What a Man Takes with Him (男がその手に取るものは Otoko ga Sono Te ni toru Mono wa?) is the thirteenth episode of the My Hero Academia: Vigilantes anime, and the final episode of the first season.
Summary[]

Kazuho is ecstatic about Narufest.
In the Penthouse, Koichi is getting started on some laundry, while Kazuho excitedly rewatches the recording of the FeatherHATS's performance at Narufest, and reading the fan mail she received as a result of her work.
Her teammate notes that Ichimoku and Jube sent two of the letters and that it feels a little excessive since the middle schoolers message her all the time, but the girl thinks physical letters feel more authentic to her. As Kazuho happily Leaps around while rewatching the concert video, she quickly tires herself out as Koichi smiles at her humorous behavior once more.

A new mantis Instant Villain wreaks havoc.
Later on, a large, praying mantis-like Villain is wreaking havoc in town, and is quickly intercepted by The Crawler. However, the Vigilante immediately slides away as the Villain turns his rampaging onto him, with the college student yelling for Pop☆Step to call for a Hero. Pop was ahead of him on the aid call and looks up to a sky to see Captain Celebrity flying in to introduce himself and knock down the criminal in one blow.
The Crawler thanks the Hero for bailing him out again, and Captain Celebrity thanks him back for his help in aiding Heroes to keep watch over their community and keeping trouble out of it. He then slumps his arm around The Crawler and asks him to meet in private to discuss how they both approach heroics, which the young man goes along with.

C.C. talks with Koichi in his Penthouse.
Back at the Penthouse, Christopher flatly says he doesn't like the way Koichi does things, since his main method in dealing with Villains he's outclassed by is just baiting and luring them away. The student understands where he's coming from but says not every person has the raw strength and combat capabilities like Christopher does, so they make up for it by finding other ways to help out as best they can before the Heroes can swoop in to help. Christopher agrees with this stance, but only for the sake of him not having more work piled up for him.
Kazuho then pops out from her changing curtain and asks Christopher to make another appearance for the next installment of Narufest, but the man declines on account of the scheduling problems and it being unpaid work, though the girl says no one at FeatherHATS is getting paid for their contributions either. Koichi suggests asking Makoto to arrange that since she's Christopher's manager, but the Hero complains again for the two "wannabe Heroes" not respecting Pro Hero work.

C.C. kicked by Kazuho.
He then whines about Makoto working him to the bone and the Naruhata Vigilantes throwing off his scheduling, and delegates the few minutes he's spending in the Penthouse as the closest thing he's had to a work break in forever. Koichi then gets a call from Makoto, asking where her boss is. Christopher begs him to keep quiet, but Koichi rats him out as the woman bursts through the door less than a second later.
Christopher makes a failed attempt to flee behind Kazuho's changing curtain, earning an enraged kick in the face and a threat to sue him, to which he begs her not to. Passing off his getaway from work as Koichi not wanting him to leave, the man has no choice but to fly off with Makoto to once again tackle his arduous schedule.

Koichi ponders the idea of carrying a weapon.
As she brushes her hair, Kazuho takes Captain Celebrity's suggestions to heart when it comes to their and everyone else's safety. Koichi says all the Instant Villains they've been facing lately have become too dangerous to deal with on their own, with some being more aggressive or never reverting back to their original forms, so taking the safe route doesn't feel possible to him. Kazuho asks her friend if there's an upsurge in Villain activity around Naruhata, but Koichi can't tell, especially since Knuckleduster isn't around to offer his take on the matter.
Due to the heightened risk, Koichi ponders the idea of carrying a weapon around. The girl recalls her teammate fantasizing about using a katana after meeting Stendhal and tells Koichi that mixing in weaponry with his Vigilante duties might not end well for him. She reminds him that no one is forcing him to fight Villains directly and recommends that he sticks to what he's good at in how he helps Heroes and the people around him.

Naomasa calls Eraser Head and Midnight for a meeting.
Later that night, Eraser Head and Midnight meet up with Naomasa to discuss the detective's investigation on a proposed new type of Villain, which he considers a more extreme version of the recent Instant Villains. The man brings up the incident with Teruo during the first Narufest, noting his semi-permanent mutations in appearance and his enhanced abilities, which made the man borderline unrecognizable and doesn't correlate to rapid, temporary Quirk changes found by using Trigger. However, his tests came back positive for massive amount of the drug in his bloodstream, which would've killed him via overdose under normal circumstances.
Eraser Head theorizes that whoever is responsible for Teruo's mutation is using massive amounts of Trigger to fuel it, but Naomasa and his team believes it's the reverse, in that someone is modifying people like their suspect to handle massive amounts of the drug without any devastating effects. Midnight chimes in and says it's likely being orchestrated by some kind of criminal organization, though Eraser Head wonders what they might be after, since Instant Villain attacks are so random and uncoordinated, and the supposed newer types can't even conceal their transformations anymore. The man feels that while these types of Villains are likely expensive to produce, it's all in the name of priming and small sacrifices for a much bigger goal down the line.

