Kyudai Garaki is in his secret lab and releases a horde of Nomu to fight the heroes as he tries to wake up Tomura from his stasis.[66]

The Hospital soon becomes a battlefield, with heroes and creatures fighting through hospital wards and corridors.[67] Some heroes, however, manage to break into the secret lab. Kyudai awakens the High-Ends to fight them off while he evacuates the room. Present Mic and the other Pro Heroes fight the Nomu army, but one of the High-Ends, Woman, stabilizes and identifies his Voice Quirk, dodging his and several others' attacks with ease. Despite the High-Ends' efforts, Mirko breaks into the room where Kyudai is overseeing Tomura's progress, causing the Heroes to advance. Present Mic and Eraser Head make it their mission to stop them both.[68]

DJ Punch (Anime)

Present Mic punches the Doctor.

As Present Mic goes on ahead, Eraser Head confidently tells him that he is counting on him. He sees Tomura's capsule and plans to break it. Kyudai tries to awaken Tomura with a remote, but Present Mic uses Loud Voice to break the capsule and all of the machinery in the lab. He thinks back to when Shota told him that he would follow him wherever he went, since he was still holding on to the dream that they and Oboro had back then, even though it seemed naïve and a nightmare now. Present Mic uses DJ Punch on Garaki not only to find out if he's the real thing, but also as revenge for making his friend Shota cry.[69]

Present Mic drags Kyudai across the lab, demanding him to stop the Nomus. Kyudai tells him about society's rejection of his Quirk Singularity Theory and how everyone hated the idea of a collapse for the future, to the point where he was ostracized and exiled, until All For One accepted him. Kyudai reveals that the name of his longevity Quirk is Life Force and he gave it to All For One as an offering, while keeping a copy of it for himself.

Gran Torino saves Present Mic and Garaki

Gran Torino saves Mic and Kyudai.

As Present Mic begins to feel more and more disgust towards the doctor, Kyudai rhetorically asks him if he is a friend of Kurogiri, confessing that back then when his friend Oboro died, he actually wanted to get his hand on Shota Aizawa's Erasure, leading Hizashi to resent him while he grins madly.[70]

Despite having previously verified that his heart was not beating, Tomura Shigaraki awakens,[70]. Seeing the situation, he immediately uses his Decay, which spreads rapidly through the laboratory. While Hizashi is escorting Kyudai Garaki to the surface, they notice the lab starting to disintegrate, with Kyudai smiling maniacally as it reached closer to the two of them. Gran Torino charges in and quickly grabs the two.

Present Mic listens to Kyudai's rants

Present Mic feels uneasy listening to Kyudai's rants.

The laboratory begins to crumble, and the heroes try to flee as they can from the destruction. Thanks to Gran Torino, Hizashi manages to get to safety but most of the heroes die because of the Decay, which destroys the entire hospital, spreading to the city. An ecstatic Kyudai declares everything the Heroes built will disintegrate with Tomura hands, so this is their victory.[71]

Mic takes Kyudai Garaki to the nearest police force, while the few surviving heroes face Tomura and a new batch of Nomu. All this happens while he listens to the old man praising Tomura's new power and his creatures.[72] Once Garaki is arrested, Hizashi is informed of the situation by a policeman: Gigantomachia goes to where Tomura is, destroying everything in his way.

Shota and Hizashi at Central Hospital

Hearing this, Kyudai begins to brag and Hizashi listens with concern as the doctor boasts that the heroes have lost the battle. He also tells the police and Present Mic that Gigantomachia is a calamity that lives and dies for the sake of his master; in fact, the Nomu were modeled after him.[73]

After leaving Kyudai Garaki in police custody, Mic runs back to the battlefield.[74] Seeing Tomura Shigaraki (under the control of All For One) escaping along with a few allies and several Near High-End Nomus, he and other heroes try to stop them, but fail and the villains manage to escape.[75] Shortly after he reunites with Eraser Head, he learns about the casualties of the War, most specifically, Midnight. He starts to mourn over her, while Eraser asks for an update on the student's status.[76]

Dark Hero Arc[]

In the aftermath of the Paranormal Liberation War, and the chaos among the streets as a result of the loose criminals that have escaped prison, U.A. is formed into a sanctuary for civilians seeking protection to stay at. Present Mic, alongside the rest of the U.A. staff, stay at the school to watch over the civilians, while the rest of the Pro Heroes handle clean up.

