Bound to a Fiery Fate (エン En?) is the three hundred and fiftieth chapter of Kohei Horikoshi's My Hero Academia.
Summary[]
At the police station, the Doctor asks if the big day has come, having noticed the few amount of guards remaining. He states to the lone officer that all to prepare for today, they had sought out the "twisted raw material" born into the world, warped seeds worthy of being vessels.
11 years ago at Sekoto Peak, Toya had continued to burn to a crisp, thinking about how he didn't want to die, and how he still hasn't shown his father anything. Toya frantically jumps into a lake to quell the flames. In the present, Kyudai reflects upon how he was born with cracks in him too, calling him "the boy born with everything", while in the past, Toya's body is recovered by All For One.
Toya wakes up to find himself alive in a nursery, with several accompanying children surprised to see him awake. Toya's further shocked to hear his voice changed, learning that he's been unresponsive for three years, causing him to feel more anxious. He tries to leave, but one of the overseers tells him he can't, since he lives with everyone else now, and they'll be his new family.
Toya says he has to go home to his father, thinking he was probably busy to see him and now must be worried, also knowing he did and said terrible things and needs to apologize to his family. However, a voice on a monitor tells him his hope is in vain. The voice states that in order to restore his burnt body, his missing pieces had to be replaced with regenerative tissue. He further explains he'll be unable to utilize the power he once had, with his organs damaged, body debilitated, and senses all dulled, unable to feel pain.
The voice continues they intended to welcome him back at his full strength, but that they failed, which causes a visceral reaction in Toya. The voice says that despite everything, they might be able to still restore his fire to its former glory, asking if he will allow him to raise him. However, Toya viciously denies him, saying he has no intention of being trained by anyone else.
In the present, Kyudai continues that he'd already been too molded by his upbringing for them to lead him astray, and even All For One was unable to exploit his obsession with his father. He further explains they had collected spares in case anything happened to Tomura, a seedbed of hatred, full of vessels for the Demon King, and Dabi was one of those spares, but he was a failed experiment.
The officer asks what he's talking about, inquiring if it's another example of All For One having everything planned from the beginning, but Kyudai says it's simply a warning, since that boy never bought what they were selling. They had let him go because his body shouldn't have lasted a month, and even they were surprised when Giran brought him back to them alive. He recalls his initial meeting with Hood, when Dabi asks the Doctor if it was him that kept him alive this long. Asking how he is still alive, Dabi further states that looking at the Nomu he has an idea of what he was planning to do with him, with Kyudai realizing that he'd kept his dying body alive through his pure unfiltered grudge.
Back in Kamino, Dabi explains to Shoto he did go back home, and even though his body was weaker and he didn't have anything to look forward to anymore, he wanted to see if anything changed. However, seeing his butsudan, and Endeavor's continued abuse toward Shoto, reminded him of his purpose as a failed creation, and his family had already left him behind.
He continues that he surpassed his limits, focused on honing his flames so he wouldn't be so weak the next time they met, even in spite of his body peeling away each time, with him not feeling a thing. Shoto realizes that he's been prepared to die from the start, with Dabi continuing through the hatred that grew from watching Endeavor the hero, Toya died, and Dabi was born.
Kyudai talks about how heat is energy born from all living things, and All For One, who wants to live forever, had no use for the mad heat rushing toward death; even the Demon Lord had to abandon the frenzied flame of death. As the completely crisped husk of Dabi screams that once he's burning everything "that thing" holds dear, that'll be his mark left on the world, Shoto prepares his Flashfire Fist, declaring it won't be on his watch.