A commercial filming featuring Ingenium and Captain Celebrity.
The next day, Pop is once again leading Narufest, and closes out the morning block with a community music showcasing, which starts off with a performance of "Can't Help Loving You" by the Sisters of Saint Lila's Academy. Meanwhile, Ingenium and Captain Celebrity are shooting a commercial signaling the completed reconstruction for the Naruhata section of Capital Central Loop Highway.
As they wrap up filming, Captain Celebrity stops the staff and asks for another retake, as his hair was flapping in the wind and blocking his face for a few frames. While the crew complains about the hassle it might be for Ingenium, the other Hero doesn't mind a reshoot, and Makoto thanks the man for dealing with her superior's fussiness. Captain Celebrity praises him for being a lifesaver, and as he says that, the Scarred Man discreetly walks on set, while quietly "agreeing" with him.

The Crawler acting as the "special guest Hero" at Narufest.
Back at the department store, Miu is telling the Sisters during intermission to not treat Narufest like a simple talent show, since there might be Heroes watching them in the crowd. After the briefing, she then freaks out upon Pop telling her that Captain Celebrity is too busy with his commercial shoot to drop by for a visit, meaning that she just lied to a bunch of little girls back there. One of the Sisters then asks Miu what Hero will show up, which makes Miu double down and say it's a surprise that she can't tell the other girl. Koichi then walks and greets everyone, which gives Miu an idea that Pop desperately pleas for her to not go through with it.
The two idols go through with their "fix" to the situation: present "The Crawler" as the special guest Hero. With no stage training or a plan due to being put on the spot, The Crawler decides to try and sing a song, with his pick being the same one the Sisters just sang. While Miu and Yu are growling over The Crawler's less-than-dazzling work on stage, the Sisters voice some appreciation for the young man's efforts but still wonder when an actual Pro Hero is gonna show up.

The villain crashes the set.
As Ingenium and Captain Celebrity prepare themselves for another take on the commercial, the Scarred Man makes a selection on a phone application. A truck with an open hatch door on its trailer then crashes onto the set, and the Bat Villain Ingenium previously dealt with, now with blackened skin and more pronounced bat-like features, flies out onto the highway.
Captain Celebrity catches the flying equipment, and the team notifies Ingenium that there's a Villain coming up behind him. The Hero recognizes the Villain and jumps high to reach for a grab, but the speeder swiftly knocks him down with the hope that the resulting fall kills him. He then flies off to get his revenge on The Crawler and Knuckleduster for thwarting him before.

Return of the Bat Villain.
Ingenium uses his Engines to slow his descent and tells a flying Captain Celebrity to go after the Villain in his place. Unfortunately, the Hero is outmatched in flight speed and can't do anything besides maintaining pursuit. As Captain Celebrity argues on his communicator with his support staff and Makoto about being helped by local Heroes, the Villain hears The Crawler singing from a great distance away and zeroes in on the department store.
He quickly swoops down and crashes the event, flying off with The Crawler clutched in his clawed feet. However, dropping his speed to get his revenge costs him in the end, as Captain Celebrity quickly catches up and knocks out the evildoer, and saves the Vigilante from a nasty fall. After commenting that he's understood Koichi's true purpose as the "bait", the Hero then flies down to greet the civilians, saving the day, the event, and giving the crowd their long-awaited visit from an actual licensed Hero.

Koichi washes his Master's brass knuckles.
On another day at the Penthouse, Koichi notices Knuckleduster's brass knuckles and mask on his nightstand while he's vacuuming. He asks Kazuho if he forgot them, with the girl saying he was probably in a rush to go to work and left them here by mistake, though she still has her doubts that him having a normal job is actually true. Neither can think of a solid reason why he would dump his gear in the Penthouse then presumably go to work, so Koichi assumes that Knuckleduster discreetly wants him to clean his stuff. As Koichi gets to work in washing off the equipment, he thinks back to a recent encounter the trio had with the Three Sturm und Drang Brothers.
After they defeated the brothers once again and checked their tongues, the young man notes how nearly all the Trigger-related incidents have seemingly stopped overnight. Knuckleduster then quickly dipped into an alley as Pop phoned the police and declined The Crawler's invitation to the Penthouse due to his schedule being booked somewhere else. He then asked his teammates to take care of things here, with his protege promising that they'll handle things from here. Knuckleduster then says to himself he knows Koichi will, as he walked off.