With All For One at large, Izuku, being the holder of One For All, left U.A. in order to protect his classmates, however knowing how tired he has gotten trying to handle everything all on his own, Class 1-A band together to convince him to return and rest at U.A., which he eventually gives into.

Best Jeanist tries to convince refugees

Present Mic and Best Jeanist try to calm down the refugees.

However, once they return to U.A., they are faced against an angry mob of civilians, who are aware Izuku is who Tomura is after, and thus believe it is a danger to them to have him inside with everyone else.[77] Present Mic is among the crowd, attempting to calm everyone down using a megaphone to address them all. Best Jeanist steps forward to him to try and explain to everyone the situation and why Izuku needs to rest, but all it does is rile them up even more.

Just then, Ochaco grabs Mic's megaphone, floating her way up to the top of U.A. High to address the civilians herself, pleading to them to let Izuku stay and giving them a speech on why now he needs all of their help.[78] They are eventually convinced and agree to let him stay to rest, as the students escort him inside while the Heroes stay to disperse the rest of the civilians.[79]

U.A. Traitor Arc[]

During the class' rest period, in preparation for the upcoming second War against the Villains, Class 1-A uncover the devastating truth, something Present Mic himself had suggested, that there is a U.A. Traitor, and it's Yuga Aoyama. He had been feeding information to All For One, including the U.S.J. and Training Camp locations, and had just now been ordered to lure Izuku somewhere alone. Izuku had discovered this and apprehended the Aoyama Family, taking them to the U.A. Staff and Police Force to be questioned, with everyone being devastated at the revelation.

The Aoyama Family arrested

Everyone reacts in shock over the truth behind the Aoyamas.

During the interrogation they learn that the family had been forced into All For One's servitude after the villain had given the Quirkless Yuga his Navel Laser Quirk. It is because of this that Izuku recognizes that Yuga isn't a bad person and wants him to help them take down All For One.[80] This sentiment is shared by the rest of the class, who also believe Yuga can be used to help them trick All For One. Present Mic asks the class why, with them being the greatest victims after all this, they're so willing to trust him, and Tenya simply responds that what happened is in the past, and with them being unable to realize how he's been feeling all this time, they carry some responsibility, so they must reach out to him as friends in order for them to become equals again.

Just then, Shota, who is listening in on everything through a tablet held by Present Mic, addresses everyone, informing Yuga that he has no intention of expelling him from U.A., as well as also revealing a plan he had come up with to use Yuga to deceive All For One. The plan is well received by those who hear it, while the Aoyamas are taken into custody for further interrogation.[81]

As the Heroes prepare to execute their plans, Class 1-A moves out of U.A. and into the Makeshift Fortress "Troy" dorms outside of it. As they say their goodbyes to their families and the civilians, Mic is present watching over Eri, to see Izuku off.[82]

Final War Arc[]

With the number of Heroes rapidly dwindling, those that remain and the Counter-Force have come up with a plan to defeat All For One and his army of villains for an all-out-battle of the Final War. Using Yuga and his family as bait, the Heroes plan to lure All For One and the villains in a designated open area where they can catch them off-guard with Neito Monoma copying Kurogiri's Warp Gate to teleport the remaining Heroes into the area.[83]

Their plan worked, and with the villains in one place, they deploy the "Troy" system trap to capture the villains in cages and shove them all into Neito's Warp Gates, splitting them up all over the country.[84]

Present Mic is assigned to lead a team of Heroes and Police Force to protect Central Hospital, in case the Villains attempt to try and free Kurogiri, who is still locked up within the facility. They had attempted to spread rumors about his location; however they learn this proved fruitless after 1-A's Mezo Shoji and Koji Koda ask to join the operation, having learned from the heteromorph refugees of a "call to action" for the heteromorphs to storm the hospital as retribution for their prejudice. Shota agrees to let them join, asking Mic to support the boys.[85]

Battle at Central Hospital

Present Mic and his team defend Central Hospital.

