The FeatherHATS (フェザーハッツ Fezāhattsu?) is a music band created by Makoto Tsukauchi and sponsored by the Marukane Department Store.

Overview[]

The FeatherHATS is composed of talented young artists from Naruhata. The band consists of its combined namesakes, the Feathers duo, twin idols Miu and Yu, and the Mad Hatters rock band, in additional to indie idol Pop☆Step, and the East Naruhata High Dance Squad. They were later joined by the Sisters of Saint Lila's Academy. Due to their diverse backgrounds, they don't have a cohesive uniform, but tend to dress independently.

They are based in Marukane, where they perform at the Naruhata Festival. They have a conference room assigned to them as a dressing room or where they can meet to organize their schedule with their manager Makoto Tsukauchi.

Marukane Department sends invitations to various local artists.

After the damage caused by the Instant Villain Ryuichi Gojiyama was repaired, the Marukane Department Store management decide to hold a music event on the building's rooftop to celebrate the reopening. They decide to look for local amateur and independent artists who will fit into their schedules, as it wouldn't cost much money.

Pop☆Step receives an email announcing that she is one of the invited artists, but she is far from being happy for this opportunity. She nervously wonders if she should participate, and is willing to do it, but she is only used to doing solo street performances rather than professional ones, and is afraid of messing it up.

To help her, Koichi Haimawari calls Makoto to come, as his senior is more knowledgeable and would handle the situation better than he would. After checking the offer on her laptop, Makoto points out that it's only for those who come for lunch, as the rooftop has a capacity of 300 people and no tickets are sold, comparing it to a dinner show rather than a full concert.

In minutes, Makoto creates a grand plan that might skyrocket Pop's career. The event is more of a local karaoke than a real presentation, so as the chief manager of the Captain Celebrity Corporation, she ups the game by making Captain Celebrity a participant. That way, it becomes something like an indie festival in which the artists must perform an adapted version of their jingle.[1]

The next day, Makoto gathers the various members who will participate in the performance in a hall at the Marukane Department Store. The first to arrive are Miu and Yu, the twin members of the idol duo Feathers, followed by Kazuho and Koichi. The East Naruhata High Dance Squad are next, and last to arrive is the rock band Mad Hatters.

With everyone gathered, Makoto breaks down the stage plans for the group until they’re set to perform. While the Mad Hatters and the Dance Squad are easy to place around, Makoto suggests putting Pop in the center with the twins surrounding. The duo complains, as they don't want to be seen as backup singers by having Pop in the center, on top of Pop not being all that good of a singer. Makoto doesn't disagree with that last remark, but clarifies that Pop has a far better stage presence than both of them.

Makoto puts the issue on hold since they have two weeks to figure everything out and gives all the lead performers their assignments for the next week: Pop is going to practice singing the song on her own while the Feathers must learn basic steps and stage maneuvers from the dance squad. When they're one week away, they'll check on the results for both parties and decide for positioning.

Over the next few days, the various members train and practice constantly to improve their less developed skills. In the meantime, as he takes down villains and keeps Naruhata safe, Captain Celebrity promotes the upcoming Narufest, with members of his Ouendan handing out flyers about the event to anybody nearby.

Pop finds a way for Miu to still perform.

Just one week before the event, Miu sprained her ankle during her intense workout. While her injury will heal before the show, she'll be unable to do any strenuous movement onstage. Makoto isn't sure if they should let Miu perform on stage with little movement or just remove her entirely and have Pop and Yu perform a duet.

Seeing how hard Miu trained and her desire to participate, Pop come with a third option and decides to let Miu go in the center so she doesn't have to move all that much, with her and Yu dancing around her to play to their strengths, a suggestion that everyone agrees with, and the corresponding modifications are made for performance.[2]

On the day of the event, several Heroes arrive to participate as guests, including heroes such as Midnight and Present Mic, the latter acting as the host. The festival proceeds without incident until, just as the FeaterHats are scheduled to perform, a power outage occurs in the area due the battle between the Pro Hero Eraser Head and the Next-Level Villain Teruo Unagisawa.[3]

With everyone talking about the blackout and wondering if it will halt the Narufest, Midnight informs Makoto that there is no power anywhere in the vicinity, and it looks like they might have to cancel the event. Fortunately, at that moment, Captain Celebrity appears to help, and Makoto sends him to bring a few generators so they can power everything back up and continue on with the show.

Now, they just need to buy some time and reassure the public, but due to the circumstances with the power outage being the result of a villain attack, the heroes are on standby in case of an emergency. When Makoto has a hard time finding a way to get it to happen, Koichi arrives to save the show.

He went home as The Crawler to bring Pop☆Step her microphone, so she can take over as the new host in place of Present Mic to explain to the crowd their current situation and to keep them busy and calm until Captain Celebrity returns with emergency generators so they can set everything up.[4]

At first, Pop is clearly overwhelmed, even saying embarrassing things about herself to the audience. Fortunately, as soon as she gets comfortable, Pop clarifies to the audience what's going on and reassures them that everything is okay. She has her fans light up a pathway with their glow sticks to form an emergency exit just in case, and she begins to perform for them until the main event is ready to begin.[5]

The power comes back on, and the FeatherHATS finally begin their actual show. They sing their remix of the Marukane Department Store jingle, enchanting the audience with their performance. Once the song is over, they are greeted with loud applause and cheers from the audience, who even chant for an encore.[6]
