History's Maddest Hero ( () (じょう) (さい) (きょう) のヒーロー Shijō Saikyō no Hīrō?) is the four hundred and twelfth chapter of Kohei Horikoshi's My Hero Academia.

Summary[]

Due to focusing on defence inside his body, Deku starts to feel immobilized, so he uses Blackwhip to flex and extend his muscles manually from within, allowing him to build up Fa Jin and swing his arm, unleashing a massive Delaware Smash that decimates Tomura's surrounding area. The Villain laughs at his performance, realizing he predicted the range of his Decay and used the wind blast to blow away at the land, delaying the advance of the destruction. However, he only considers this a stopgap measure, twisting himself back around to keep touching it as many times as it takes.

Tomura then gets more Danger Sense warnings as he sees the Smokescreen hasn't dispersed yet, only to be surrounded by several Blackchains, realizing what is happening. Deku is able to catch Tomura off guard, blasting through the Smokescreen fast enough to punch his arm right off, and back out. He used Gearshift's Low Gear on Smokescreen to make it last longer, and unleashed the Blackwhips in order to keep his Danger Sense constantly going off, knowing the risks of relying too heavily on it.

En appears before him, realizing he's been doing all of this to build up Fa Jin, but also warns him that Tomura still has Search, allowing him to spot his location, and attack him with a deadly lightning blast. Tomura reminds him that he sees and knows all, his location and his weakness, knowing that he can no longer breathe, thanks to Gearshift's time being up and the recoil kicking in. Regenerating his arm, Tomura continues he knows Deku's charged-up attacks aren't meant for being rapid-fire either, aware that he's reinforcing his tendons and muscles from the inside since he can see the black coils showing right through his skin.

Deku will continue trying to rescue the child within Tomura

Deku vows to rescue the child held within Tomura.

Tomura then points out that if he hit him with one of his head-on attacks he might not be able to put himself back together, but knows he has too much he has to protect to do that, with Deku responding he's not giving up on that "crying boy". Tomura states that people interpret the world around them through narrow, limited windows, and when the world throws the inexplicable at them, they concoct rationalities to put themselves at ease, knowing that Deku's just cramming him into his narrow worldview. He tells Deku that just like he is able to see the One For All vestiges inside him, he is able to see deep inside himself, as within Tomura is a visage of crumbling buildings melded together. He declares that he overcame and buried the crying little kid a while back, that he's gone and his worldview has taken over; only "Tomura Shigaraki" is left and he's doing fine.

Kudo tells Izuku that it's time to part ways with One For All

"The time has come... to part ways with One For All."

Seeing his deadly smile, Nana tells Deku to give up, that there are some people just can't be saved, and that in the face of the ideals he carries as a hero, he represents an impenetrable wall he doesn't need to overcome. She yells that his only option is to kill him in a single blow to leave nothing behind, to accept it and unleash a strike mightier than before. But despite this, Deku still refuses, wondering why he can't let go of the sad, lonely past of his, and thinking back to Tomura's words about others sweeping all their pain under the rug, he states all he did was put a lid on it, and until he shatters that lid to pieces, he won't stop smashing away at it.

In the vestige realm, Kudo tells the other users that was why he opposed him, thinking his desire to save one's archenemy a delusional madness that will disrupt their destined path. He says it's arrogant thinking born of a naivety, however having observed from within, he knows the truth, that Deku clings to one driving notion; that anyone, whether the most vile among them or the Quirkless, each one of them as an innately human heart, which he wants to believe. Suddenly, a Star-crested hand points through the vestige realm, which All Might and Kudo both notice. Kudo then tells Deku that he has to do exactly as he says, betting everything on him, and that the time has come to part ways with One For All.

Chapter Notes[]
