Summary[]

Deku and Tomura's fight continues.

Deku and Tomura's fight continues.

With his new form, Deku Overlay, Deku is able to reinforce and puppet his body with Blackwhip to deal with the immobility brought on by Gearshift's recoil. Thanks to the boy's creativity and longtime appreciation of Quirks, the wielders of One For All are able to commence with their final solution for taking down Tomura: transfer their Quirk directly into the Villain's body and attack his psyche from the inside.

With Kudo being the test monkey for whether their plan will work or not, the soldier moved himself down into Deku's clawed hand, as the boy prepares to strike Tomura with the full force of Gearshift's Quirk Factor once their bodies connect, using Deku's blood and Tomura's wounds as the genetic medium of transfer. However, Tomura's Super Regeneration means that the window of opportunity to do so is agonizingly slim, so the transfer would have to be done at the moment of impact to achieve any modicum of success.

Tomura instinctively cuts his own arm off during Deku's transformation.

Tomura instinctively cuts his own arm off during Deku's transformation.

On the Villain's side, Tomura is well aware of how dangerous Deku is to him in his new form, which is why he sliced off his own arm to dodge the incoming Blackwhip, and knows that his opponent is planning something big. Regardless, it's still another obstacle for him to destroy along with the rest of their shared country, so the Villain charges forward as Deku does the same to resume their fight.

Deku lets out a giant cloud of Smokescreen, but En is confused since Tomura can once again pick out his location with Search. This time, Tomura doesn't try to go for the boy, as he heads straight to the ground to use Decay and take advantage of the Hero's desire to protect his surroundings. Deku, once again, gets the upper hand and throws a giant chunk of the earth in the air with a bunch of Blackchains to stop Decay's potential spread, which the Hero prepped for earlier by digging it out underneath him with the same attack when he collapsed earlier in the fight.

As Tomura flies back up, Danger Sense goes off, so he activates Search and senses a glowing light right behind him. He grabs the source, only to snatch Gran Torino's cape with no one attached to it, like the decoys Deku used during his fight with Lady Nagant. As the tattered cape crumbles to dust, it reveals a Blackwhip tendril carrying a collection of Deku's blood with Kudo's vestige tucked inside of it. Tomura then realizes that Search was zeroing in on Kudo's vestige instead of the boy, and just as the Villain tries to chase after the appendage, Deku makes his move. He pops off from the side of the tendril and readies his fist for the incoming Tomura.

Thanks to Search only working on targets the user is able to see, and Tomura now being able to see the vestiges, Deku was able to use Kudo to draw Search's attention away from his body, allowing the student to conceal his presence and swoop in to get a clean shot. Tomura's body begins to mutate once more on instinct to repel the incoming attack, as more fingers begin to grow around and cocoon his body much like his previous Absolute Defense form.

Deku forces Gearshift into Tomura's leaden mass.

Deku forces Gearshift into Tomura's leaden mass.

The man tries to the blast the boy with an Air Cannon, but it's too late as Deku slams Tomura straight in the chest with his fist, and Kudo successfully transfers himself and Gearshift into the Villain's body. While the parting's tough, Kudo accepts his fate, as he believes he's always been a ghost from the start. With his last act of defiance against the Villain, Kudo slams right into Tomura's core, destroying himself and Gearshift in the process in exchange for intense amounts of damage.

Something else was also given to the combatants in the midst of that blow, as Deku and Tomura turn their heads to see two massive projections of Himiko and Dabi, specifically on the day the two first met Tomura and joined the League of Villains. Deku then hears something speaking on his left and turns to see Shoto in the middle of the Sports Festival Stadium, when his friend accepted the fire half of his Quirk during the climax of their battle. Deku, then turns back around to see Spinner, once again playing out the moment when the heteromorph first met his future boss and explained his admiration for Stain.

Deku and Tomura's memories begin intertwining.

Yoichi informs Deku that thanks to the transfer, his and Tomura's memories are now mixing together. En jumps in and tells Deku to keep his guard up, as even though Kudo's plan worked and dealt a massive blow to Tomura, it's not enough to put the Villain down.

