Danger Sense (
Description[]
Hikage easily dodging Daigoro's attacks thanks to his Quirk.
Danger Sense allows the user to detect any potential threats in the surrounding area, thus giving the user the opportunity to properly react to them quickly, essentially granting them a sixth sense. The detection of a threat is described by Izuku as a sharp stabbing sensation in his head, visualized as a lighting bolt striking down.[3]
Izuku and Hikage's manifestations of Danger Sense depicts the lightning bolt as yellow,[1] whereas Tomura's instead depicts the lightning bolt as red.[4]
The Quirk is able to sense one's intent and their negative emotions.[5] Against human enemies, Danger Sense is triggered by their intentions of threat and/or malice.[6]
It can also evaluate the threat level of different individuals — for instance, it did not react towards Giulio Gandini, despite him then pointing a gun at Izuku, indicating that he had no true intention of harming him. On the other hand, the Quirk went into overdrive upon sensing the presence of Dark Might, informing Izuku that he was the greatest threat among the Gollini Family mafia.[7]
Weaknesses[]
According to Izuku, Danger Sense initially took a large toll on the user's body depending on the threat it senses,[1] although this may be a result of the Quirk being strengthened by One For All. This drawback also appeared to not adversely affect Izuku anymore, implying that it can be made mild through training.
Sufficiently fast attacks or objects travelling at high speeds can also prevent the user from being able to properly dodge them, as Deku was heavily injured by Lady Nagant's bullet despite using Danger Sense.[8]
Danger Sense is ineffective against enemies who lack any genuine hostility.
If the user is in no actual danger, such as if their opponents have no true malice and are just trying to help, then the Quirk won't be triggered.[9] This seems to extend to even those who are perceived as a threat by the user, as shown when Himiko Toga was able to catch Izuku off guard without being detected by the Quirk.[10] This is because she attacked him out of "affection" rather than outright malice.[11] The Quirk passively responds to negative emotions, such as hatred, anger, or anxiety, and if the user is in a crowd that exudes much negativity, it causes the Quirk to be overstimulated, which can overwhelm the user.[5]
Danger Sense can also be triggered to misdirect the user by an opponent who is aware of how the Quirk operates, as seen when Izuku used Blackchain to distract Tomura, who now possessed the Quirk, before launching a concealed sneak attack with help from Smokescreen.[12]
Danger Sense is also weakened towards individuals who are not perceived as threats to the user, such as the case with "All For One" during the final battle when an army of Heroes converge to defeat him.[13] At first, the Quirk was only extremely sensitive to Izuku because of the amount of danger he posed to him, to the point where it perceived the other Heroes as weaker threats, with "All For One" obscuring the Quirk's warnings. However, if these weaker threats converge together, they will overwhelm Danger Sense, causing "All For One" massive confusion, to the point where he couldn't identify which individuals are threats.[14]

Usage[]
Hikage Shinomori[]
It is likely that Hikage used this Quirk in conjunction with One For All, though his fighting style with Danger Sense is unknown. While Izuku is in a coma, where he meets the predecessors of One For All, Hikage briefly demonstrates Danger Sense by dodging Daigoro Banjo's Blackwhips.[15]
Izuku Midoriya[]
Blinded by rage, Deku is unaware that Hikage's Quirk has manifested.
During the Paranormal Liberation War, after Katsuki Bakugo was injured by Tomura's Rivet Stab, Deku snaps, unintentionally manifesting the Quirk for the first time, although he would not be aware of it initially.[3] Later, Deku would feel Danger Sense again when Gigantomachia was about to free himself from Best Jeanist's wires, but he was still unaware of the feeling's origin.[16] Shortly after being momentarily knocked out by Dabi's Blueflame, Deku felt the sharp pain in his head again, finally understanding the reason for it. He remembers the notes All Might had gathered about the previous One For All users and realizes he's awakened this Quirk. However, due to the Quirk's sudden awakening and his lack of training with Danger Sense, Deku found it hard to stay conscious with the signals being sent to his brain, though he still forced himself to keep fighting.[1]
During his hunt for the League of Villains, Deku primarily uses this Quirk as a way to track down nearby criminals, sensing the sharp twinge in his head before heading off in the direction of the danger.[17] Deku uses Danger Sense more effectively in his rematch with Muscular, using the Quirk and his knowledge of their previous fight to better dodge his attacks.[18] Deku uses this Quirk again when attempting to flee from Lady Nagant's bullets, but even with the aid of Danger Sense, he's unable to fully evade them and gets injured.[8] When a crowd of angry civilians protested letting Izuku back into U.A., their hatred, anxiety, and anger caused his Quirk to be overstimulated.[5]
During his final battle with Tomura, Deku uses the Quirk to evade his attacks as he battles him at close range.[19]
Tomura Shigaraki[]
After stealing Deku's Danger Sense, Tomura can easily dodge his attacks.
During Tomura's fight with Deku, the Villain manages to catch the young hero off-guard and nearly grab his face, but Deku slashes off his fingers before anything happens. However, that single touch enabled him to steal Danger Sense from Deku along with Hikage's Vestige.[2] Afterwards, he uses it to dodge all of Deku's Blackchain attacks.[20]
Fortunately, due to Deku's much greater experience with wielding Danger Sense, he knows the risks of overly relying on it and how to counter it. While applying Transmission's Low Gear to slow down his Smokescreen and conceal himself, Deku kept Tomura's Danger Sense constantly active by summoning Blackchains, allowing him to unleash a sneak attack without being detected.[12]
After "All For One" took control of Tomura's body, Danger Sense became hyper-sensitive for Deku, reacting so intensely that even the presence of other Heroes registered as minor threats, clouding its warnings.[21] Later, it was overwhelmed by the simultaneous threat posed by all the remaining Heroes attacking at once.[13]
Trivia[]
- Danger Sense is most likely a reference to the Marvel character Spider-Man's Spider-Sense, which is also used to sense incoming danger.
- The theft of Danger Sense by Tomura marks the only time a Quirk, in any form, has been stolen from a One For All user.
- Due to having been previously stolen by Tomura, Danger Sense was the only Quirk from One For All that wasn't destroyed during the final battle between Tomura and Izuku.