An army of heteromorphs, led by a now gigantified Spinner, attempt to storm the Hospital, with the intention of freeing Kurogiri within. During the battle, Present Mic receives word that Shoto has defeated Dabi, announcing it onto the battlefield. Spinner balks at this revelation, calling his words "information warfare" and commands the army to get Kurogiri back so they can destroy the status quo.[86]

However, due to the 200 Heroes and Police Force being outnumbered by the 15,000 heteromorphs, they prove to have some trouble dealing with them. As the fighting escalates, Mic comments on how popular Oboro is right now, attempting to push back the army with his Loud-Out Shout. However, they use a meat shield to block most of the vibrations, while a flying warrior is about to attack Mic while he is still in the air. He is saved by a flock of crows controlled by Koji, who proceeds to say that he and Mezo got split up, as the heteromorph army continues to overpower the Heroes, splitting them up and pinning them down, allowing Spinner a path to the Hospital.[87]

While Mic is busy fighting off against the heteromorph army, he watches on Mezo engaging Spinner, thinking back on Shota's words to look after them, saying that with Quirks getting stronger each generation, the students have already far surpassed how any of them were at that age. When Mezo unleashes "Octospansion" onto Spinner in the stomach, Mic assists him by shooting a Voice attack directly at him.

Spinner and Mic call out to Kurogiri and Oboro

Present Mic calls out to Oboro while Spinners calls out to Kurogiri.

Mezo tries to yell at the civilians to cease their needless fighting, while Spinner continues to declare them to follow him. He blasts his way toward the Hospital, forcing Mic to go after him and the heteromorph army who breached the entrance. As Spinner continues to barrel forward, however, Mic notices that some of the heteromorphs following him find themselves hesitating upon seeing the hospital staff standing guard, and thinking about Mezo's words about hurting the innocents.

Realizing that Mezo's voice has reached to the heteromorph army, Mic proceeds to chase after Spinner, now alone and with no army to back him up. Reaching the research facility, Mic catches up to Spinner, stating that Mezo had reached them, and that "he" won't be their ace. Approaching the tied up villain, Spinner and Mic each call out to Kurogiri and Oboro respectively.[85]

When he doesn't respond, Present Mic shoots his Voice out, knocking Spinner to the ground and destroying the recording device he was going to use to wake him up. Mic worries about what to do to stop Kurogiri's release, noting that he hasn't reacted at all since that day, wondering if he's already broken. As their plan is to kill Kurogiri if the worst case scenario comes, Mic prepares to do the deed.

Kurogiri appears at the U.A

"Kurogiri" teleports himself and Present Mic to Eraser Head at U.A.

Rushing toward him, he silently speaks to Oboro, telling him about how Shota has lost an eye recently, and how they don't want to lose their good memories of him, so it should be better off this way, although still hoping that there is a slight chance that he is still in there. However before he can, Spinner gets back up and gives Kurogiri Tomura's remaining hand, telling him to save him, causing Mic to call out to Oboro again. As a result, "Kurogiri" breaks free from his restraints, and with the face of Oboro partially appearing, declares he is "the protector of Tomura Shigaraki".[88]

With "Kurogiri" active, Present Mic stares in horror as he stares back at him. The villain starts to change the course of the war by unleashing several Warp Gates across the battlefields, including teleporting Dabi from Kamino and Himiko from Okuto Island to the Gunga Mountain Villa. Once the deed is done, "Kurogiri" teleports himself and Present Mic to the U.A. Flying Fortress, catching Neito Monoma, Manual, and Shota off guard as Shota looks behind in shock.[89]

Kurogiri saves Eraser Head and Present Mic

Present Mic and Eraser Head fall to their deaths before "Kurogiri" saves them.