Deku dives back towards Tomura, as the two's minds move through a tunnel of their mismatched memories, and the rest of the Vestiges move towards the boy's fist in preparation to get transferred into his adversary. Despite Tomura growing and sending a wave of fingers towards Deku, the Hero carves through them all and once again lands a direct hit on the Villain's chest. However, this time, Tomura's core rejects the transfer and sends Deku flying back.

Deku continues smashing through Tomura's fingers.

Deku continues smashing through Tomura's fingers.

Daigoro tells Deku that since All For One can now forcefully steal One For All, it's not too surprising that rejecting the automatic transfer of the latter Quirk is possible at this point. That last hit wasn't in vain, as En and his Smokescreen were just barely able to make it, inflicting more damage on Tomura and forcing the Villain to increase his generation of extra fingers to build up his defenses. Deku wishes things could be easier and he could just transfer One For All through the extra fingers Tomura's grows, but biologically they don't seem to be directly connected to the Villain's own living flesh, which is why the transfer only happened when he got struck in the chest.

Once more, Deku turns to see another construct of Tomura's past: him as a boy, before Decay manifested, being walked somewhere by an older gentleman. The Hero realizes his efforts in trying to reach out to the memories Tomura buried weren't in vain after all and promises to keep pushing towards that as many times as he needs to.

Eri, Kota, and the other evacuees watch with concern over Deku's wellbeing.

Eri, Kota, and the other evacuees watch with concern over Deku's wellbeing.

Thanks to the drones Mei made, she along with La Brava were able to eventually continue the livestream of Deku and Tomura's fight near Mt. Fuji, just as the U.A. Coffin in the Sky makes it to the shoreline. Cementoss then stabilizes the structure from the beach using slides made out of Cement, as everyone begins to slide down to safety. When the video gets back online, the viewers look on in horror at the massive tumor of fingers Tomura wrapped himself around with. Among those watching at Shiketsu High School, Eri begins to tear up, and tries to leave the shelter before Ectoplasm stops her. Although it's way too far for anyone here to realistically do anything, Eri wants to help the boy in any way she can.

The girl still can't accept the circumstances, but Ectoplasm says there isn't much she can do even if she would somehow make it to the battlefield, as she hasn't stored up enough energy to use Rewind. This was already made apparent to Eri when she saw Eraser Head in the hospital after the Paranormal Liberation War, who passed off his injuries to her as him "getting hit by a garbage truck". Ectoplasm says all they can do now is have faith in Deku, as they watch the boy continue to face Tomura alone. Eri then tears up and remembers the time she told Deku and his friends about a dream she wants to work towards, with the boy telling her that hearing that makes him wants to try even harder. Kota then walks up and holds Eri's hand to try and comfort her, and says seeing the student pushing himself so hard, makes him want to try and take action too.

Chargebolt fears that being worried means he doesn't have faith in Deku.

Back at the beach, an exhausted Creati and Chargebolt walk to safety as they watch their classmate fighting on the girl's phone. Despite knowing that his friend is the strongest person on Earth right now, Chargebolt can't help but be worried about the outcome and begins to break down and question if what he's feeling means that he has no faith in Deku's efforts. At the same time, Uravity, Pixie-Bob, and a few other critically injured Heroes get lifted by one of the news helicopters to receive medical treatment, with Froppy, Tsukuyomi, Hawks, and a few others being left to be tended to by the U.A. Robots. Hawks then remembers the girl's big speech to advocate for Deku coming back to U.A., as the man thinks about the things that can be accomplished if everyone cared about each other just a little more.

Back near Central Hospital, Lady Nagant expresses similar sentiments to Rock Lock and admires the boy's ability to wrench open the hearts of people like her, instead of just punishing them for their crimes. The woman knows he's trying to do the same with Tomura, and says Deku has a look on his face that makes it impossible for people not to root for him.

Deku delivers one final punch into Tomura.

Deku delivers one final punch into Tomura.

Just as the fighting appears to stretch on for another eternity, Tomura starts to see flashbacks of his father yelling at him to stop just before his son killed him. The Villain yells at Deku to stay away while flooding more fingers at the student, but his opponent smashes them to chunks and closes in. With one final strike, Deku punches through the organic armor and lands a clean hit on Tomura's body, once again trying to send the rest of One For All into the Villain.

