Haruaki Sun-Sun (サンサン (はる) (あき) Sansan Haruaki?), also known as Mr. Sunny, is a caretaker of an unnamed orphanage owned by Kyudai Garaki, intending the raise the children there as potential vessels for All For One.

Appearance[]

Haruaki is a tall, adult man. Notably, his face resembles a yellow sunflower and he has a perpetually cheerful look on his face. While his face, ears, and neck are all yellow, the hair on the back of his head is shown to be brown, and his hands are of a tan complexion. He is seen wearing a white hoodie with a pink apron.

Personality[]

Haruaki appears to be a cheerful person, welcoming Toya Todoroki at his orphanage while saying that they will be his new family. However, it is unknown whether this is his true personality or just a façade, since it is revealed that the children under his care were being raised with the intention of turning them into vessels for All For One, and that he was working directly under the latter and Kyudai Garaki.

At the very least, the other kids at the orphanage beared no visible signs of abuse or mistreatment. He also attempted to stop Toya when the latter lashed out at All For One through the computer, though this led to the boy attacking him and setting the building on fire.

History[]

Haruaki acted as the caretaker in an orphanage owned by Kyudai Garaki, carrying out his role of looking after the children, who were being raised as spare vessels for All For One in case anything happened to Tomura Shigaraki. When All For One came across Toya Todoroki, who had nearly been burned to death after losing control of his Quirk, the villain took him in and housed him in the orphanage as the boy's body was repaired. Toya would remain in a coma for the following three years.

One day, Toya finally woke up from his coma, finding himself in the orphanage and wondering how he is still alive. He soon comes across a room with other children, where one of the kids tells him that he had been asleep for three years, much to Toya's shock. Toya panics and says he has to go home, but Haruaki appears and tells him that he can't and that everyone in the orphanage is now his new family. Frantic, Toya says that his father probably didn't meet with him because he was busy with hero work and that he has to go home so he can apologize for the horrible thing he did and what he said to his mother, saying he can still show his father that he can be a hero.

Through a computer, All For One addresses Toya, saying that the boy's hopes are in vain because his body was permanently damaged and had to be repaired using special regenerative tissue. As a result of burning his entire body, Toya's nervous system and sense of pain have been dulled, and his flames won't ever be the same again. Toya is distraught upon hearing this, but All For One tells Toya that they might be able to restore his Quirk back to its original strength and offers him to stay and learn with them. Toya vehemently refuses however, saying that he doesn't want to be taught by anyone other than his father. An angry Toya lashes out at the computer. Haruaki tries to stop the boy and calm him down, but Toya attacks the caretaker with his flames, fleeing the orphanage after setting the building on fire.[1]

While the orphanage was set ablaze, the weakened flames failed in burning it down and were soon put out. Fearing that the orphanage's secret would be exposed, Kyudai placed the blame on Haruaki for starting the fire. Since no one died and the incident was never made public, the heroes and authorities never discovered the dark truth about the orphanage.[2]

Trivia[]

  • Haruaki may have been inspired by Flowey from Toby Fox's role-playing game Undertale; both resemble flowers and possess seemingly cheerful attitudes that serve to hide their dark true natures.
  • Haruaki's Japanese voice actor, Michitake Kikuchi, also voices a civilian[3], the ambassador of Egypt[4][5], and Simon Gollini.