Mic tries to call out to Shota, but things get worse when another portal appears next to them, teleporting Twice Doubles conjured by Himiko that begin to swarm them. Shota and Manual are immediately pushed to the side, as the Doubles swarm all over them and dogpile on Neito, causing him to shut his eyes and undoing Erasure. As a result, Tomura unleashes a massive explosion, destroying most of the U.A. Fortress. With the power line busted and the electromagnetic barrier barely standing, Mandalay then reports in that someone has hacked into their system and they have lost control of the flight system, causing the fortress to start falling from the sky.[90]

While U.A. itself is saved thanks to Gentle using his Quirk to keep it afloat and La Brava restoring the flight system, the Twice Doubles continue to be too much for the Heroes to handle on the observation deck. As a result, both Shota and Present Mic were tackled off the structure by the Doubles, falling toward the ground. But to everyone's surprise, "Kurogiri" suddenly reappears beneath them, opening a Warp Gate that teleports them all away.[91]

Chapter 420

Present Mic and Shota and stranded on a iceberg in the Arctic with "Kurogiri".

"Kurogiri" has teleported all three of them to a glacier in the Arctic, stranding themselves far away from the battlefield. Furious, Present Mic angrily grabs "Kurogiri", and demands that they return, having no idea where they are or what's going on due to their comms being dead, yelling that he picked a great time to malfunction and to show some life. Present Mic continues to vent that they never should've put their fate in it's hands, and that relying on a corpse was a bad idea. When "Kurogiri" doesn't respond, Present Mic prepares to beat him to make him talk, but Shota stops Mic, saying he can see tears. Mic denies him crying, but Shota reiterates he means "Kurogiri". Mic excuses that it's just the rain and they aren't real tears, since he's just a Nomu and he purposefully split him up because he messed with Tomura twice now.

Their priority is switching him back on so they can get back to the fight, and once it's over, Present Mic vows to kill "Kurogiri" for good since he's just a "darkened dud", reminding Shota to forget about the miracle they saw in Tartarus since they aren't students in U.A.'s Class 2-A anymore.

Nonetheless, Shota was convinced that he was a U.A. student when he died, and wonders why he didn't just tear them apart with the Warp Gates or drop them to their deaths. He continues that at Tartarus, they reached toward him and drew a bit of light, which blended with his darkness and shut him down, since no amount of light can ever reverse all that dark, but darkness works differently, which is what activated again. He states that as teachers in the hero course, it's their job to make sure U.A. students graduate, and thinking if that's where his origin lies. Suddenly, "Kurogiri" unleashes a large puff of smoke, and Oboro begins to slowly wake up through Kurogiri. Mic was surprised when "Kurogiri" called out his name and thought of Shota's answer that those memories aren't ever going to fade as Kurogiri reawakens with part of Oboro's face revealed, standing before them.

Now that Shota and Mic have "Kurogiri" back under control, "Kurogiri" teleports all of them back to the U.A. Evacuation Center where Mic keeps "Kurogiri" secured while Shota moves around to recruit all the Heroes defending the evacuation center. Because they don't know how long their hold on "Kurogiri" will last, they need to get moving. Death Arms wants to help, alongside another young hero who also wants to fight by their side. All the Heroes, including Setsuna Tokage, Togaru Kamakiri, and Ectoplasm, started gathering the remaining forces that can fight to Takoba National Stadium, as the Heroes there are dealing with the Tartarus escapee known for wide-range devastation and battles of attrition, Gashly Eijiju. They managed to defeat him before being teleported through the Warp Gates to Mt. Fuji where Izuku and "All For One" are battling to the death.[92]