The vestiges succeed in crumbling Tomura's mental core to bits, but someone is still repelled in the end: Nana. The woman knows it's not because of Tomura's hatred for his family, including his own deceased grandmother, but her own weakness that interrupted it.

Izuku finds himself in front of a strange house.

As Tomura's body begins to break apart, Izuku then finds himself inside the white void making up the Villain's consciousness, while sporting the appearing of himself during his early days at U.A. The only thing of note to see is Tomura's family home, the binding source of the man's trauma, which Izuku lands on the front lawn of. The Hero tries to ring the doorbell, but he's interrupted by a voice asking him what he plans to do upon uncovering what's inside the house. Izuku looks at the opposite end of the pathway and finds a shadowy, haunting projection of his appearance after the first war, with Tomura's voice echoing out of it. The boy figures out that this is how the Villain views him on the inside.

Izuku admits to the "mirror" that he doesn't know, but he doesn't want this to end without him uncovering the truth. Before he can move, Izuku is almost hit by a truck coming out of nowhere in the void, with the vehicle shredding part of his backpack as he notes that even in an abstract world, his body can still be affected physically.

Izuku is confronted by a villainous amalgamation of Tomura's past obstacles.

Nana's Vestige then forms, telling the boy that his mind has now taken a solid form of its own here. The woman apologizes for getting sent back, but Izuku has no grievances, as he's glad to still have her by his side at the moment. After smiling at his expressed gratitude, Nana tells Izuku that this space is essentially her grandson's origin, so everything inside it is very fragile and delicate, including the past version of their opponent.

Nana tells Izuku to make contact with the moment representing Tomura's origin and strike it, as the Hero makes a beeline for the front door. From above, a projection of Stain, plucked straight from his own meeting with the League of Villains, dives down and pins Izuku to the path, slicing his right shoulder. Stain's head then morphs into Re-Destro's, who asks Izuku what he's going to make out of the burden he's bearing. From his own face, Overhaul phases through and asks Izuku if he has a plan.

Izuku once again says no and wafts them away, as he gets up and opens the door. The boy falls through a black void with a giant version of the family photo featuring Nana and Kotaro, as a colossal projection of Hana behind them replays what she told her brother the moment she revealed it to him, and woman begins to tear up.

Izuku and Nana then move into the void, before they make it to the backyard, displaying the evening just before Tomura awakened his Quirk. The two see Kotaro smacking a child-sized void to the ground as Mon growls at the man defensively. Nana then loses her breath upon seeing her son, as Izuku realizes that the void the man beat into the grass is a young Tomura, when was he still just the helpless Tenko Shimura back then.

Anime & Manga Differences[]

  • The anime cuts the event summary at the beginning.
  • When Deku recalls All Might saying that One For All can be transferred by force, the anime excludes the hypothetical of a middle schooler All Might getting chocolates forced onto him by an admirer.
  • The anime adds more detail to Tomura regenerating his severed arm.
  • When Daigoro figures out that Deku carved out the ground with Blackchain, the anime adds a closeup of the chains digging into the earth.
  • When Deku and Tomura start seeing the memory featuring Dabi and Himiko, the anime shows them materializing like a projection as they're speaking.
  • The evacuation scene with Cementoss is extended in the anime, and features a few differences:
    • In the anime, Cementoss stabilizes the Coffin in the Sky after it starts making it to shore instead of before. Additionally, all the evacuation slides are made at this moment, instead of just one.
    • The anime shows the civilians and Heroes sliding out of the Coffin in the Sky, with Cementoss guiding them beforehand.
    • In the anime, Futo checks the video feed after he makes it on the ground, instead of while he's still on the Coffin in the Sky.
  • When Deku makes his first attempt to transfer the remainder of One For All, the anime doesn't show Tomura slicing his torso as he does so.
  • The anime extends the live feed footage of Deku fighting Tomura.
  • After one of Tomura's fingers struck Deku on his right cheek, the anime shows that Deku's right-side freckles are still visible but not completely torn off/disappeared.
  • The anime slightly changed the order of events in the manga, showing Nana getting rejected by Tomura first before showing Deku entering his Vestige world.
  • The anime depicts Mon growling at Kotaro. In the manga, Mon is barking at Kotaro.
