Summary[]

Marriage arrangement between Enji and Rei

Enji enters a Quirk Marriage with Rei.

Enji and Rei's Quirk Marriage came from his desire to raise a perfect child to surpass All Might, as well the Himura Family, specifically Rei's father's, desire to regain their former glory by marrying off their daughter to the No. 2 Hero. While she had the right to refuse, Rei went along for the sake of her family, and while the marriage was strictly business-oriented, Enji did take notice of what type of person his wife was: someone who's strong yet could melt easily at the slightest upset.

Years later, Enji abruptly stops training his first son, Toya, for his goal after a trip to the doctor. While the boy inherited a much stronger version of his father's flames, he received his mother's resistance to cold temperatures, meaning prolonged usage of his Quirk would cause burns all over his skin instead of a natural tolerance to intense heat.

Enji concerned at Toya's stubbornness

Enji concerned at Toya's stubbornness to continue training.

Toya, due to picking up his father's stubbornness, refused to accept it, despite Enji's demands, and both his mother and sister's concern for his health and behavior. Soon he would begin training his Quirk in private on Sekoto Peak to try and win his father's attention back, which only exacerbated after Enji had two more children to replace Toya for his dream: Natsuo, who was deemed another failure, and later Shoto, who's hybridization of his and Rei's Quirks was exactly what he wanted.

After Toya is caught and scolded by his father for once again training his Quirk instead of quitting the idea of being a Hero to gravitate towards other things, he has a psychotic breakdown over his dad trying to reject what he was born and raised to do, before attempting to assault his youngest brother. From that day forward, Shoto was kept isolated from his brothers and sister, and Endeavor ordered his wife to constantly watch Toya so he wouldn't try and harm his perfect creation again.

Toya discovers his Quirk's new abilities

Toya manages to evolve his Quirk.

Despite the rest of the family's attempts to connect with Toya and try and break him from his self-destructive mindset, his behavior only worsened to the point he ended up resenting the rest of his family. Meanwhile, his training's progressed to where he underwent a delayed puberty, and the color of his fire turned from orange to blue.

Once again, he tries to show his dad, who ends up beating and yelling at Rei in front of the other children for her not keeping an eye on her son like he demanded. This would fully cement Rei's mental instability, which later results in her giving Shoto his burn scar and an admittance to a mental institution for it.

Toya loses control of his Quirk

Toya loses control of his Quirk and burns alive.

Sometime later, Toya is crying by himself at Sekoto Peak, as his father never showed after the boy asked him to meet him there. His sadness overwhelms him and causes the boy to light himself and the surrounding forest on fire, which he can't extinguish, as his dad only trained him to raise the intensity of his heat and not put it out. This ends up setting the entire area ablaze, with Enji suddenly arriving in the midst of Toya presumably burning himself to death.

After Toya's supposed demise, Enji's obsession towards Shoto's purpose grew worse and he fully sunk himself into Hero work and nothing else. In the present, when asked about his absence that day by Rei, he says he didn't go because he wouldn't know what to say to his son if he did; his wife shares the same sentiment.

Enji and Rei reflecting on the former's behaviour over Shoto

Enji reflects on his obsession with Shoto after Toya's apparent death.

Despite Enji being the main cause of his family's ruined state, the others take some personal blame in not properly getting through to Toya before he ended up becoming Dabi, and with that, they decided to help their father in his conflict against fighting their family member turned Villain.

Rei further emphasizes her resolve by pointing out how Shoto, despite being treated worse by his father, was able to break out of his abusive mindset, and later on, make friends in school, reconnect with his family, and effectively become its savior. Shoto then steps up and asks his father to accept his and the rest of the family's assistance in stopping Dabi.

Hawks and Best Jeanist surprised at Rei's apology

Rei apologizes to Hawks and Best Jeanist.

Hawks and Best Jeanist, who were eavesdropping to try and gather more information on Dabi, then walk in and suggest joining in on their fight. Before they can continue, to their surprise Rei gets on her knees and apologizes to Hawks for how badly Dabi had burned him, but he anxiously assures her and says there's no need to apologize, while being helped up by Best Jeanist.

After hearing the revelation on Endeavor's past, Hawks asks Shoto if his father was responsible for his distinctive scar on the face, but Rei immediately jumps in to take the blame for it, surprising Shoto, but despite what she did, he continued to call her mother. This makes Hawks reflect on how he abandoned his parents, unlike Shoto, and calls him a class act.

Hawks proposes that the top three heroes team up

Hawks proposes to Endeavor to team up with him and Best Jeanist.

Hawks proceeds to inform Endeavor of the chaos occurring in society. Although the situation outside is devastating, with the remaining members of the Paranormal Liberation Front scattered across Japan, several Villains running wild, Pro Heroes quitting left and right, zero access to foreign aid, and the Near High-End Nomu wreaking havoc, Hawks believes the burden of it all shouldn't be solely placed on the No. 1 Hero, or his family. Plus, regardless of if what Dabi leaked to the public turns out to be true or not, he still wants to support people who are actively trying to do the right thing. Endeavor, despite his continued reservations, finally agrees to stand up and fight.

With that, Hawks forms a team between himself, Best Jeanist, and Endeavor, and explains his proposal on how to approach all these matters going forward. They first want to start off with a press conference to address Dabi's allegations, but before that can be setup, Hawks wants to know what this "One For All" thing he heard from Endeavor during the war is all about, as the info spread to the public and caused further questioning by civilians.

Katsuki is carried off by his classmates

Katsuki causes a ruckus.

After Endeavor remembers the message he sent back then, along with Izuku telling him during the conflict that Tomura was hunting him down, the man believes he has some idea of where to look into that. Hawks and Best Jeanist moves out to try and question Izuku about One For All. Along the way they crosses paths with Katsuki, who was taking away by his classmates as he yells at Izuku to wake up. Best Jeanist greets Katsuki, relieved that he is lively as ever despite his injuries.

Hawks and Best Jeanist prepare to enter Izuku's room, but their pursuit has to wait, as Tenya explains to them Izuku is currently unconscious in the hospital, with All Might watching over him, feeling the boy communicating with the other users of the Quirk inside his headspace.