Knuckleduster retires.
Back in the present, Makoto stops by the Penthouse to deliver some more fan mail to Kazuho, along with some performance photos. As the girls gush over the new waves of attention Pop☆Step is getting, Koichi returns to scrubbing out his master's brass knuckles, relieved that his friend is getting along with his upperclassmen much better nowadays.
At the Naruhata Disaster Medical Center, Soga is watching over a hospitalized Tamao, and the girl wakes up as the street thug readjusts her bed sheets and slipped arm. The high schooler then questions who he is, and says that he doesn't look friendly, she can't feel her left hand, and her head hurts. She then asks Soga where her dad is, who walks in just as she voices her worry. Knuckleduster thanks Soga for watching over his daughter and promises to be in touch, as the other man walks out of the room without saying a word. The man offers her something to eat, saying that she likely can't feel much due to all the painkillers administered to her.

"I am here."
Tamao says her head hurts again, so her father settles on asking her to get some rest. The girl then wondering where her mother is, and the man says unfortunately, her timing couldn't be worse. While sparing the shocking details, Knuckleduster says his wife ended up passing away shortly after Tamao was administered, but not before her husband rushed over and told her that their daughter was safe, and the man believes it made all the effort he spent in saving her worth it. Tamao doesn't understand what her father is implying, but the man says it's not his little girl's time to see her mother yet. He then tells her things will be okay, because he's here.
The next day, Kazuho brings Koichi a giant corkboard to hang up inside to the Penthouse, so she can put up her recent concert pics and fan letters. The student then begins adding his own things like a small sack containing Knuckleduster's gear and the recycling schedule, which starts getting on his teammate's nerves. Makoto then comes in to ask if Knuckleduster's around, but he tells her his master is still missing, and the two girls begin hanging out as Koichi adds more photos and memorabilia featuring his teammates and friends to the corkboard.

Koichi and Kazuho hang up a corkboard to make more memories.
Despite how much things have changed in his life since Knuckleduster saved him in that alley, Koichi would be surprised to realize that the time he ended up spending with the crazed Vigilante was only a few months at best. Eventually, The Crawler would have to fly solo to keep people safe, but despite that, he always felt like a part of his teacher was always with him. At the time, he wouldn't know just how hectic his life would become for him and his allies, as one season comes to a close and another opens up.

Anime & Manga Differences[]
- Most of Chapter 27 is omitted from the anime.
- This includes Pop wanting to show Knuckleduster her Narufest pictures, and the encounters with the Three Sturm und Drang Brothers, the Swan pervert, and the groper villain. The aftermath with the Brothers is only shown as a flashback.
- The anime rearranges the order in which the events are shown, so Knuckleduster is shown officially leaving the Naruhata Vigilantes in a flashback after the second Narufest.
- Due to this, when Makoto gives Pop fan letters about how they should put on more Narufests, they have already put on another one by this point.
- Koichi passes and is chastised by Jube and Ichimoku while being chased by Kirihito in the manga, but they are absent in the anime.
- Pop also promotes the next Narufest shortly before Captain Celebrity arrives in the manga.
- The Bat Villain is shown earlier chained up before he is unleashed in the manga, while the anime includes more shots of Number 6 scheming, with the Bat Villain first appearing after he's released.
- In the manga, Eraser Head, Midnight, and Naomasa meet up to discuss the Next-Level Villains during the second Narufest, while in the anime they meet up in a private office.
- As a result, all of their relevant interactions to them being at Narufest are gone, including reacting to the crowd, seeing Teruo's current state in person, Naomasa's near miss with Koichi, and reacting to the Bat Villain's attack.
- Midnight is also not wearing her civilian get-up and instead wears formal clothes with her hair done up.
- In the manga, Jube, Ichimoku, and Teruo, are among the attendees at the Narufest, while they are absent in the anime.
- Mrs. Oguro's death is further emphasized in the anime, showing her smiling upon hearing Tamao is safe right before passing away.
Trivia[]
- In the English dub, Koichi hums the chorus of the opening theme while he vacuums the Penthouse.
