Wrench It Open, Izuku Midoriya!! (こじ () ける! (みどり) () (いず) () !! Kojiakeru! Midoriya Izuku!!?) is the four hundred and sixteenth chapter of Kohei Horikoshi's My Hero Academia.

Summary[]

As Deku continues to aggressively pound away at Tomura's ever-growing mass of fingers, Eri attempts to run toward the doors upon seeing the battle being broadcast in the shelters. Ectoplasm stops her, with her insisting on going to help him, even despite him being hundreds of kilometers away, as Ectoplasm explains that all the fighting damaged the evacuation system, so it's unable to move anyway. He continues to say that he knows she hasn't replenished enough energy for her Rewind yet, so she wouldn't be able to do anything if she got there, revealing she already tried it on Eraser Head. He tells her that all they can do now is have faith in him.

Remembering herself telling Deku what her dream is, and him telling her that he wants to work extra hard now, she starts to tear up, when Kota arrives and grabs her hand. He tells her that Deku always bursts out crying, but calls himself a crybaby too, so when he sees him fighting so hard, he feels like he needs to take action as well. One of the civilians in the shelters looks on anxiously at the fight on the screen and remembers Deku's words back at U.A. about how they'll bring it all back together.

At the U.A. crash landing site, all the Heroes and students are being evacuated and taken to safety, including Phantom Thief on a stretcher. Creati is carrying Chargebolt as they watch the broadcast on their phones, realizing that Deku is in his dark form again. Chargebolt asks Creati about the trope in comics where the "side characters" keep saying to put their faith in the main character no matter what. He says that Deku is probably the strongest in the whole world right now, but wonders why he still doesn't feel like everything will be okay in the same way All Might inspired everyone, breaking down in tears wondering if being worried means he doesn't have faith in him.

In Gunga, the news copter arrives in the wasteland of Himiko's battle to take Uravity to safety, calling out on the comms about her current state, while the other copter responds back, in the wasteland of All For One's battle, to help the injured. Hawks overhears, realizing who they're talking about, and remembers back to her speech at U.A., thinking once again about his desire for everyone to be able to see each other united as one.

Deku sees the Shimura family home

As he punches Tomura, Deku witnesses a memory of the Shimura Family house.

At Central Hospital, Rock Lock is showing Lady Nagant the battle on a phone, and asks her why she is helping Deku. She explains he wrenched open her heart, and that he has a special way of doing things which there is nothing harder for a Villain to bear. Rock Lock continues that beating Villains is about making them lose the will to fight, which Nagant figures is what he is doing right now, that he is not out to merely punish evil like it is all so black-and-white, and that his dream is taking him down a thornier, more nuanced path; the look on his face when he is up against the wall and running himself ragged makes her want to risk it all to back him up. As everyone in the shelter continues to anxiously watch the fight, one person in the crowd lets out a faint "you can do it".

After he finally breaks through most of the fingers, Tomura screams out for Deku to stay away, as the memory of his father flashes through his mind. But just as Deku is about to land his next punch, suddenly he finds himself faced in front of the Shimura Family household, remembering Tomura's words about the "destruction of everything stemming from that house".

Author's Comment[]

I wanted to reread "ChimidoroK", so I looked through my old copies of Akamaru Jump—but that was the only issue I couldn’t find. Sadness.
